A Wonderful, Magical Vegan Witches’ Brew

nice_pi

So there we have it! A finished scarecrow!

Now we just need to bubble up a wonderful, magical vegan witches’ brew! First we’ll need a whole bunch of wood for the fire. We need to keep the cauldron bubbling and boiling because the brew can’t be allowed to go cold. If that happens, we’ll need to start over.

There’s plenty of wood outside the swamp. Check the ground between the swamp and the iron gate and you’ll be sure to find all the wood we need!

Objectives: Look between the swamp and the iron gate for wood to give to Pi.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Pick up wood around the outside of the swamp, then return to Pi.

nice_pi

Looks like you found plenty of wood. This’ll be enough for our brew with plenty left over to keep my swamp tea warm! Great work Rita.

Now we just need to find all the ingredients we need. I’ve found organic, locally-produced alternatives to original ingredients, so this’ll be just great!

Quest completed

______________

Instead of Goat Mucus

nice_pi

Instead of goat mucus, a classic ingredient in witches’ brews, we’re going to use completely standard swamp water. Okay, so maybe the brew won’t be quite the same perfect shade of puke-green as it would have been if we’d used goat mucus, but it’s just as powerful! I hope you agree that it’s a worthwhile sacrifice, Rita?

Good to hear. Now you’re no witch, but you may understand that many, less progressive witches would be green, well, greener around the gills if they heard this kind of new-fangled talk!

Here’s a bottle; fill it up with swamp water from the jetty down below my house.

Objectives: Fill the bottle with swamp water from the jetty beneath Pi’s house, then give her the bottle.

Use the bottle from your inventory in fill it up from the platform directly beneath Pi’s house, then return to her with the full bottle.

nice_pi

Well look at that, a bottle filled with swamp water. Nice work.

______________

Swamp Celery Does the Trick

nice_pi

I’ve been thinking about this for a long while. It was pretty hard, but in the end I arrived at the answer of just what could be used to replace bat wings. It’s tough to find good replacements from the plant kingdom, mainly for flavor’s sake, but I think I’ve found a solution. Swamp celery does the trick just as nicely!

Swamp celery is growing all over the place, so it won’t be hard to find some. Come back when you’ve found enough.

Objectives: Pick swamp celery from around the swamp and then head back to Pi.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Ride along the boardwalks in the swamp to pick enough swamp celery, then return to Pi.

nice_pi

Here you come with a load of swamp celery. Great!

Not quite as refined a flavor as bat wings, but it should give our witches’ brew a crisp and tangy aftertaste. Believe me, witches’ brew and aftertaste aren’t usually words that are found together in the same sentence!

Quest completed

______________

Black Toadstools

nice_pi

Newt legs. That’s all I’m saying. Newt legs.

This ingredient was a pretty tough nut to crack, Rita! Ten cups of swamp tea later though, I had an epiphany!

Black toadstools! How did nobody think of this before? Well, actually, it’s not so strange. Black toadstools have a tendency to, well, kill people. Heh.

The upside of this is that we won’t be drinking the brew, so it shouldn’t be a problem Just be careful when you’re picking them Rita, because black toadstools are Jorvik’s most poisonous mushroom. Won’t be a problem, right?

Good Rita. Just be careful. The closest place you’ll find black toadstools is up by the fallen gate on the Old King’s Road. It’s the road to the right when you come out of the swamp.

Good luck!

Objectives: Gather black toadstools by the fallen gate on the Old King’s Road, then return to Pi.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

As soon as you exit the swamp, turn right and run all the way to the top of the hill. Pick enough toadstools, then return to Pi.

nice_pi

You found some black toadstools! Great stuff.

Let me just take those off your hands… Carefully… You wouldn’t want to touch these with your bare skin, Rita, then things can go really very seriously wrong. Hehe!

Oh, umm… I didn’t say that to you earlier? Ah.

Erm… Sorry.

Quest completed

______________

The Advantages of Vegan Witchcraft

nice_pi

Right then, that’s all the ingredients. Just need to throw them all into this cauldron here… There we go!

Now you’ll see Rita. One of the advantages of vegan witchcraft that I noticed is that it goes a whole lot faster than when I’m brewing witches’ brews!

Tada! See? Already done.

Now we just need to pop our scarecrow friend into this big cauldron of witches’ brew.

Ah, there we are. And now we wait…

Ba ba ba baaaaa…

Nice day out, eh?

Did you see who went out of Jorvegian Idol last night? No? Oh…

Have you heard anything about some construction work at Moorland? No? Just a rumor? Hmm…

Doo-bee-doo-dooooo…

There! Done!

Look Rita! The scarecrow! It’s alive!

Objectives: Let the witches’ brew do its work!

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Heeeee liiiiivvveeesssssss…….

nice_pi

Haha! What a brilliant scarecrow we’ve got now Rita! Brilliant. This vegan witchcraft is a force to be reckoned with!

______________

The Scarecrow Commute

nice_pi

Here’s the new scarecrow, Rita. I’ve named him Crowy McCaw. Suitable, I think! Crows crow and crows caw! Crowy McCaw!

You just need to bring him to Jasper and he’ll get to work without delay. Let Jasper know he needs to take good care of Crowy McCaw, and tell him that he’s welcome over here sometime for a big steaming cup of swamp tea!

See you soon Rita!

Objectives: Bring Crowy McCaw the scarecrow to Jasper.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Ride with Crowy and escort him to Jasper’s farm, then speak to Jasper.

old_man_jasper

Hello there Rita. What do you want?

That’s amazing! Oh wow, what a brilliant scarecrow! He moves and everything! Haha!

Quest completed

______________

Jasper’s New BFF

old_man_jasper

Haha, Rita! That’s not a bad scarecrow right there!

He’s called Crowy McCaw, you say?

Crowy McCaw. Sounds like a good name for a scarecrow. Have you seen?

He looks pretty excited to get over into the pumpkin field and start scaring crows! Haha, go on Crowy McCaw!

Go on, you good thing!

Objectives: Make sure Crowy McCaw gets to the pumpkin patch, then talk to Jasper again.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP, Jasper’s Old Shirt

Ride out to the middle of the pumpkin field to show Crowy where he should go, then speak to Jasper again.

old_man_jasper

Crowy McCaw and I are getting along famously. Many thanks Rita, I knew I could trust you. Here’s a little gift to say thanks for all your help. It’s not much, but I hope you’ll appreciate it.

I’m sure we’ll see each other again soon. Now I’ve got to get going and watch Crowy McCaw at work.

Go on Crowy! Go on fella! Scare those flying thieves away! Hahaha! Go on, you good thing!

Scarecrows on the Loose!

old_man_jasper

Have you seen?! It is terrifying! The scarecrow! It has come to life again and floated away! It isn’t where it is supposed to be in the pumpkin field!

Travelers in the area say they have seen it floating around and it has been scaring people all the way from here to Goldenleaf Forest. Do you think you could catch it and put it back in the field again?

Objectives: Look for the escaped scarecrow and put it back in the pumpkin field. It has been seen between the pumpkin farm and Goldenleaf Forest.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings

Pick up the wayward scarecrow on its wanderings, on the road between Jasper’s farm and the trail into Goldenleaf Forest. Once you find the scarecrow, return it to Jasper’s field. Speak to Jasper when you have returned it.

old_man_jasper

There. It is back where it is supposed to be again. I hope it stays put and doesn’t decide to run away again. The only thing it needs to do is sit there and look scary. How hard can it really be?

Quest completed

______________

Jasper’s New, New Scarecrow

old_man_jasper

Hmph. Well of course, Rita. Of course it was going to turn out like this. That darned scarecrow!!

What am I going to do now? Should I just stand here and guard my pumpkins myself while all these hideous birds gorge themselves silly on them every time my back’s turned? This new scarecrow doesn’t seem to be much use at all. Worthless. Useless! Just like everything else these days!

Soon enough, those rats of the sky will be back, scavenging and feasting on my beautiful pumpkins. The flying vermin haven’t got any respect to show an old man! You should know this, Rita, when I was a boy, birds knew how to behave themselves. They showed respect! It was better in those days, which isn’t a surprise because EVERYTHING WAS BETTER IN THE OLD DAYS. EVERYTHING!

Hmph.

Don’t look so happy, Rita! Don’t you come here and make light of my misery, standing there with a big grin on your chops like a cat who got the cream! You’ll see another side of me if you carry on like that!

Hmm? What do you mean, you just want to help?

Hmph!

Well, if you’re so fixed on the idea of helping me, you could ride to Pi and tel her I want to order a new scarecrow from her. It should be one that moves and is just as scary, if not scarier than the one at Scarecrow Hill. Make sure she knows it’s not to be as useless as this one I’ve got now! Lazy and worthless… I don’t want any more such insufferable types hanging around my pumpkins!

Then you’ll also need to tell Pi that my new scarecrow should only rage at actual birds, and nothing else… That’s an important detail! My legs aren’t what they used to be, so I don’t want to be chased around by some deranged monster! Let Pi know that. You know where she lives, over in the middle of that miserable swamp.

Now you’ll have to get going, I’ve got other things to do. I’m sure I just heard something caw!

Bye!

Objectives: Ride to Pi and explain Jasper’s scarecrow problem

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Ride up through Northgate and follow the boardwalks to Pi’s house. Don’t fall in the swamp water! Yucky!!

nice_pi

Hello Rita! How lovely to have a visitor, I don’t get so many of those these days!

Quest completed

______________

An Organic Alternative for a Witch

nice_pi

So, Jasper wants a scarecrow? Like the ones up at Scarecrow Hill?

Well, it was me who enchanted those scarecrows, turning them into the terrifying flying monsters they are today, so I can’t see it being a problem. However, it’s very much a problem.

As you may remember, I wasn’t exactly the kind-hearted beauty you see before you when I cast the spells that made the scarecrows scary. In fact, I was rather evil. And green. I didn’t really pay much attention to how awful the bewitchments and curses I was casting actually were, but now all of my magic has a firm basis in ecological ethical responsibility. It’s completely vegan witchcraft, great for the environment! I was thinking about applying to have my special brand of vegan witchcraft ISO-certified!

You understand though, right? I’ve stopped mixing brews and potions with frog’s eyes and bat’s wings and newt’s legs… Now I just use ingredients from the herbal and plant kingdom! It works just as well as before, but all of my old conjurations are now unusable. These days I try to find new versions of the old formulas and spells.

So by all this I mean: it’s doable, but I need to give it some thought. Here, be a darling and fetch me a cup of organic swamp tea… It always gets me going in the right direction in the brain department. That whole cauldron over there is full of it, so just take my cup and fill it up!

Objectives: Fill Pi’s cup with swamp tea from the cauldron, then give her the cup.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Mmm…. Swamp tea…

nice_pi

Aaaaaahhhh, swamp tea! Mmmmm…

Now I can see all the pieces falling into place! The first thing we need to do is build the actual scarecrow. When it’s done, we can start thinking about the magic spell.

Quest completed

______________

Any Old Random Sack

nice_pi

We need a sack. Easy, you say?

It certainly isn’t as easy as you think, Rita. I can’t make scarecrows from just any old random sack. Obviously I need a sack made from certified fair trade materials woven by people with ethical working conditions, otherwise I’m afraid I won’t be able to use it.

Where you’d find a sack like that?

Hmm… Ask Jasper. He might know.

Objectives: Ask Jasper if he’s got a sack made from certified fair trade materials woven by people with ethical working conditions.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Why Jasper would know about hippy things like this, is beyond me, but worth a shot…

old_man_jasper

A sack? Of course I’ve got a sack.

A sack made from certified fair trade materials woven by people with ethical working conditions? What on earth is this nonsense you’re talking?!

Quest completed

______________

A Fancy, Schmancy Luxury Sack

old_man_jasper

Yeah, what did you say, again?

A sack made from certified fair trade materials woven by people with ethical working conditions… Why in the name of hot fudge sauce would I have one of those? Are my regular old sacks not good enough, huh? Only a fancy, schmancy luxury sack will do for little fancy princess Rita, eh?

What’s wrong with a proper old sack made with my own hands from fabric I’ve grown and woven myself? Hmm? I’ve even got some kind of stupid certificate and ugly stamp from the Council to say it’s environmentally climate trade change trade efficient or whatever gibberish they came out with. Regular old hand-made sacks are obviously not enough for sniffy Miss Fancy Witch. Hmph!

What?! That sounds like exactly the kind of sack she’s after?

Mm. Why didn’t you say so?

Bah! I’ve got hundreds of sacks over there in that box. You can take one, but show it to me first. I shouldn’t think I’d let you take one of my best sacks just so that witch can strut around and show off.

The sacks are in one of those boxes over there. Use this crowbar to open them up, since I nailed them together pretty hard to stop thieves having a go on my sacks.

Objectives: Get a sack from Jasper’s box and show it to Jasper. Use the crowbar to be able to open the boxes.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Dismount your horse to enter the building next to Jasper’s house, then use the crowbar from your inventory to open the box in the attic. Return to Jasper when you have found a suitable sack.

old_man_jasper

Hmph! So you found a sack?

Quest completed

______________

A Certified Sack

old_man_jasper

Bah! Take the sack and get out of here. I can’t be bothered with any of this nonsense anymore. I need to focus on my pumpkin patch, otherwise those darned birds will take the chance to gobble up every last pumpkin while my back’s turned.

What are you doing still standing here? Take the sack to Pi and beat it! Hmph.

Objectives: Take Jasper’s sack to Pi the witch.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Return to Pi with the first piece for the scarecrow.

nice_pi

You found a sack! Are you sure it’s made from certified fair trade materials woven by people with ethical working conditions?

Jasper made it himself and it’s got the Council’s organic and ecological seal, you say? Well then that’s just lovely!

Quest completed

______________

Hay Bale or Cockroach

nice_pi

We need hay to stuff the scarecrow. As luck would have it, I know where you can find the exact hay I need. Carin at Goldenleaf Stables uses only organic hay, biodynamically grown.

If you ask her nicely, she’ll probably give you a bale. If she doesn’t give you any, tell her I’ll turn her into a cockroach! Those are her options: hay bale or cockroach.

Mm, actually that’s not really very nice.

Sorry Rita.

Sometimes that old Pi creeps back in and reminds me of my old personality. Let Carin know I’d be very grateful if she could supply a bale of her lovely hay.

Forget anything I said about cockroaches…

Objectives: Ask Carin at Goldenleaf Stables for a bale of hay.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

I happen to raise cockroaches and find them to be quite charismatic little critters. I wouldn’t mind being turned into one. Life would be much more simpler…

carin2

Hello there Rita! What can I do for you on a beautiful day like today?

Quest completed

______________

Hay Bales Don’t Grow on Trees!

carin2

You’d like a hay bale, you say? Well that shouldn’t be a problem!

Actually, you could help me with something first, if you don’t mind… Just now, a truck arrive with this week’s delivery of hay, but a whole bunch of bales toppled off the truck as it was coming over the bridge from the fishing village. The driver, some dork named JB, said he hat do swerve to avoid a giant seagull that was attacking his vehicle…

So yes, since JB said he had to leave immediately for another delivery, the bales of hay are still bobbing in the water by the bridge. If you’d be a gem and collect them all from the water for me, you can take one of them for yourself. Sound like a deal?

Lovely! Hurry though, before the hay bales float out to sea!

Objectives: Pick up all the hay bales floating in the water by the bridge between the island and the fishing village, then return to Carin.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

All of the bales can be found floating near Longbridge. Return to Carin when you have picked up all of them.

carin2

Thanks for all your help, Rita. Great work.

Quest completed

______________

Hay Bales and Witches

carin2

Here’s a hay bale, as agreed. What do you want it for, by the way?

You’re giving it to Pi, you say? Hmm… Are you sure that’s a good idea? Can you really trust you her? Yeah, yeah, I suppose you know her better than I do. Take the hay bale to Pi.

Seeya!

Objectives: Take the bale of hay to Pi.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Return to Pi with the second piece for the scarecrow.

nice_pi

I see you got a bale of hay from Carin…

Hey, umm… You didn’t say anything about me threatening to turn her into a cockroach, right?

You didn’t? Great!

Finding a Rope Expert

nice_pi

To be able to make a scarecrow, we need rope. I don’t know very much about rope though, but the fishermen over in Cape West Fishing Village should have some know-how! Check if you can find someone there who’d be able to help.

Don’t forget that it needs to be organic rope without preservatives, additives, colorings, or any other jiggery-pokery!

Objectives: Find a fisherman in Cape West Fishing Village who can help you out.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Mr Trout is quite knowledgeable, let’s ask him about rope!

mr_trout

Hello there Rita! You’d like some rope, you say?

Well of course I’m sure we can arrange that!

Quest completed

______________

Searching Like a Crazy Seal!

mr_trout

You came to the right person for rope, Rita! Nobody knows more about rope than me!

If you’d just help me with one little problem I’ve been having, I’d happily give you any rope you choose! What is it I need help with, you ask?

Well, there’s been a few miniature disasters and minor catastrophes here. My very best fishing lure has disappeared! Without it, I’m not getting any nibbles in the water, so I’m sure you’ll understand just how important this is!

What happened?

Well, here’s how it was: I stood here in the harbor, fishing as normal. Then I saw really huge fish over there by where the boat comes in. Just imagine, it could have been General Sherman… Five hundred pounds of bottom-dwelling fury! Anyway, the thought of catching such a huge fish was way too much! I told myself I had to try and catch it, so I ran and ran all the way along the harbor, but since I’m not much of a runner, I slipped and the fishing line went flying, along with my best lure. I tried to see where it went but it was hopeless. Off it went, flying through the air faster than a rabid eel. Seems like it flew off in the direction of the village.

I’ve looked all over the village for it, searching like a crazy seal, but it’s been fruitless… The lure is lost without a trace. It’s almost as though it grew legs and walked off, otherwise I’m sure I’d have found it by now.

If you can find it for me, I’ll give you however much of whatever kind of rope you want. Do you think you can help me?

Fantastic! I knew I could rely on you, Rita! Come back when you’ve found my lure!

Objectives: Find Mr K Trout’s fishing lure that seems to have disappeared somewhere around the village.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Walked away, indeed…. Stuck to the butt of the dock worker. Good thing he never sits down…

mr_trout

You found it! Wonderful!

What kind of rope is it you needed?

Quest completed

______________

Sooner Seaweed Than Titanium

mr_trout

You want a completely organic rope? Are you sure?

Right now, you’ve got the chance to choose absolutely any kind of rope you could ever want, so are you sure you don’t want a proper indestructible rope made of titanium and silk? Or a priceless rope made from gold and diamond?

Okay, okay, I won’t force you. If you’ve decided it’s organic rope you want, it’s organic rope you’ll get!

Now let’s see here…

There you go! Twelve feet of rope, made of locally-sourced seaweed. It’s not very strong and smells pretty bad, but more organic than this you’ll struggle to find.

Hope you get good use out of it! See you!

Objectives: Give the rope to Pi the Witch.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Return to Pi with the last piece for the scarecrow.

nice_pi

Oh look, you found some rope!

It smells vile… That must mean it’s truly super organic! Good work Rita!

Quest completed

Return to Pi tomorrow.

Guardian Angel – Chapter 3: Chase

Once Rose is saddled up and I’m changed into my tall boots and breeches, we’re off, galloping through the paddock, soaring over logs, prancing around the other horses. Though I’m allowed out of the paddock (but no more than two miles down the road), I am not permitted in the woods. This rule, as I see it, is pointless, but I can see where Ms. A was coming from by setting it: so that I would not get lost in the dense wilderness. However, the woods stretch only for a good half mile, and are not quite as dense as Ms. A had described. If I did not break this rule, I would have nowhere to go when I feel upset or unwanted. In other words, I spend all my free time in these woods. I’m sure to wait until Ms. A goes around the back of the farmhouse to take care of the pigs before I jump the fence and canter through the meadow and into the woods. Carefully picking our way through the brush, Rose and I make it to the stream. It’s not huge, only a little creek, but it’s amazing. The trees part above it, a hole in the tapestry of the canopy, allowing golden rays of sunlight to dance on the water like a thousand diamonds. Birds of all shapes, sizes and colors play on the soft breeze, some of them diving to catch insects and some, namely the hawks, for other birds. Under the calmly drifting water reside crayfish, tadpoles, and all manner of alien creatures: water bugs the size of your big toe and other oddities, both creepy and fascinating. For me, it’s a paradise.

After tying Rose to a tree, I find a seat on the lush green patch of grass extending along this side of the creek, and suddenly take an interest in my reflection in the water. Who am I? There’s got to be more to me than the thin, crazy-haired, wild eyed girl looking back at me. I’m afraid I’ll never find out those things.

Suddenly, I hear the brush crackling behind me, and I spin around, startled. Rose’s ears are pricked, standing straight up in that magnificent, regal pose only Arabians possess. I flatten myself on the grass, waiting. Ms. A doesn’t know I come here, does she?

A buckskin horse comes into view, and I immediately recognize him as Simba, one of Ms. A’s two Andalusians. Sitting astride him is a boy who I’ve never seen before, but he sees me and seems to have been looking for me. He dismounts, walking toward me slowly. I know he’s seen me, and it’s pointless to hide, so I stand up, brushing the dirt and moss off myself.

“Who are you?” I ask, trying my hardest not to take too much notice of his sparkling blue eyes – the bluest I’ve ever seen – and slicked back dark hair. There is a noticeable tremble in my voice, and I realize I’m a little shaky.

He leads Simba next to Rose and ties him up there, coming to stand in front of me. He then sticks out his hand in kind greeting, but I don’t take it. All I can do is stare, wondering who the heck he is and where he got Simba. I’ve never seen him around Ms. A’s, and she won’t be happy to hear a random person just came and took her horse. My questions are answered soon enough.

“I’m Chase,” he says, his hand still hovering in the air. “Miss Ashton hired me last week to help around the farm, but today’s my first day. She sent me to get you. Said I’d find you here.” So she does know I come here. Why hasn’t she said something? Perhaps it’s because she knows this is where I go to be alone?

I slowly take his hand and shake it, dropping it rudely after only a small shake. “Why did she send you?” I demand. I see no need to introduce myself – Ms. A probably already told him my name. Why didn’t she tell me she was hiring a new hand?

He smiles. “She’s got a surprise for you. Come on, let’s get back to the farm.”

As we ride back silently, I can’t help but wonder why Ms. A hired Chase. After all, I had assumed she and I were doing just fine. And a surprise? Maybe that’s why she was so excited this morning?

When we break the boundary between forest and meadow, Chase breaks the boundary of our silence as well. “By the way, I’m 17. Just thought you oughta know. Give us a little something to have in common.”

“I’m 16…I think,” I say quietly. Judging by the way he smiles at me, he’s falling for my shy girl act. Really, there’s nothing in my heart but anger for him. Why? I’m not sure, but it just doesn’t seem right. Maybe it’s because I know he knows about my amnesia and is treating me like a normal person. Or maybe I’m not mad at him…maybe I’m mad at myself for appreciating the fact that he’s not acknowledging my amnesia. I think it’s the latter, since everyone I’ve met since I came here has treated me like some freak show, staring curiously at me every time I go out in public, exchanging whispers about the girl who knows nothing about herself.

Maybe neither of these things is it; maybe I’m mad at myself because I feel something for this boy, and I don’t know what to do about it.

The Secret Soul Rider Part 2

When I got to Elizabeth’s house she welcomed me and we waited for Mrs Smith. Then when she arrived, Elizabeth led us to the druids meeting centre and there I had to do a test. Mrs Smith said that as long as I tried my best I would succeed. At first I didn’t know what she meant but after I finished the test I realised that she meant that every rider is a soul rider, just that some learn to use their strengths to overcome their weaknesses. So I told Elizabeth and Mrs Smith that. Then out of the blue they suddenly told me I passed!

When we got back to Elizabeth’s cottage, Mrs Smith told me that the “test” I did was fake! The real test was understanding what it meant to try your best and you would succeed! The next thing I had to do was pick a horse to be my soul horse. I picked Poppy as you can probably guess! As Poppy already had tack and I had riding clothes, we were all set to go! “Before you go Ellie, we have something to give you,” Elizabeth and Mrs Smith said in unison.

“A soul rider jacket is what every soul rider needs!” Mrs Smith said as she handed me a bluish lilac soul rider jumper.

“It’s-it’s beautiful!” I cried.

I said that just in time as Alex and Linda almost immediately came down the mountains and asked me if I was ready to go. “YES I AM READY!” I shouted. “Thank you Mrs Smith and Elizabeth. Bye for now,”

As Linda, Alex and I rode out through Valedale, they told me what my first mission was. “Ellie listen carefully. Alex and I have just finished planning our rescue mission for Justin moorland, so we were going to spy on him and find him alone so we could take him to Mario at the observatory, who could brain wash him so he is his normal bubbly self. But there was a fault in our plan. (Alex and Linda sigh) ugh. The tracking device that Justin’s over protective mother put in him before she died has somehow been cut out of him! So that plan is over,” Huffed Linda.

“But now we have you now, so we only need 1 more soul rider and then with the help of the druids we will have enough power to instantly bring Justin back and automatically brain wash him to be normal, ”Alex exclaimed with some hope.

“You know I will do whatever it takes to find another soul rider and help release Justin from the dark side. I mean I adore soul riders and Justin is my sort of brother. His father is my god father,” Cheekily, Ellie told Linda and Alex.

“Really? I had no clue but sort of weirdly I can imagine him as you if he was a girl!” Surprised Alex said.

“Me too!” Linda realised.

Then Alex told me that it was time for us to go and start figuring out how to save Justin while Linda tries to find another soul rider.

“Bye for now Linda!” Alex said with a grin on her face.

“See you in a few days Linda!” I shouted at the top of my voice.

“Bye everyone! Until next time!” Linda screeched.

Taking the Bus to Jorvik City Plaza!

james

Hi Rita. Sigh.

Why am I sighing? Hmm… Almost all of the clothes I have in stock to sell to the tourists here are sold out. I guess it’s a pretty nice problem to have, since it means I’ve already sold lots of stuff, but it’s still a problem…

Before now, I’ve always been able to order new clothes and have the delivered from Jorvik City, but lately it’s not been going very well. All the packages of clothes seem to be getting lost, like by the roadside and so on, which means I don’t end up with anything to sell. I should really head over to Jorvik City now and pick up some new stock, but who’d be here taking care of all the tourists if I went there?

So, yeah… Rita… Might you be able to do me a favor? Could you go to the mall for me and pick up the things I’ve ordered? The mall? Yeah, Jorvik City Plaza, Jorvik’s biggest shopping mall!

You’ll go? Amazing! Thanks Rita! You could probably also pick up the horse gear I’ve ordered as well. Y’know, while you’re there…

How do you get to Jorvik City Plaza? It’s easy! All you have to do is take the bus. There’s even a bus stop right here in Fort Pinta!

But… You need a bus ticket. Unfortunately, every bus ticket can only be used by the person who bought it, otherwise I’d lend you mine.

It’s easy to buy your own though. The Notary here in Fort Pinta sells bus tickets, so buy one from him. When you’ve bought it, you activate it in the machine here behind me.

I haven’t really got the time to carry on chatting now Rita, business calls! So, buy a bus ticket and activate it in the machine behind me.

Objectives: Get a bus ticket. If you don’t already have one, you can buy one from the Notary in Fort Pinta. Activate your bus ticket in the machine behind James, then return to talk to James again.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Bus tickets cost 110 Jorvik Shillings, but need only be purchased once. After you buy it, you can keep it in your inventory for every time you want to ride the bus (you need the ticket to use the bus, such as the key for the secret Greendale treehouse, or ticket for Ydris’ Circus).

When you buy the ticket, dismount your horse and use it on the activation machine, then speak to James.

james

Have you got a bus ticket now, Rita? Good. And you’ve activated it as well?

Splendid! Then it’s off to Jorvik City Plaza!

Quest completed

______________

To Jorvik City in No Time!

james

Excellent Rita! Now you’ve got a bus ticket, and it’s validated as well! Believe me, those bus drivers can spot an invalid ticket from a mile away!

Hurry off to the mall now, though; no time to waste! The bus leaves from the other side of the bridge to Fort Pinta. All you need to do is go there and wait for the bus to come. Show your ticket to the driver, and then he’ll drive you to the mall in no time at all!

Don’t hang out there for too long, just think of all the customers I won’t be able to trick… Umm… I mean, make happy during all the time you’re away if I haven’t got anything to sell!

Seeya!

Objectives: Take the bus to the mall in Jorvik City. The bus leaves from the bus stop on the other side of the bridge into Fort Pinta. The bus leaves every few minutes so you might have to wait a short while if you’ve just missed one.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 15 with Jorvik City Plaza

Wait by the bus stop. There is a countdown timer on the bus sign that will tell you when the next bus will arrive. When the bus pulls up, dismount your horse, and use your ticket from your inventory.

When you arrive at the mall, look around near the door for someone who must surely know what’s going on here…

janitor

Hey! You there! Yeah, you! Can’t you see I just mopped that floor?

Kids these days… Sigh… No respect for their elders.

Quest completed

______________

No Respect for My Craft

janitor

Well well, what can I do for you then? You’re picking up stuff for James in Fort Pinta, you say?

Heh! Well you’re certainly not the first victim he’s sent to do his work for him, all because he’s too cheap to buy his own bus ticket, he sends other people he sends here to do his heavy lifting. Who do you think has to take care of all these little lost sheep he sends here?

Exactly! It’s me! But now I’ve had enough! I can’t be bothered to help you as well as all the others, you’ll have to look after yourself!

Sigh. Okay, since you ask so nicely… You can help me with something in return though, first.

You’ll be happy to help me, you say?! Well that’s great! Maybe you’re not as useless as all these other pushovers James sends…

As you can see, the floor here’s completely spotless. Not a bad job, if I do say so myself! Sadly, people just walk all over it any which way they please, but we’re going to put a stop to that. They act like they own the place, they never show any respect for my hard work. Pff.

Here, set out these warning signs where I’ve just mopped, and maybe the floor will be able to stand up to their filth for at least a little while.

Go on, get out of here. Place out the signs and don’t come back before it’s done.

Objectives: Set out the warning signs around the mall.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 20 with Jorvik City Plaza

Place the warning signs around the first and second floors of the mall, then return to the Janitor when you are done.

janitor

Yeah, yeah, that’s not so dumb. Maybe there’s hope for you yet.

Quest completed

______________

All Those Other Sheep in the Mall

janitor

Hmm, did you think you were finished?

Haha, no. I knew you’d think you were finished, you’re a total lazybones just like everyone else who visits my mall!

You’re not a lazybones, you say? Okay, well let’s see about that. You can have a chance to prove you’re not a sleepy little slacker like all the others; spoiled little princesses wandering around like they own the place, leaving all their garbage behind them.

Rude is what they are! Rude and vile! When I tell the boss about the rude, vile pigs, all I hear is “you should smile at the customers.”

Bah! If it was up to me, I’d keep all of them out of the mall and then there’d finally be a bit of order round here. Ah well, until that day comes, somebody’s gonna have to pick up all the rubbish they throw everywhere and today, that somebody isn’t going to be me. Ha!

Pick up all the garbage you find lying around the place and then maybe I’ll help you. Go on! Get moving! Scram!

Objectives: Pick up the trash from around the mall and then return to the Janitor.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 15 with Jorvik City Plaza

Well, if you close the mall to everyone, when who’s going to pay your wages, Mr Janitor? Didn’t think of that now, huh??

janitor

Good. You’ve done a really nice job.

Okay, you seem to be a little better bred than some of the other nitwits that hang around here at the mall. I’ll help you.

Quest completed

______________

Faster Than a Runaway Horse

janitor

Well, you surely know how that James works. Last time he was here, he tried to get me to buy a time-share apartment in one of the towers of Fort Pinta. It wasn’t even built, it didn’t even have planning permission, but he still tried to get me to put down a deposit that was enough money to have bought half of Valedale! Pffff.

I seem to remember letting him know exactly what I thought of him at the time. Haha! I’ve never seen anyone run so fast!

Haha! He must’ve run all the way back to Fort Pinta faster than a bolting horse! Since then, he’s never dared show his face around here, which is probably why that wretched little rat sent you instead…

Ah well, James orders clothes from Gordon at the clothes store over there. Talk to Gordon, he’s a friendly sort and can probably do something for you.

Come back to me with the clothes delivery once you’ve got it. No point carrying around a huge heavy pile of clothes while you’re hear. I’ll look after them until you’re ready to ride back to James.

Objectives: Talk to Gordon in the Mall’s clothes store.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Jorvik City Plaza

The clothes store is on the first floor of the mall.

gordon

Hello! Welcome to Jorvik City Plaza’s clothes store! The biggest clothes store in all of Jorvik!

If you want to try on some of our fabulous outfits, all you need to do is go into the fitting room over there and check out our collections!

Clothes delivery to James? Oh right. I thought you wanted to buy something.

Oh well.

Hmm… Now let’s see…

Exactly! James’ order… I have it in the stock room, wait a second and I’ll grab it for you.

Quest completed

______________

Track Back the Backpack

gordon

Ah. Hmm.

I lock the door to the stock room every evening. I always have the keys in my backpack since I’m forever losing little things like keys and coins, so the backpack helps me remember where everything is. Hold on, I’ll just grab it.

Hmm…

Where’s my backpack?

No! I must’ve left it somewhere!

Oh no… This means I can’t get into the stock room…

Would you be able to help me? My backpack must be around here somewhere. Could you take a look around the mall and see if you can find it?

Objectives: Find Gordon’s backpack somewhere in the mall, then return to him at the clothes store.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: 10 with Jorvik City Plaza

Seriously, what is with people losing keys and stuff all the time??

gordon

Amazing! You found my backpack!

Haha, you’ll never guess what happened while you were away. I’d forgotten to lock the door to the stock room, so I didn’t need the key in the backpack in the end. It’s really nice of you to help me though!

Seems like forgetting to lock the stock room was pretty lucky in the end. I found time to pick out the items on James’ order while you were out looking for my backpack.

Quest completed

______________

Half a Ton of Clothes

gordon

Here, who was supposed to get the order again? James! Of course, that’s how it was.

Hmm… Are you sure you don’t need to go to the mall Janitor first? Everyone else who James sends seems to go to him, and I can understand why! This order must weight half a ton! You won’t want to wander around with all that extra weight if you don’t need to!

Objectives: Return to the mall Janitor with the clothes.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 20 with Jorvik City Plaza

Take the stuff back to the Janitor.

janitor

Hello again! So you got James’ clothes order? It’s quite heavy, right? Thought so! His orders usually are.

I’ll look after everything here while you get the rest of James’ stuff!

Quest completed

______________

Jorvik City Plaza: Horse Equipment Store

janitor

So, James sent you to pick up the horse equipment he ordered?

Right. He must’ve ordered it from Alyx, she’s the owner of the horse equipment store here in Jorvik City Plaza. Go and talk to her, and then come back once you’ve got the delivery. I’ll keep my eye on it for you until you’re ready to go back to James with it, if you leave it with me. No point wandering around with a bunch of heavy saddles and stuff if you don’t have to.

Objectives: Talk to Alyx in the horse equipment store.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 10 with Jorvik City Plaza

The horse equipment store is on the first floor of the mall.

alyx

Welcome to Jorvik’s biggest equipment store! How can I help you?

Equipment for James? Oh! You’re here to pick up his order? That’s a shame.

What Old JB Says

alyx

I thought that I’d do James a favor, so I sent his delivery of on its way. It was only a couple minutes ago that I sent it, so you’re lucky!

You don’t look happy. You won’t have to carry it anymore, cheer up!

Haha! You’re strange. Why do you want to do loads of work if you can get away with not doing it?

You promised him, you say? Oh, okay.

If you hurry, you might catch up with JB before he sets off from the mall.

Who’s JB?

He’s the driver that takes all the deliveries to Silverglade. He usually stops for a cup of coffee before he gets out on the road in his truck. Hurry over to the cafe and you might just catch him.

See you! Come back soon!

Objectives: Talk to JB the driver at the mall cafe.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 15 with Jorvik City Plaza

You’ll find JB by the cafe counter, with a big crate next to him. He’s the weirdo that refers to himself in third-person…

jack_b

Stop.

Hold it one second… Back up, back up. Let JB drink his coffee in peace before he goes back to putting his life on the line out on the roads of Jorvik.

Shhh…

Hmm… This isn’t coffee! This is… TEA!

Everyone just calm down! JB is here, just take it easy.

Y’know what old JB would say when this kind of thing happens?

What?! You don’t know who JB is? I”M JB!

What’s you name? Rita. Mhm, well it doesn’t matter anyway. I’ve got a job for you. Get me some coffee. With milk. Don’t forget the milk!

Quest completed

We’ll need to find some coffee with milk somewhere around here… Speak to the cashier at the cafe, Clementine. Maybe she can help?

Mall Dishes

clementine

Hello there! Do you have a moment?

Would you be able to help me with something? I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t urgent.

Thanks!

So it’s like this: all the customers that order from the cafe don’t just sit nicely at their tables, and instead wander off around the mall with my cups and saucers and just leave them randomly lying around the place.

Because of this, I’m almost out of dishes to serve things in, and I’m on my own here so I can’t leave the cafe to pick them all up.

I’d be able to stay here and serve the guests if you wouldn’t mind going around the mall and gathering up all the dishes…

Thanks so much! This is super nice of you.

Objectives: Find all the dishes left behind around the mall.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP, Coffee with Milk

Reputation: 25 with Jorvik City Plaza

Geez, the nerve of some people!

Collect all the dishes, then return to Clementine.

clementine

Great! You found all the dishes that disappeared from the cafe!

Thanks a lot!

Quest completed

Now trade your cup of coffee with JB. Hopefully that will perk him up.

Call the Councilman After Sunrise

jack_b

Ha!

Now I’m ready! Time to get out onto the open road again. Keep the home fires burning and if I’m not back by sunrise, call the Councilman!

What now? A delivery for James, you ask?

Of course! It’s right here beside me. You can trust old JB, my deliveries always get where they’re going! Door to door! Last month I managed to drive off the bridge to Fort Pinta only THREE times! Three! That’s a new record!

You can tell James that JB’s on his way!

You’ll take the order to James, you say? Oh, okay. Less work for me, I suppose! Take it!

Objectives: Pick up the delivery next to JB and take it to the Janitor.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 20 with Jorvik City Plaza

Open the box to pick up James’ stuff and bring it to the Janitor.

janitor

Looks like you got the horse equipment James ordered! I’ll keep an eye on it until you’re ready to head back to Fort Pinta.

Quest completed

If you want to continue shopping and exploring the mall, do not start the next quest, as it will send you back to Fort Pinta. If you are ready to leave, then by all means…

Back to James

janitor

So there we go, no you’ve got both the deliveries James wanted. Come back to the mall tomorrow if you want, but wipe your feet on the way in, I don’t want more dirty feet tramping over my nice clean floors!

I hope you get something from James for all the trouble you’ve gone to.

Not likely, but now you’ve got yourself a bus ticket, you’ll be able to come back here whenever you like.

See you soon!

Objectives: Return to Fort Pinta and talk to James.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP, Warm Pink Spring Vest

Puuuh-lease! Do I look like a pushover to you? I ain’t letting that little turd get away without rewarding me!

james

Hey Rita, how did it go?

Wonderful! Both clothes and horse equipment! These are going to sell like hot cakes!

Reward? I promised you a rewards? Hmm, seems like you remembered wrong.

Okay, okay, you can have something. Hold on, lemme see what I’ve got in this box…

Here, this is probably nice or something, you’ll like it. Now you’ll have to excuse me, I’ve got business to attend to.

Quest completed

Well pardon me, don’t let me distract you from all the work you didn’t have to do to get this stuff here…

You can now go to the mall whenever you like, just catch the bus at the Fort Pinta bridge. Make sure you have your ticket in your inventory and you’ll be ready to go!

Gone With the Wind!

mrs_packard

I’ve got some bad news about the applications, I’m afraid…

I’d just opened the mailbox to collect my letters when at that exact moment, a big gust of wind came from absolutely nowhere! I wasn’t at all prepared for it, and so all of Andy’s applications suddenly found themselves scattered around in the wind!

Oh, loveliest Rita, how sweet of you to ask whether any of my own mail was blown away… You’re ever so thoughtful.

Well, the mailman hadn’t actually delivered mine by that time; the only thing in the mailbox were the applications for Andy’s competition.

Would you be so kind as to help me find the applications that flurried away, dear Rita?

Oh, thanks ever so much dearie! How very kind of you to help me gather up all the missing applications. I should rather imagine they’re spread out all over the village by now. It would be ever so sweet of you to gather them up and bring them back to me.

Would you be able to trot over to the Councilman in Firgrove and pick it up for me?

What the prize is or could be is something I have absolutely no idea about whatsoever, but I dare say the winner of the competition will find out soon enough! Haha!

Doesn’t seem like many people applied for my contest…

…Sigh.

Hmm… What should I do now…?

You know what, Rita? Maybe you’re right. Maybe it does take time to build up a reputation and get people interested in a competition like this.

But even if not as many people applied as I’d hoped, we have to run competition anyway! Especially with all the preparations we’ve done together.

Would you like to have a go?

For real? Great! You sure?

Guardian Angel – Chapter 2: Farm Work

Rose is standing patiently in her stall and whinnies when I enter the stable, greeting me, eager to go for a ride. I reach into her stall and stroke her velvety muzzle, wondering for the hundredth time: Did I ride horses before I lost my memory? Even Ms. A has noticed I seem to have a way with them, so it’s not to say I’ve gone without experience. And, though I’ve never told anyone this, I feel a sense of familiarity whenever I’m around horses, as if they make up most of my memories, and when I see them, my brain starts working overtime to try and recover where I’ve seen them before. It never works, no matter how long I stay with the horses.

“No ride right now; I’ve got too much work,” I say, pulling a carrot out of my pocket. Clipping the lead rope onto her halter, I lead Rose out of the stall and into the cross ties, handing her the carrot as I begin to brush her, being extra careful to clean her face well. I do a decent job, and when I’m done, her unique Arabian tail is full and shiny, her long, scarlet mane hangs down and glitters in the light like blood flowing down from her neck, and the star in the middle of her forehead shines like a real star. I step back and admire my work. Not bad.

Ms. Ashton comes into the stable, dragging a bale of hay behind her, whistling loudly. I lead Rose back to her stall, and she protests, hesitating before entering.

“We’ll ride later. I promise. Right now, I’ve got work to do.” I give her one last pat before following Ms. A down the aisle, dropping hay into the stalls. While the horses are eating, I carry the water buckets one by one to the pump, where I fill them to the brim with fresh, clean water before returning them to the stalls. Since there are only six stalls and the work is split between me and Ms. A, it’s a job easily completed.

Once the horses are all fed and watered, I help Ms. A bring the horses out to the paddock, where they will roam free for the rest of the day, or until Ms. A or I decides to ride one of them. Sometimes, she’ll let me ride bareback, and there’s no feeling quite like galloping around the paddock, feeling the tall grass tickle my bare feet and letting the wind blow my hair in crazy, random directions.

The paddock stretches precisely a half mile, almost reaching the woods and stream where I sometimes go to be alone. It would be much larger if it weren’t for those woods, which house all kinds of danger to the animals: bears and coyotes and wolves and wild cats. I’ve only seen a coyote here once, and never one of these larger, more dangerous predators, but Ms. Ashton proudly displays a large assortment of the pelts of wolves and bobcats she’s shot stalking the sheep, horses and cows on the wall of her shed. It’s a rather impressive collection, I must admit, and I hate it. My love of animals deprives me of enjoying the sight of their pelts on a wall.

The next job is to milk the cows. There are few cows on the farm, only about eight, so this is not too time-consuming. I’m fueled by the knowledge that when I’m done with milking, Ms. A will let me squirt some of the milk into my mouth. This is rather childish, I suppose, but on a warm, sticky day like today, there’s nothing quite like a mouthful of sweet, thick milk.

Ms. A helps me finish the last two cows, and in the sunlight, I can see streaks of gray here and there in her auburn hair. Funny, I never really thought of her as old. I guess that’s because she hides her age well – she doesn’t look a day over forty. Her hair is thick, short, and full of color, though it must be getting very gray, because I’ve noticed it becoming darker colored. This is how I know she’s coloring it.

She’s a somewhat short lady, only a few inches taller than me. (I’m 5.4, or so the doctors said.) Her hands are rough and calloused, probably from her years and years of farm work, but there’s not a wrinkle on her face, and if I didn’t know for a fact that she was 51, I’d say she’s thirty.

The next job is the hardest: herding the sheep. It’s already almost noon, and I estimate this to take a good hour or easily two. This leaves very little free time for me to ride, considering we still have to go to the Saturday market, three miles north on the old dirt road. Supper is usually served at five, after which I bathe and read for the remainder of the night, until lights out at nine.

We stand outside the sheep field, a large fenced in area that’s nearly as large as the paddock. Inside are fifty or so sheep, and their numbers will soon be growing.

Ms. A scratches her head. “I don’t rightly know how to go about this,” she confesses, leaning on the fence and wiping the sweat from her forehead. “All these years I’ve had a dog. How to do this…?”

“Well…couldn’t we just let them give birth out here? I mean…what’s wrong with that?”

She smiles, obviously grateful for the idea. “Well, lambs, especially newborns, are easy pickin’s for all them predators I warned you about. We need to get ’em in the barn, where it’s safe. Once they’re a few days old and can really run, then they can stay out in the pen. Now, how to start…?”

I never thought about it in this way. The sheep usually come in at night just by instinct, so there’s no work but closing the doors once they’re in the barn. The barn is almost always open, but the sheep rarely go into it during the day unless it’s very hot or raining. How we’re going to get all twenty-seven pregnant sheep into the barn is a mystery. (Yes, we counted and marked the expecting sheep mothers.) Not to mention they’re all mixed up with the other sheep and rams. Indeed, this is not a job for people. It’s for dogs. Despite knowing this, Ms. A and I set about picking each pregnant sheep out one by one and working together to herd them into the barn, closing the door behind each one. I can hear Harley barking wildly, chained to the side of the shed, and I sympathize. I, too, wish he were here, doing this work.

It takes a good hour and a half to get all the sheep into the barn, and by the time we collapse against the door of the barn after having closed it for the last time, we can already hear little “baas” coming from inside. This being my first time working with sheep (I think), a sense of excitement comes over me that I can hardly control, and I beg Ms. A to let me see the new babies. She smiles and allows me to go into the barn and observe the sheep giving birth from a distance.

“Why do they all give birth on the same day?” I ask.

“They don’t,” Ms. A says, pointing to a few sheep in the corner, still fat but not looking like they’re going into labor. “Usually, they’ll all give birth within three days. Alright, you’ve got an hour to do as you please, but I’d like for you to be cleaned up and ready to go to the market in time.”

I nearly bolt out of the barn. Freedom at last! I head to the paddock, eager to ride before we leave. I can’t say I’m not excited to go to the market, though, because that means I’ll get to see my best friend, Rachel.

Despite the work, today isn’t turning out to be so bad.

Golden Leaves- Part 2

The next day, I woke up earlier than usual. (But of course I didn’t know that yet!) I turned around and nearly yelled when I saw what the time was. It was 4:15am in the morning! I usually wake up at 8:00am or 7:00am so this was a record for me! As I’ve never had this much spare time, I decided to go for a walk around Golden Hills Valley and Cape West Fishing Village. I quickly got up and dressed in a hoodie and some jeans. I decided not to go to the stables as mum was there and she would get stressed out. So instead, I just walked to Jasper’s and back. I had a coffee with him and we told each other a few jokes. When I got home I could see some white falling from the sky. SNOW! Now I could see mum running back home with a shadow behind her. But when she saw me looking she quickly gestured for me to go inside. As soon as I had sat on the bed, my phone rang. “Well hello Willow! I’m just calling you to tell you that today school will be off due to the fact that its snowing, bye!”It was one of the teachers voice so it definitely couldn’t be a prank. Relieved that we don’t go to school when its snowing here, I sat down. Once again, as soon as I had sat down I had to get up as I heard my mum calling from outside. But when I opened the back door I didn’t see mum. I saw a HORSE! “Aww…Isn’t he a cutie?”I cried”Yeah, I thought you’d like this horse! Well-“Said mum a bit nervously. “Well what, mum?”I asked her nervously, fearing for the answer. “The stables are closing down so we have to go to another place where I can find a job.”For a few seconds I stood quietly, hardly taking all it in. “So, where are we going?”I asked mum. “Well, I was thinking about a nice place called Jorvik Stables,”She said slowly. I’d heard about Jorvik Stables before. Its said to be good for learning how to be a elite rider. “Now, you go get some sleep now sweetie!” I trudged upstairs and fell asleep straight away, thinking about Jorvik Stables.

Day 99, Fun Times Ahead!

Visit Andy by the Firgrove Sandpit to see what he has planned.

The Start of Something New!

andy

Hey there Rita! What fun that you called by! A few days ago, I was reading about this thing called geocaching; ever heard of it?

No?

No worries, I hadn’t either, but I thought it sounded really exciting so I’ve decided to organize a special geocaching contest here in Firgrove!

I can tell you more about it if you’re interested in helping out?

You are? Great! This is going to be so much fun! Haha!!

In order to get started, we’l have to write a few clues.

What am I going to do with the clues? Haha… You’ll see! First I need to find my pen, I’ve got no idea where I’ve put it.

Could you help me have a look for it?

Objectives: Help Andy find his pen.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Search the area for Andy’s pen. Bring it back to him when you find it.

andy

That’s it! Thanks ever so much Rita! I’d never have found it without you!

Now, what were we talking about? Ah, of course, I was going to tell you more about geocaching!

Geocaching is a little bit like orienteering, except instead of looking for coordinates on a map, you’re looking for so-called ‘treasure.’ The treasure should always be found at the end of the trail, and the treasure could be absolutely anything under the sun!

In certain variants of geocaching, you have to look for clues to be able to find the cache of treasure.

I’m going to be doing it in my own style… Maybe we could call it AndyCaching or perhaps even GeoAndy? Haha!

If you wait just a little while Rita, I’ll just write down a few clues and then I’ll tell you a little bit more about what you’ll be able to help with.

Typing Up the Clues

andy

So there we go! The clues are written, and they’re pretty great, if you ask me, hehe… I wonder how long it’ll take before someone’s able to work out exactly where the first clue leads to?

Unfortunately, I’m not able to tell you what I’ve written or where it leads to, Rita… It’s a secret!

That said, it’d be great if you could help me by rolling up these clues and tying them all up with this ribbon. Make it into a nice bow if you’re able to!

Oh, and Rita… Promise you won’t take a sneaky peek at the clues when you’re rolling them up. Not that I think you’d do that, but it’s really important that the clues stay secret for everyone, at least until the contest gets under way.

Here’s some ribbon. Roll up the papers and then tie them up into a bow with this ribbon, then it’ll all be perfect!

Objectives: Tie up the clues using the ribbon Andy gave you.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Dismount your horse and use the ribbon from your inventory to tie up the clues. Speak to Andy when you are finished.

andy

Nice work on the clues! Good ribbon work, haha! They look really exciting! I bet you’re wondering what’s written on them, hehe!

Has the Delivery Been Delivered?

andy

How lovely of you to ask if there’s anything you can help out with Rita, honestly, it’s really nice of you.

Since it’ll be me organizing the whole event, it wouldn’t be fair for me to take part, so I’ve ordered both posters and leaflets to be handed out in Firgrove. I think this could be something really big! Maybe something we’ll be famous for! Think about it… Rita and Andy’s Geocaching! Sounds awesome!

I’ve got tons to do; would you mind riding over to see my grandma, Mrs Packard? Ask her if the leaflets and posters I’ve ordered have been delivered yet…

Objectives: Ride to Firgrove Village and talk to Mrs Packard.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Speak to Mrs Packard outside her house in the back of the village.

mrs_packard

Oh, my dear sweet little Rita, you’re a busy bee as usual, I can see!

Aha! You’ve spoken to Andy and he’s asked you to come up and see me. Of course, yes, his delivery has been delivered! There are some lovely posters and leaflets that need to be put up and handed out.

Andy already spoke to the Councilman and got his permission to hand out the leaflets and put up the posters, so everything’s not that far away from being done and dusted!

andy

A parcel for me?

Oh well of course, haha! Never thought it’d be here this early, but yeah! It’s great that it arrived!

Now you’re gonna get to see something cool, Rita…

Following Instructions

andy

I bought a treasure chest online! How amazing is that?!

I figured it’d be pretty cool to have the competition-winner’s prize in the treasure chest! If I read the instructions out, would you be able to put it together?

Nice! Right then, step one says: take the bottom part and lat it flat on the ground.

Then it says you take the lid and place it on the bottom section.

Lastly, it says you have to screw in the screws so that the lid is firmly attached to the bottom part.

Then when these three steps have been successfully completed, you will be the proud owner of a ready-to-use treasure chest!

Doesn’t sound that bad, eh Rita?

Objectives: Help Andy put the treasure chest together.

Rewards: 35 Jorvik Shillings, 45 XP

Dismount your horse to assemble the treasure chest.

First,, place the two pieces, then use the screwdriver on them. Speak to Andy when you are finished.

andy

Great! Thanks so much Rita! It’s lovely, you really were great at putting it all together!

Now I’m off to hid the clues I wrote earlier, so it’s probably best that you call back tomorrow if you’d still like to carry on with helping out! While I’m out fixing up the clues, there’s not much else to do.

Quest completed

Return to Andy tomorrow.
