Ride to Silverglade and use the photo of Valiant on any of the residents. They will all say that they don’t recognize the horse but direct you to Steve, as he knows a lot about horses. Visit Steve at his farm to see if he knows Valiant.

The poor thing…

That didn’t sound too good. Poor old Valiant… I can’t believe people would do that! Gosh!

Hmm…

It’s not all strange that we can’t Valiant to jump or ride the barrel race, most things must frighten him… I wonder if he’s even ridden a jump track before?

We can’t send him back to whoever treated him like this, but I can’t know for sure if he’ll feel too good about living here with me, I’m not sure he’d enjoy dealing with all the visitors I get all the time. I’ll ask the Baroness if she’d like to have him at her yard instead.

Speaking of the Baroness… I need to talk to her today. Time to tell her about Butterfly…

Would you come with me Rita? I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it myself.

Oh I see, not snooping, eh? No of course, well we’ll stick to that story then, shall we?

Yes, that’s right, my colleague Carl and I took a horse from here down to Marley Summer’s yard.

Umm, what are you implying? That the horse was swapped? Who’d do something like that? You don’t think it’s just that Marley who’s dippy enough to have mixed up the horses himself? According to his brother, he’s as dizzy as the day is long, and would lose his own head if it wasn’t screwed on…

Haha, probably a little exaggeration but that’s what Carney says…

Sorry, but I can’t help you. I hope you find the horse soon, but now I’ve got to get back to work. Lots to do before our boat comes to fetch us this evening. 

Carl and I travel rather a lot. We usually set up camp down by the water, which is nice and practical, and plenty easy to get around. Easier to travel over water than over land if you ask me.

But yeah, anyway, good luck. I know it doesn’t help much, but here, take a few of these delicious clementines. Carl bough them even though I quite clearly asked for mandarins, the stupi– I mean, umm, they’re easy to mix up, I suppose. Haha. Ha.

The color matches, the black markings match… Might this horse be Butterfly?

You feel along the horse’s back right leg, and just as you suspected, this really is the real Butterfly.

Butterfly goes up to Valiant right away and even though the horses have never met before, it seems as though they’re already best friends. 

Butterfly follows Valiant, who leads him back to Marley’s farmyard. You don’t need to worry about the horses anymore.
