a link to the past, ahoy there sailor, beating fear, bernadine winterwell xvii, bragging rights, builder donald, fredrick elving, get away for a while, hard labor helps you sleep better, high level restoration, is the bridge in one piece, last phase of the build, modernizing new hillcrest, new pillars for the bridge, the bridge building continues, the most brilliantly beautiful bridge, who dares wins

These quests cover several days, or can be done all at once by spending Star Coins.

To unlock these quests, you must have first visited South Hoof Peninsula and started up the ferry there from Fort Pinta.

Once you are known to the people of South Hoof, you can visit Bernadine Winterwell XVII in New Hillcrest.

Modernizing New Hillcrest

bernadine_winterwell_xvii

Hello!

It’s a completely pleasant pleasure to meet you. My name is Bernadine and I’m the decision-taking, ground-breaking, progress-making visionary all-rounder here in New Hillcrest. I pretty much run the show single-handedly on the town council, well at least since about two years ago in any case.

I’ve seen you, you know! I’ve seen you out and about on the helping hand trail, giving people a boost and a push here and there, and I’d like to offer you the town’s official thank you for all your help at the same time as extending the official welcoming hand of New Hillcrest. I mean I thought it’d be nice if you could get an official welcome to the town from a town official like me.

Welcome to “New Hillcrest: The No-Frown Town,” as we like to call it. Well, it’s actually just me calling New Hillcrest the no-frown town. For now. I’ve created a new slogan for the town because the old one is so dull and backwards-looking. Listen to this…

“New Hillcrest: a Settlement of Tradition.” Ugh, it’s so bad that it hurts my mouth just to say it. Incredibly dull. I want us to look ahead and highlight the happy, positive spirit of the townsfolk. In spite of everything they’ve got going against them, everyone here is so upbeat and lovely! That’s why it’s much better to have a slogan like…

“New Hillcrest: The No-Frown Town!” It has a much better ring to it, wouldn’t you say?

You think it’s a winner? Haha, great!

I’ve been giving some thought to doing a little market research to investigate the opinion of the people. I’d love to be able to ask the people around town what they think about changing slogans, but I haven’t had time. There’s been so much to do since I took over running the town council. New plans here and new plans there! Everything all at once!

What’s that you say? You could ask people if they want to change slogans to “the no-frown town?” Well of course I’d be thrilled if you could help out, Rita! Thanks!

Go round and ask people here on the square if they think they might like to change slogans.

Objectives: Go round to the townspeople on the square and ask if they’d like to change the town slogan from “New Hillcrest: a Settlement of Tradition” to “New Hillcrest: The No-Frown Town.”

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation with Roadworks

The “Roadworks” is not an official faction. All reputation earned on this story arc go towards building the bridge, which is done in several levels as it was done with the bridge in Moorland.

Speak to the shopkeeps, notary, and others around the square. Most seem happy at the idea, but the notary must be a bit old fashioned.

Return to Bernadine with news of everyone’s opinions.

bernadine_winterwell_xvii

Five out of six people want to change the slogan to “The No-Frown Town?!” Wow! That’s 83.33333%! It’s a landslide!

Hurray! Then it’s decided. We’ll be changing slogans. Thanks for your help Rita!

Typical that the Notary wouldn’t want to change slogans. I had a feeling though. Hehe.

______________

A Link to the Past

bernadine_winterwell_xvii

Everything’s starting to fall into place here in New Hillcrest as we push forward with our plans to build for the future! We’ve changed our slogan and finished building the colorful terraced houses on the other side of the street, and it’s all part of making New Hillcrest more attractive! We’ve already managed to rent out most of the home we’ve built. My forefathers ran the town council before me, but they were afraid of change and wanted to keep everything the same as it ever was. If you resist change, you just end up stuck to the same spot and getting nowhere. If you want to get anywhere in life, you have to dare to see change as something positive!

Another part of our vision for New Hillcrest’s future is to rebuild the link between New Hillcrest and South Hoof. South Hoof is a wonderful place to visit and it’s a tremendous privilege to have it so close by! The landscape there is so beautiful and vast, but the bridge that used to go there has been in disrepair for many, many years. We’ve hired a builder to take care of the restoration, but it seems to be taking him an awfully long time. Donald – as he’s called – seems to know what he’s doing but something in particular seems to have him stumped.

What’s that you say? You KNOW Donald?! What a remarkable coincidence!

You say you’d like to help?! Oh my, how wonderful! That good name you’ve made for yourself really holds true!

Ride down to Donald and see if there’s any way you can help hurry things along. He’s down at the stables just outside town.

Objectives: Go see Donald down by the stables on the outskirts of New Hillcrest. He seems to need help with repairing the bridge to South Hoof.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation with Roadworks

Howdy, long time no see, old friend!

Donald can be found behind the sign for the stables race.

mr_bucket

Well would you look at that! Rita!

What are you doing here?

Quest completed

______________

High-Level Restoration

mr_bucket

How wonderful to see you again Rita!

Oh really? Bernadine thinks the bridge rebuilding is going too slowly? Well that’s not very reasonable of her. She’s set me on a budget that’s way too tight, and then complains about my productivity. Hmph.

What’s that? You wonder why it’s going slowly?

Umm. Heh, well… The bridge is very tall and rickety. Not stable at all. Then there’s the whole thing of me still suffering from a fear of heights… Then the part where the bridge goes over water and I can’t really be around water because of my fear of, well, water. It’s difficult enough for me to even drink water sometimes.

You think it’s pretty stupid of me to have taken the job on then?

Well yes, I suppose you might be onto something there. I thought it might have been a good way to overcome my fears, but it hasn’t really been going very well on that front…

Really?! You’ll help me fix up the bridge?! Oh, thank you Rita, thank you so much!

We can do this together! We need to give extra support to the bridge with some new pillars and we also need to lay down some new foundations.

After that’s done and everything’s a bit more stable again, we need to relay the planks along the bridge.

Shall I show you where the bridge needs a bit of reinforcement?

Objectives: Donald tells you about how the bridge between South Hoof and New Hillcrest is in need of repair.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation with Roadworks

You are shown where the pillars and concrete bases go as well as planks on the walkway of the bridge.

PLEASE NOTE! IMPORTANT!!

You are given supplies to build the bridge as a daily quest or you can buy them with Star Coins from the construction shop in New Hillcrest.

PAY ATTENTION to where you lay your supplies as it is possible to still use them on places you have already built and will waste them if you do.

You will not be compensated for wasted supplies.

mr_bucket

Then you can… Um, I mean WE… Now WE can get started with the rebuilding.

Quest completed

______________

New Pillars for the Bridge

mr_bucket

Okay. Now we’l show Bernadine that we can get through this project at lightning speed! We need to give the bridge new support from underneath with new pillars. But the truck that was supposed to deliver the logs here to the building site just dumped them on the path that leads up to New Hillcrest instead of bringing them all the way here. Really unprofessional if you ask me. You’ll need to ride there and get them. Then we’re going to cut them and plane them so that they’ll be able to replace the broken old pillars.

You can buy ready-made pillars up on the square in New Hillcrest if you like. It’s the same old story though, the budget is so tight because Bernadine wanted to keep the costs down, so you’ll have to pay for the pillars yourself if you want the build to go faster.

Anyway, before you start, I’ll show you where you’ll find the untreated pillars, and where you need to put them up.

Objectives: To make a pillar able to withstand the weight of the bridge, you’ll need to follow these steps.

  1. Collect a log from the hill on the way up to New Hillcrest.
  2. Saw the logs into shape using the cutting machine.
  3. Plane the pillars in the plane machine to get a lovely smooth pillar.

You can buy ready-made pillars from Billy up on the square in New Hillcrest.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP, 3 perfect pillars

Reputation with Roadworks

When making a new pillar, dismount your horse to use the machines.

Return to Donald when you are finished making new pillars.

mr_bucket

These are particularly perfect pillars! Well done Rita!

Quest completed

______________

Ahoy There Sailor!

mr_bucket

Oh my, oh my, I hope a storm isn’t brewing… This bridge is so wobbly that it could just collapse at any moment. The saltwater from the sea has corroded most of the bridge’s foundations, so we’ll need to build new ones right away! Before we get started, we’ll have to collect sacks of cement so we can mix up cement for the foundations. There’s been a delivery of cement sacks to the harbor just behind the stables. You’ll no doubt see the delivery ship’s masts from here, so just head in that direction.

Objectives: Ride to the harbor in New Hillcrest. There’s a ship there that’s arrived loaded with cement for us.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation with Roadworks

The only way to get to ship is to ride up the road to Hillcrest, then down the other side of the hill, but turn before you get to the marshes. Ride around the hill to the small abandoned farmstead and down the stairs to get to the ship. Speak to the sailor there about the cement.

sailor

Ship ahoy, landlubber!

Elving’s the name. I’m a sailor here on this old ship.

You’re here to get the cement for Builder Donald, you say?

Of course! I most certainly do have a delivery of cement for Donald.

Quest completed

______________

The Bridge Building Continues…

sailor

What are you planning to do with the cement?

Ah okay, a bridge? I prefer to take a boat between two islands instead of walking, but I suppose it’s just a matter of taste.

Here’s the cement for Donald anyway. Good luck with your building project, landlubber.

Objectives: Take the cement you got from Sailor Elving and leave it with Donald by the bridge.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation with Roadworks

Return to Donald the same way that you came.

mr_bucket

Perfect, Rita!

Quest completed

______________

Hard Labor Helps you Sleep Better!

mr_bucket

This is the absolute best cement you can get anywhere on Jorvik. The quality of raw materials that go into it is going to make sure this bridge stays sturdy for many years to come. It might even be stable enough for me to think about daring to go over it. Or maybe not. I’m dizzy just thinking about it.

Whew. My legs are starting to wobble now, and my palms are sweating. Oh no! Stop it Donald!

Must think of something else instead…

Mixing cement! That’s what we were doing! We can focus on that instead. Much better. The sacks are already here thanks to you, so you just need to empty three of them into the cement mixer. Then you need to fetch some water from down at the stables. Take this bucket with you and fill it at the water supply outside the stable. Then pour the water into the cement mixer and switch it on! Then you’re done.

Objectives: In order to mix cement for the bridge’s foundations, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  1. Collect three sacks of cement.
  2. Pour the sacks into the cement mixer (in the grey funnel).
  3. Collect water from the water supply at the stable with the bucket you got from Donald.
  4. Pour the water into the cement mixer (in the blue funnel).
  5. Switch the mixer on and wait until the cement is fully mixed.
  6. Fill your bucket with cement.

You can buy ready-made cement from Billy up at the square in New Hillcrest.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP, 3 buckets of cement

Reputation with Roadworks

Follow the instructions to mix cement, then return to Donald when you are finished.

mr_bucket

You’ve got a perfect mixture of cement here! Very well done, Rita.

Quest completed

Return to Builder Donald when you have fixed all six of each pillar and cement foundation.

______________

Is the Bridge in One Piece?

mr_bucket

What a fantastic job you’ve done Rita! Making a strong start is the most important part of any building project. A strong foundation. It looks great! Oh, no! I have to look down… I’m getting dizzy again…

Ohhh….

Now one of us has to head up onto the bridge to look into what needs doing. It should be sturdy enough to walk on by now. I’d go myself, but it feels way too scary for me.

You’ll do it? That’s such a relief, more than you could ever know.

Whew.

You really think I’ll be able to walk along and deal with heights one day? I can’t really see how, but I hope I’ll be brave enough someday.

Go up onto the bridge now and inspect the floor so that we can see where we need to set out new planks.

Objectives: You need to go up onto the bridge and inspect where the planks might be broken. Once that’s done, go back to Donald and let him know what you’ve found.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation with Roadworks

Wow, this bridge is a mess, but not so much as Donald is with all his phobias. This will be a cakewalk.

mr_bucket

Wow! Good job! I’ve no idea how you can be up that high on that bridge. You’re a brave one!

Quest completed

______________

Get Away for a While

mr_bucket

How very brave you are Rita! I wish I had as much courage as you when it comes to heights.

So you’re saying the planks are completely ruined in many spots along the bridge? Oh, typical!

Would you like to know something else that’s typical? We’re all out of wood so we can’t make any more planks. I don’t know how we’re going to get around this if I’m honest…

You saw trees we could use? And we can cut them down? They’re on the other side of town?

Well, there we go then! Fantastic, we’re back on track! Rita, is there no problem you can’t solve? Ride to that spot in the woods you talked about and chop down as many trees as we need. I’ve even got an axe you can borrow!

Objectives: Ride to the outskirts of New Hillcrest and chop down a couple of trees, then ride back to Donald to drop them off.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation with Roadworks

The riding lumberjack is at it again!

mr_bucket

Nice work Rita! That’s how it should look!

Quest completed

______________

Last Phase of the Build

mr_bucket

Now we’re getting some wind in our sails! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for this project. Oh! If only it was a tunnel we were building… Tunnels don’t bother me when it comes to either heights or water…

Hmm, you still think I’ll be able to walk along the dizzy heights of the bridge? Well, thanks for the support Rita!

But now we need to get this thing finished once and for all. It’s about time we get South Hoof and New Hillcrest back together again! Take one of the logs and make planks out of it. There’s a sawing machine and the planing machine there as you know. I’ve also set up the treatment machine so that you can treat the wood in a special way that stops it from decaying in the wind and weather, helping it stand up to all the use the bridge will get. Hurry now, let’s get this done!

Objectives: To make a plank that’ll stand up to the use it’ll be getting as part of the bridge, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Collect a log from the pile next to Donald.
  2. Saw the logs into straight planks using the sawing machine.
  3. Plane the planks in the planing machine to get rid of rough edges and splinters.
  4. Treat the planks against wear and tear in the treating machine.

You can buy ready-made planks from Billy up on the square in New Hillcrest.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP, 3 perfect planks

Reputation with Roadworks

Dismount your horse to use all three of the machines, then return to Donald when you are finished.

mr_bucket

What craftsmanship Rita! The planks look wonderful. I couldn’t have done them better myself!

Quest completed

Return to Builder Donald when you have fixed all six sections of the walkway on the bridge.

______________

Who Dares Wins!

mr_bucket

You should be proud of yourself, Rita! The bridge looks wonderful from here. If only I could dare to go up along it to see what it’s like up close.

Sigh…

You think I can do it? It’s a very stable looking bridge, I must say.

But no. I don’t dare do it…

Why do I feel like this? I’m so tired of it.

You’re going to help me across to the other side of the bridge so that I can conquer my fear of heights?

Hmm…

It could work. We can give it a go, but you need to stay right next to me the whole time.

Okay? Let’s give it a try.

Gulp.

Objectives: Help Donald overcome his fear of heights by leading him across the bridge.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation with Roadworks

Walk next to Donald as he makes his way across the bridge. He needs a friend that sturdier than this fine bridge you’ve just built.

mr_bucket

I don’t dare look. Are we almost there?

Quest completed

______________

Beating Fear

mr_bucket

What? We’ve only gone a few feet along the bridge?!

Ohh, I though we were much farther along than that!

We don’t need to go the WHOLE way across to beat my fears, do we?

But the bridge is so long! You really think I’m going to be able to do this?! Thanks for being here for me Rita.

Okay, let’s try a little bit more, then.

Oooohhhhhh…!

Objectives: Continue supporting Donald, he needs you now! Help him overcome his fear of heights by leading him over the bridge.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation with Roadworks

Up you go…

We’re carrying on, you say?! S-s-s-stay c-c-cl-close then!

What a b-b-b-be-beautiful v-v-view up here…

Look at that! Is that the end of the bridge? Have we almost done it?

Wow! Let’s get the last bit done then!

I can hardly believe it! Pinch me! OW! Not so hard…

Rita, how can I ever thank you for helping me beat my biggest fear? I’m eternally grateful. Now I just need to get back over the bridge without any help. I think I can do it now!

Bernadine’s on her way here. Talk to her, because I think she said she wanted a word with you. You should be very proud of what you’ve achieved with the bridge project! It looks incredible.

Bye for now my friend! Hope to see you again soon!

Objectives: Talk to Bernadine. She wants to thank you for all your hard work!

a sloppy dock worker, a warm welcome, angus, borrowed tools, builder donald, daisy, filling the ink, forgetful angus, james, not easy with a sprained leg, one step closer, time to build, what's up with the t-shirts, where's the nails, zed

There is a new person in town in Jarlaheim. He has a shop he wants help setting up. Speak to him near the town square.

A Warm Welcome

zed

Are you the one that’s supposed to help me with my shop? Excellent!

What’s your name, by the way? Rita? Cool name! I’m Zed, and I’m the store manager of the new shop opening up in Jarlaheim. In my opinion, there’s way too little rock ‘n’ roll in these parts, so I thought I’d open up a shop with punk inspired clothing? Wouldn’t that be awesome?

I have tons of marketing work to do prior to the opening, and was hoping you could help me get this thing started?

Oh, cool! How nice of you to help me!

First I’ll show you where the store’s gonna be located. Come, let me show you!

Objectives: Find Zed, he’ll show you where the new store’s going to be located.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings 10 XP

Find Zed near the Heavy Metal Scissors salon, which is on the rear alley on the north side of Jarlaheim.

zed

Here we go! This is the spot where we’re gonna set up shop. Gonna be awesome, right?!

Let’s roll!!

Quest completed

______________

Borrowed Tools

zed

Now that you know where the stall’s gonna be, we need to get started on the assembly of it. I don’t have any tools for these things, but I know Builder Donald has plenty of tools we might have use for. Couldn’t you get over there and ask him nicely if we might borrow them?

Off you go! Have a chat with the old man and let’s hear what he has to say.

Objectives: Ask Donald about the tools you want to borrow.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Ride to the west gate and speak to Builder Donald near his house there.

mr_bucket

Hi there, Rita! You want to borrow some of my tools?

Sure you can, no problem! Let’s see… You want to borrow a hammer and a crowbar? Oh… I don’t have those at the moment.

Quest completed

______________

Forgetful Angus

mr_bucket

Angus Goldspur has them. That lazy son of a gun should have returned them ages ago, but he’s probably… Forgotten. Or something.

I recommend you speak to Angus, he shouldn’t be needing those tools any further. Travel to the Goldspur estates and hear what he has to say. Give him my regards as well, I don’t want him to think I’ve forgotten.

Ha ha! No, leave that be. I’m just yanking your chain.

Objectives: Travel to the Goldspur estates and speak to Angus about the tools.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Speak with Angus up at the Goldspur farm.

angus_goldspur

Welcome back, Rita! Been a while since I saw you, what do you want this time?

Borrow Builder Donald’s tools? I’ve almost forgotten about those trashy old tools. *cough*

Of course you can borrow them! As long as Donald has agreed to it. After all they are his, and I don’t need them any more.

Quest completed

______________

One Step Closer

angus_goldspur

So, here they are!

Now that you’ve got the tools, you should continue whatever you were doing. What was that, exactly? Oh? You’re opening a new store? Exciting! I think you should return to Zed and tell him you’ve got the tools needed to assemble this stall.

Good luck!

Objectives: Travel to Jarlaheim and speak to Zed.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Return to Zed with the tools.

zed

Nice! We’re one step closer to being finished. Excellent!

Let me just check that we have everything we need to start building.

Quest completed

______________

Where’s the Nails?

zed

Know what, Rita? What a blunder. My little noggin’s not working properly at times. I’ve lost the nails I had earlier, clever huh? I think I lost them when I carried home some tools for my dad. I was simply dragging around too much.

Oh well. Even I make blunders from time to time. At least I know I’ve lost the nails here in Jarlaheim somewhere. Have a look around and you’ll probably find them.

Objectives: Locate packs of nails in and around Jarlaheim.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Search the indicated locations to find all of the missing nails. When you have them all, return to Zed.

zed

You found them? Awesome! Then we can finally start building. It’s about time!

Quest completed

______________

Time to Build!

zed

Now that we have everything prepared, it’s time to get this thing assembled. Wish I could help you, but I suck at these things. I’m just good at music these days. Everything you need can be found in this heap, at least. Just use a hammer or whatever, and everything will be fine!

Objectives: Assemble the stall for opening.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Dismount your horse and use the tools in your inventory to build the shop stand. When you are finished, speak to Zed.

zed

Finished already? Clever girl… And fast too! This will be perfect, I think we’ll get lots of fans.

Quest completed

______________

What’s Up With the T-Shirts?

zed

We have a few things that needs to be done. I’ve ordered t-shirts for the store from our printer Daisy, who’s also my awesome girlfriend. She’s really good at fixing rad prints for clothing, we’re gonna have tons more stuff like this from her in the future. I’m really lucky to have such a skilled girlfriend who can fix me up with stuff like this!

Anyhow, I haven’t spoken to her all day, and I’d like to know how the tees are coming along. If they’re like, finished and stuff. Go speak to her. She’ll be by the cafe at the docks below Jarlaheim. Let’s hope she’s done already!

Objectives: Ask Daisy about the T-shirts.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Find Daisy at the top of the stairs coming from the ferry dock.

daisy

Hi girl, who are you? Oh, you’re working with my sweet Zed? Cool!

What’s up with the tees? Well, they’re moving along, not far from being done. The only problem is that I’ve run out of ink…

Quest completed

______________

Not Easy with a Sprained Leg

daisy

This is how it goes, Rita.

I need to get more ink, but you see, I’ve sprained my leg. Things can get pretty wild at rock concerts, but you probably don’t know what I’m talking about. Oh well. Anyhow, I’ve placed an order for ink and I think it’s been transported to the docks at Fort Pinta. Speak to the one responsible for the transport, and he’ll give you the colors.

I know it’s a bit far, but we have ferries now, why don’t you take a ride with them? They’re pretty cool, and the trip is so much faster.

There’s a ferry that goes to Fort Pinta from the docks here. If you don’t want to, you could always ride there. Do as you like, it’s just a suggestion.

It would be really nice if you helped me!

Objectives: Collect the ink in Fort Pinta.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Speak with James in Fort Pinta, he should know where the ink is.

james

Hi there!

Are you here for the ink I’m delivering to Daisy?

Quest completed

The ink is supposed to be in one of the barrels on the pier below Fort Pinta. I’ve accidentally mixed them all together, so I can’t tell which one contains your ink. But have a look around, and I’ sure you’ll find it!

Objectives: Find the right ink.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Ride down to the docks and inspect the barrels scattered around there. When you have found the one containing the ink, return to James.

james

You finally found the ink, excellent! I’m sorry for the trouble, I’ll keep better track of the barrels next time.

Filling the Ink

james

There you go, everything’s ready.

Thank you for coming so quickly. Would have been boring to wait here all day. But that didn’t happen! Return to Daisy and give her the ink, I think she needs it as quickly as possible.

So long!

Objectives: Return to Jarlaheim and give Daisy the ink.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Return to Daisy via your own preferred method and speak to her by the docks.

daisy

Oh, nice! You got the ink! Now I can finally start coloring the tees. I can safely say they’re gonna be super awesome!

It’ll take some time. The tees need to dry as well. Have patience, girl! Come back tomorrow and they’ll be done and dry. I’ll get to work straight away.

Bye for now, peace!

New Times at the Goldspur Estate

angus_goldspur

Hi Rita! Great news!

Listen to this. Filip Sunfield is buying a new horse transport, and he’s giving the old one to us! It’s really about time we got our own horse transport, don’t you think? It makes it so much easier to travel to our estate.

Could you ride over to Filip and tell him we’re ready to accept it? You can? Thanks, Rita, and please give my regards to everyone at the Sunfield farm.

Objectives: Speak to Filip Sunfield.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Ride down to the Sunfield farm, outside Jarlaheim, and speak to Filip.

filip_sunfield

Hi there, Rita. Are you here about the horse transport? I’ve already sent it off, didn’t it arrive?

Quest completed

______________

Transport Trouble

filip_sunfield

Hmm, this is odd. I sent away our old horse transport yesterday. It should have arrived already. Who drove it? Well, Jack Goldspur did.

He came by, telling us he’d heard we needed help driving off a transport, and he was ore than willing to aid. I don’t know how much he paid attention to what I said, because when he drove off, he went towards Paddock Island instead of taking the road through the city. He was going awfully fast, but I figured he knew what he was doing.

It’s probably for the best if you ride and speak to him about this. Hope everything works out.

Objectives: Speak to Jack Goldspur.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Sorry to say, but don’t get your hopes up Filip, if I know Jack Goldspur…

jack_goldspur

Howdy doody! What can I do you for?

Horse transport? That old wreck of a car wasn’t much. Doesn’t matter where it went. Who cares about that old and broken stuff anyway?

Quest completed

______________

Cars Over the Bridge

jack_goldspur

Angus cares? Ha ha! I know my brother, Rita. Tomorrow he’s forgotten all about it, believe me! You don’t? Ha ha, sure you do. It’s been like this since we were little. I mess with his things, he chases me around until he gets tired. Then he gives up, we don’t speak for a year or two, and then we make friends again. Ha ha, this is precisely like it used to be, nothing to worry about.

Don’t you want to play a game of cards or something instead? I’m crazy bored.

What? You want to know what became of Filip’s horse transport?

Well, if you have to know, it’s on the bottom of the sea. How it got there?

Ooh, that’s a super exciting tale if you ever heard one. I was supposed to drive to the Goldspur estate, but it’s such a bore driving through the city, so I decided I’d do some rally driving over Paddock Island instead. As I came down the hill leading to the bridge, I remembered the bridge is broken. You know what I did?

Precisely! You and I really think alike! There was only one thing I could do, and that was to speed jump over the broken bridge with the horse transport!!

What do you mean, “stupid?” It was awesome! However, it didn’t go very well. The care was useless for jumping and I went straight into the water. It was sheer luck I managed to climb on land again. But it was awesome! Too bad nobody videotaped it… It would’ve been perfect for J-Tube.

What do you mean, “fix it?” Angus can just buy a new horse transport!

How expensive can they be?! I can’t be bothered discussing this any more, I need to be doing something fun instead.

Objectives: Speak to Jill Goldspur.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Inform Jill of her brother’s shenanigans.

jill_goldspur

Hi, Rita. What has Jack done now?

Right. He’s driven Angus’s new horse transport into the sea. Just perfect…

Quest completed

______________

Inspecting the Site of the Accident

jill_goldspur

What now, then? Do you think we can retrieve the horse transport from the bottom of the sea? Doubtfully, you say? I agree, but we better try first. I don’t want to waste a whole lot of Jorvik Shillings of the tax payers’ money to buy a new hose transport if unnecessary. It’s vexing that my brothers keep fighting all te time. It would be for the best if we could fix this ourselves.

Ride there and see if you can think of a way to get the horse transport out of the water.

Objectives: Inspect the area where the horse transport went off the broken bridge. Return afterwards to Jill Goldspur.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

The broken bride is located on the southeast side of Jarlaheim. Ride out onto the bride and look in the water to inspect the sunken transport.

Return to Jill when you have finished your inspection.

jill_goldspur

So, how did it look?

You think we can get it out? If we find the right equipment? Who might have that?

Quest completed

______________

Expert on Heaving Lifting

jill_goldspur

Builder Donald. Have you met him, Rita?

You have? Excellent. He’s probably the best suited to help us with this kind of problem. I wouldn’t know how to approach the issue, but at least he has access to the sort of equipment we might be needing.

Speak to him and see if he has any suggestions on what to do.

Objectives: Speak to Builder Donald.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Builder Donald can be found at his house near the gate across from Gavin.

mr_bucket

Hi there, Rita. Long time no see.

Quest completed

______________

Heavy Lifting Needs Heavy Machinery

mr_bucket

Hi there, Rita! What can I do for you?

Salvage a car from the bottom of the sea? That doesn’t sound like an easy job… What happened? Jack has driven a horse transport into the sea by the broken bridge?!

Wow… This one will be challenging. But you really helped me out with the bridge repairs last time, so I’ll do my best to help you in return!

Hmm…

Meet me down by the broken bridge and you’ll see we can fix this together. I’ll get there right away and rig my machines and appliances.

Objectives: Speak to Builder Donald at the spot where the horse transport lies in the water.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

See you there!

mr_bucket

Have you seen this, Rita? With this beauty, I’m sure we’ll salvage that car in no time!

Quest completed

______________

From Sea to Land

mr_bucket

So, are we ready to get this car out of the water or what?

I need your help, you see. To be able to lift the whole car with tow and all, we need to fasten the hook to the crane to the car somehow. Ride down to the bridge and fasten the hook. Call on me after and I’ll pull the car out.

Objectives: Fasten the hook to the horse transport.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Dismount your horse to connect the hook. Speak to Builder Donald when it is set.

mr_bucket

This went well. The horse transport is on land, a bit wet perhaps, but on land nonetheless.

Quest completed

______________

The Last Leg is Always the Hardest

mr_bucket

Hmm… This car doesn’t appear to be working anymore. That’s understandable, if you ask me. You know what, Rita? Since I already have all my appliances here, I’ll tow this thing over to Angus. He was the one that was supposed to have it, right?

No worries. I’ll just tow it after my bulldozer, and I’ll be there in a jiffy. Meet me there!

Objectives: Meet Builder Donald by the upper mill on the Goldspur estate.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Ride up to the Goldspur farm and speak with Builder Donald there.

mr_bucket

The horse transport is in place! What do you think? This is a good spot for it, right?

Quest completed

______________

Finally There

mr_bucket

I need to get going, Rita. Give Angus the good news that the horse transport finally is in place, will you? The bad news being that it doesn’t work any more, of course. But he’s quite the handyman, he can probably fix it.

I’ll just wrap everything up and head for town, I’ll see you there sometime!

Objectives: Speak to Angus Goldspur.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Tell Angus you have saved his horse transport.

angus_goldspur

Hi, Rita. What’s going on with the horse transport? It’s here?! YES! Finally the Goldspurs have their own horse transport!

Why do you look so miffed?

Quest completed

______________

A Decent Crowbar Fixes All Problems

angus_goldspur

Okay. This was typical… The horse transport is completely broken…

But, I don’t give up this easily! Do you hear, Rita? I’ll fix this horse transport good, I promise you that!!

Though, I need your help, Rita. Idun has forbidden me to fix more stuff since I tried to repair our old plow. I left that thing in a state of itty bitty crumbs, I’m afraid… My patented method of repair didn’t quite succeed on that one. BUT, I’ll teach you how to repair things Angus Goldspur’s way, and then you can fix it instead!

You do like this. Take this nice crowbar and whack the horse transport all over the place where it looks broken. It’s all about scaring the thing into operating mode!

Come back when you get it running again, Rita.

Objectives: Use the crowbar to repair the horse transport. Afterwards, speak to Angus Goldspur.

Rewards: 1000 Jorvik Shillings, 100 XP, Summer Blouse

Dismount your horse to use the crowbar on the places indicated by Angus. Whack it good, now.

Return to him when you have hit it in all the right places.

angus_goldspur

Look Rita, my method really works! This was the first time as a matter of fact, but I knew it! With a decent crowbar you can fix all kinds of problems!

Thank you. Thank you very much. You can use our horse transport as often as you like, and you’re also welcome to visit anytime you like.

Bye then!

Quest completed

Visit Morgana when you are Admired with the Goldspur Family.

mr_bucket

I just thought of something, Rita!

You like horses, don’t you? I though so, I’m pretty clever sometimes! I don’t know exactly how I knew it, it must have been some subtle clues about you that I picked up on.

You know, Jarlaheim is right beside Jorvik Stables. Jorvik Stables is the most famous stable on Jorvik. You have to go and visit it. I promise you won’t regret it! If you see Herman, the guy who runs the stables, give him my best!

You need to go now? Okay, I understand. You are going to speak with the man who was waving from the other side of the bridge? Did you see him?

Talk to him. He looked like he wanted something.

But the bridge is fixed now? Is it really true?

One Stop on the Way

ed_field

I’ll help you get to Jorvik Stables, but first you need to help me a little bit first. What? Extortion?

Why would I do anything like that?

Nah… You help me and I’ll help you. This is just exchange of services. Please! I really need your help and I can’t do it myself. Please, please, please!

You will? Thank you, thank you!

Okay. First I’ll need a pen and paper to write down all the thinks we need to do. I don’t remember exactly where I put them… But they are somewhere around here. Can you find them for me?

Objectives: Fetch a pen and some paper for Ed Field. They are nearby.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Collect the pen and paper that are sitting around near the inn and bring them to Ed.

ed_field

Excellent! Now I am going to write up a list of everything that we need to get done. I feel like my brain might explode!

What is your name? Rita? This is going to be great, Rita!

Quest completed

The Fuel Tank

ed_field

Hmm…

What to write… Where to begin… There’s so much…

Completely still… My brain is running on maximum rev but I can’t seem to change gears… Oh, oh, oh…

You! Fetch my thinking hat! How could I forget? It won’t work without it!

It must be somewhere nearby, but I can’t remember where I put it… If I search down here, you can check out the height over there, okay?

Objectives: Fetch Ed Field’s thinking hat which he has misplaced somewhere on the height behind the inn.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 15 with Wolf Hall Inn

Ride around and search for Ed’s hat, then return to him when you have found it.

ed_field

Look! There’s my sweet hat! Now I’m gonna think insanely well!

There we go. Now it’s sitting as it should. Are you ready? Ready for a truckload of amazing ideas? Excited to behold the hatching of the next Nobel Prize theory? Sit back and enjoy the world’s foremost one-man brainstormer. NO. Brainhurricaner!!

Okay. Okay. The brain is picking up cyclone speed! Hold on!

Hmm… The first thin we’ll need is a modern name. Something cool, globally, luxurious, a little family friendly, a little organic…

Mmm… Wait, don’t disturb me…

I GOT IT!

WOLF HALL INN!

BEAUTIFUL! What a perfect name! It reminds me of what the inn was called once, but it’s brand new and fresh at the same time? This will be perfect!

NICE!

Quest completed

Weeding for the Guests

ed_field

Wow… No I’m exhausted… It’s an effort to think of all these great ideas, and there is still so much to do…

You can help? How very kind!

Okay. It’s very kind of you and I won’t keep you much longer, I promise. You’ve seen all the weeds and stuff that grows here, right? It’s frightening off the customers. Here’s my old chainsaw, borrow it and clear away all the thistles and things.

Objectives: Remove any undergrowth around the inn with the chainsaw.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Wolf Hall Inn

Dismount your horse to use the chainsaw. Clear all the weeds around the inn, then return to Ed.

ed_field

Wow! What a difference it made! Now everything looks top fresh!

Quest completed

The New Jorvikian Kitchen

ed_field

You know, one problem with Wolf Hall In is that we’re stuck in past times… Look at this old menu I found.

This won’t work, it’s food for the 00’s!

If we’re going to put Wolf Hall Inn on the map, we have to spice up the menu! I can think up some amazing dishes if I just get some inspiration.

Search for exciting ingredients that I can create great dishes with, and I’ll use my thinking hat to brainhurricane forth a three star menu in no time.

Okay? Good! In the meantime, I’ll wait here and stretch mentally. I don’t want to pull my brain, you see. It’s been a while since I thought this heavy thoughts.

Objectives: Find ingredients for new and exciting dishes that can be served at the inn.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Wolf Hall Inn

Organic is the way to go these days. Search around the inn for all natural ingredients, then return to Ed.

ed_field

Let’s see. This will be perfect. I can feel the inspiration flowing. Hold on, a cyclone is brewing in my brain again!

Listen!

Starter: Ed Field’s rare summerchops on a bed of noodles in tomato sauce.

Main course: Fried corn balls a la Summerblaze. Served with an exciting salad made of the neighbors’ fruits and the finest American sauces.

Dessert: Surprise, Rita. A lovely brown sorbet, made with gifts from the king of the forest, with crispy meat sauce on a mirror of freshly harvested corn. Served with hot red sauce.

I’m a genius! A fresh crossover mix of traditional Jorvikian kitchen, inspired by American food, but with a touch of Asia and honest, classic European finesse. A truckload of NICE!

Hey!

Hey, you know what?

I’m opening this place. I can’t wait any longer. WOLF HALL INN IS OPEN!

Quest completed

______________

Through Mountain, Through Forest

ed_field

Thank you for your aid, Rita. Now I will keep my promise and tell you how to get to Jorvik Stables.

Ride like this. Continue on the road due west and take a left at the mountain pass. Continue through the mountain pass and into Greendale Forest. Keep to the road and you’ll soon see the coast again. There you’ll see a small cottage where the Pike family live.

They usually deliver fish and seafood to the inn, so while you’re there you might as well deliver Mrs Pike this order from me. Can you do it?

Awesome! People can certainly rely on you, Rita.

Here, take my chainsaw with you. The road through the mountain pass has become overgrown, so you need to cut through the shrubbery to get through.

Tell Mrs Pike to show you the rest of the way to Jorvik Stables once you see her.

Good luck Rita, we’ll meet again!

Objectives: Clear away the bushes blocking the passage to Greendale and speak to Mrs Pike living by the coast.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Ride up the road to Greendale. Dismount your horse to clear all of the brush. When it is all clear, continue riding through Greendale Forest. You will see Mrs Pike at the end of the road.

mrs_pike

Hello there, who are you?

I haven’t seen anyone on the road through Greendale Valley in a very long time…

Quest completed

______________

Unwelcome Message in a Bottle

mrs_pike

Could you help me with something while you’re here?

It happens to be that the road south is closed now. I don’t really know why, but a year ago our neighbor Harold put up a fence between our lands. We’ve always gotten along well, but suddenly, overnight, there was a fence there! We haven’t heard from him since, only seen him from a distance, where he walks over his field with a sunken head. I’ve called upon him, but he hasn’t even looked in my direction.

Besides our broken friendship, it has caused other problems. For instance, bottles from his bottling plant have started to float ashore on our beach. I don’t know why he’s throwing the bottles into the sea, but could you ride down to the beach below and pick up all the bottles you can find?

Thanks, that was kind of you!

Objectives: Pick up the beached bottles and bring them to Mrs Pike.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

What a shame…

Ride down on the beach and pick up all the bottles. Return to Mrs Pike with the bottles.

mrs_pike

Thanks, that was kind of you. I guess I should tell the Council about this issue, but something tells me our neighbor Harold has enough problems for now. Something must have happened, it’s not normal for someone to shield themselves from the world like this…

Quest completed

______________

Further Towards Jorvik Stables

mrs_pike

An order from the inn? That’s good, we really need the income now that the road down south is closed as well. That Ed Field has a nose for business, it’s be a boost for the entire county if he gets the inn up and running again.

You want to go to Jorvik Stable? Well, just continue along the coast due west until you reach Jarlaheim. Ride through the city and you’ll soon see the stable.

However, if you’re going to Jarlaheim, talk to Jack Goldspur by the City Hall, he’s the city’s new mayor. I’m just not sure if Jack is the right man for the job. He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, if you get my drift. Hehe. Luckily his sister Jill helps him at least. They really need all the help they can get, so talk to Jack to see if there is anything you can do. The whole county would appreciate if if you could help the city back on its feet.

Alright, I won’t take up more of your precious time. Ride west on the main road, that’s all you really need to know.

Objectives: Ride along the coast to Jarlaheim and speak to Jack Goldspur.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Follow the road west to Jarlaheim. Ride into the city center and you’ll find the large City Hall past the town square and water fountain. Speak with Jack in front of the City Hall.

jack_goldspur

Howdy doody! I’m Jack Goldspur. It’s nice with a new face in town. So, who are you?

Quest completed

______________

The Reluctant Mayor

jack_goldspur

Hey Rita, welcome to Jarlaheim! Pride of Southern Jorvik and the world’s favorite place! What can I do for you, Rita?

You need to see Herman?

Okay.

That was terribly typical. That’s like the only thing I can’t help you with. Herman is gone, disappeared, nowhere to be found! When I need him the most, he goes on vacation! Do you have any idea how much trouble that causes me?

Why do I need Herman? Well, I happen to be the mayor of Jarlaheim, a very honorable duty! Why me? No one else wanted it, so Herman asked me if I would accept this respectable position. Excellent, I thought. As mayor I’ll get to experience fine dining, movie premieres, cool parties, and lots of nice gifts all the time!

But it isn’t at all like that! I’m just shuffling paper all day, how boring is that! I told Herman, but he said I should be proud of the responsibility, work hard and be a role model for the city residents.

Responsibility? Leadership? Role model? Bah! Yuck! Fie! You hear for yourself how incredibly boring it is…

I’ve tried to get a hold of Herman to get him to withdraw this worthless job, but I can’t because he’s on vacation. I’m stuck!

However, you can’t fool this guy that easily. Listen closely. I’ve come up with an awesome idea! I’ve called for election, because I’m quitting.

Someone else can take over this drudging job. Ha!

What? Oh, yes. What did you want, Rita? Get to Jorvik Stables?

I know Johanna who works at Jorvik Stables. If you help me with my awesome plan, I’ll call and tell her that you need to get a hold of Herman. She might be able to help you. Do we have a deal? Good!

Take these ballots for the new election and pass them out here in the city, and I’ll prepare the next step of my plan. You should take the opportunity to check out the city in the meantime. See ya!

Objectives: Pass out the ballots for the new election in the city.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

TL;DR, Jack is a big whiner and gets you to help him get out of doing actual work. That’s about all there is to him. No depth of character here, carry on…

Post all of the ballots into the mailboxes located around the city, then return to Jack when you are finished.

jack_goldspur

Did it go well? Nice!

Okay, now it’s time to start the next part of the plan. We have to find new candidates for this money job. I’ve already spoken to the most eligible, but they weren’t willing when I asked them. However, if you do it instead, then they’ll have to say yes!

I should have asked if they wanted to set up before you handed out the ballots? Oh! It’s these kind of boring rules and stuff that makes me not want this money job, get it?

Quest completed

______________

To Paddock Island with Inquiries

jack_goldspur

Alright. The first candidate that people can vote for is Dorith Jarlasson of Paddock Island, the head of the Jarlasson family. She’s always been a calm and quiet person, working hard all her life. She’s very interested in the history of the Harvest Counties and is passionate about the city. In short, she is super boring, drier than the Sahara, and thus perfect for the job!

Sigh. What if my mom hadn’t disappeared without a trace. My mother?

Yes, Evelyn Goldspur, the real mayor. One day, a few months ago, she just vanished and nobody has heard a peep from her since. Everyone has been looking all over for her, but there is no trace of her. Crazy mysterious!

We’ll have to talk about that another time. Ride off and talk to Dorith on Paddock Island now. Ask her nicely Rita, and fingers crossed she’ll accept!

Objectives: Ask Dorith Jarlasson on Paddock Island if she wants to run for election.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Losing your mother still doesn’t make me feel bad for you. Honest work is good for you, Jack…

Ride out to Paddock Island, and you’ll find Dorith walking around close to the farmhouse.

dorith_jarlasson

Run for mayor? I’ve already told Jack I wasn’t going to…

Quest completed

______________

Dorith Jarlasson as Mayor?

dorith_jarlasson

You can tell Jack I won’t run for election. We have too much to do here at the farm, so many difficult things have happened.

It’s so sad about Evelyn. It’s hard to imagine a better mayor. One day everything was normal, and the next she was vanished. What happened?

The only think I know is that she was attending the inauguration of the opening of G.E.D’s new mine in the mountains, but she obviously never made it. Ms Drake got in touch during the evening and wondered why Evelyn hadn’t attended the ceremony, apparently she was going to sue the city for insult and lost marketing opportunities or something.

You’ll have to ask someone else, I was so busy here at the farm, I hardly know any details.

Give Jack my regards and tell him to find someone else.

Objectives: Ride back to Jack.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Go back to Jarlaheim and give Jack the news.

jack_goldspur

Sigh. So Dorith, that old carcass, didn’t want to run? Typical.

Quest completed

______________

Dad as Mayor

jack_goldspur

The next guy that would be perfect is my dad, Jakob Goldspur. He would be an awesome mayor. He’s very clever and he helped my mother a lot when she was the mayor.

Ask my dad if he would like to run. He’s said no like a hundred times in the past, but if you were the one to ask him, he might change his mind.

He should actually run! If he hadn’t told me to be the mayor, I’d never taken the job, no matter how cool Herman said it was. But, I’m a guy who does what his parents tell him. Besides not going to school and having parties at home… But other than that I’m an awesome son, get it?

Good luck Rita, keeping my fingers crossed for you, super hard!

Objectives: Ask Jack Goldspur if he would like to run for office.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Ride up to the farm near the windmill and speak with Jakob walking around in the area.

jakob_goldspur

Ooohh! I’ve told Jack a hundred times I won’t run!

Quest completed

______________

Jakob Isn’t Interested

jakob_goldspur

Why won’t Jack give up? I’ve told him a hundred times I don’t want to be mayor. It’s too painful to take the job which my lovely wife used to have. I would be reminded of her every day, I couldn’t bear it.

Do you know what happened? No? Right, you’re new in the county. My wife, Evelyn Goldspur, was mayor in Jarlaheim. She made the city prosper and everyone loved her. Then, one day, she vanished. I waved goodbye to her in the morning, and the only thing I know is that she was going to the opening ceremony of G.E.D’s new mine in the evening. But apparently she never showed, and nobody knows where she went. What I think?

I don’t know… It’s strange we didn’t find a single clue, and no one has seen her since she left office in the city… I know she lives. If something had happened, I’d know it.

Sigh. Tell my son he’ll have to find some other mayor.

Objectives: Ride back to Jack.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

More bad news for Jack…

jack_goldspur

Sigh. So dad won’t run? Typical.

Educated, Somber, and Boring is Perfect!

jack_goldspur

Sigh. What if my mom was here Rita? She would know exactly what to do about this.

Okay, talk to Filip Sunfield then. He’s the same age as I am, but goody-goody, educated, and incredibly boring. He seems to be precisely the kind of guy people in this city like.

Nah, I haven’t talked to him. He doesn’t seem he takes me seriously, so I figured there was no point. But maybe you’ll have more luck with him?

Make an attempt in any case, okay? Ask Filip Sunfield if he would run for office. Good luck and stuff.

Objectives: Ask Filip Sunfield if he would run for office.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

The Sunfield farm is between Jorvik Stables and Jarlaheim. You’ll find Filip there.

filip_sunfield

Hey there! Who are you? Rita. Nice to meet you, my name is Filip, and I run the Sunfield farm with my family. If I want to be mayor?

Quest completed

______________

Not While There is Still a Chance

filip_sunfield

No, Rita, I can’t run for the office of mayor. Evelyn was a good friend and I know in my heart she still lives. If I took her seat as mayor, it would be to admit her death, and I can’t do that.

What happened? I do’t know… She was here for the lunch the same day and everything seemed normal. She was attending the inauguration of G.E.D’s new mine in the evening and it sounded to her she didn’t look much forward to it. She and Ms Drake, head of Jarlaheim G.E.D. didn’t see eye to eye, but she was attending nevertheless, as the city’s representative.

I’m sorry, Rita. Tell Jack he’ll have to find someone else.

Objectives: Ride back to Jack.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Oh poop, looks like Jack is stuck with some dependable employment… Darn…

jack_goldspur

Sigh. Filip didn’t want to be mayor. How typical.

Quest completed

Return to Jack tomorrow.

Let’s see if Jack’s sister, Jill, has anything actually productive to do.

Unwilling to Sign

jill_goldspur

Good day. With whom am I speaking? Rita.

Rita, how lovely to meet you. I noticed you were talking to my brother Jack. He isn’t… How should I put this? He doesn’t have the necessary capability to function as mayor. But our father insisted he should take the job! I’m guessing he wants Jack to grow up and learn to take responsibility. Things are like they are now. Jack is the mayor and I’m trying to salvage the situation, as usual.

I apologize, I will not bore you with our family affairs. But as you understand, I’m busy trying to get Jack to do what he should.

Would you be able to help me with a little something? You would? Thanks, Rita.

It’s very simple. Jan Jarlasson submitted an application for a building permit several weeks ago. It’s routine work and Jack should have signed off on the application the same day it arrived. Could you get him to sign off on this paper? When I ask him he just waves it away.

Objectives: Ask Jack to sign off on Jan Jarlasson’s building permit application.

You want me to sign off on Jan Jarlosson’s building permit application? Oohh! Can’t it wait?! It’s so incredibly boring to shuffle paper and stuff, why must I do this?

Can’t we play a video game or something instead, Rita?

Only one paper? You promise? Okay. Since you helped me handing out those ballots, I’ll be nice to you. Okay, here’s the pen.

So. Now my name is on the paper. This is so incrediblyyyy booooring!

You get why I’m trying to do as little as possible, right?

Objectives: Give the signed application to Jill.

jill_goldspur

Did Jack sign it?

Fantastic! Jan Jarlasson will be happy. Hmm. Know what, Rita? I believe you’ll be of great help here in the city. I’ll keep an eye out for more issues the residents need help with. I’ll let you know if anything comes up.

Speak with Builder Donald near the broken bridge in Nilmer’s Highland. He will assist you with repairing the bridge so that you can cross to Harvest Counties.

All of these quests can be completed in a day by purchasing the needed materials from Bulldozer Billy at the G.E.D. construction site in Moorland. If you cannot afford to purchase extra materials, or choose not to, these quests will take 6 days to complete.

A Way Over the Water

mr_bucket

Stop! Halt! You can’t ride over the bridge… Wait a little.

Whew. It was lucky I managed to stop you. That could have gone very badly… Are you on your way to the Harvest Counties? I’m sorry… But that isn’t going to happen right now. Why?

Well… I have good news and bad news. The bad news is the bridge is broken… Completely wrecked after the last winter. When the ice broke up the bridge almost ripped off and a big hole opened up in the center of the bridge. It is completely impossible to gt across right now.

The good news is that I am here to fix the bridge! So, soon we should have it all fixed up so you can ride right over whenever you like.

I am Master Builder Donald, and who might you be? Very nice to meet you Rita.

How long is it going to take? Hrmm… Honestly this will probably take a while. I didn’t know that the bridge was so high… I really don’t like heights, you understand. Just inspecting the damage to the bridge is very difficult for me…

You can do it? Wow, that is really kind of you! Ride out and see how bad the damage is and come back and let me know.

Objectives: Ride out on the broken bridge and inspect it.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Inspect the couple places on the bridge, then return to Builder Donald.

mr_bucket

How did it look?

Uh oh. There seems to be a lot to do… Boards that are missing, beams that need to be refastened, mortar that is rotting away, and it is also completely unstable. I’m not sure I’m brave enough to walk out on it… So how am I going to fix it?

You are going to help? Wow… Thank you. You are so nice!

Quest completed

______________

A Plan to Go By

mr_bucket

Okay, it is time to get going then! You know, if we repair the bridge then I can finally go home to Jarlaheim too! I haven’t been home since the winter, you understand. Why didn’t I take the ferry? Well… Let’s just say I don’t really like boats… Water higher than my ankles just isn’t for me! It is a good thing I have a shower instead of a bathtub or I might not even be able to wash myself!

But now we are going to have to repair the bridge. I think we need to start off with looking at the blueprints for the bridge. That way we will know how it was built from the beginning. A good idea, right? You think so too?

Great!

Go look and see if you can find the blueprint in my truck, Rita. I’m not exactly sure where I put it… But it is here somewhere. Come back when you find it so we can get started on really fixing the bridge!

Objectives: Look in Builder Donald’s truck for a blueprint. Bring it back to him when you find it.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Search around near the large dumptruck. When you find the blueprint, return to Builder Donald.

mr_bucket

Did you find the blueprint? You did? Great. Let’s get started!

Quest completed

______________

The First Step to a Repaired Bridge

mr_bucket

Hmm… Now we need to take a look at the blueprint.

Hrmm… What do you think, Rita? Where should we start?

With the floor of the bridge? That sounds about right. If there is no bridge floor, then nobody is going to be able to get across to the Harvest Counties.

Okay. Then I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that I forgot to bring the boards to build with… Okay, well not exactly forgot… But they are so high up on the shelf in the warehouse that I wasn’t able to climb up the ladder to get them.

The good news is that I have all the machines we need to make our own boards. Good, right? They were down on the floor of the warehouse, so I brought them instead. The saw, the planer, and the treatment machine. Everything is in the boxes behind the truck.

Okay. We are all set. But the machines are not put together yet. Here, take this toolbox and put together the machines. Come back when you are done.

Objectives: Use the toolbox to assemble the three tools behind the truck.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Dismount your horse to use the toolbox on each shipping crate. When all three machines are built, return to Builder Donald.

mr_bucket

Well done Rita!

Now the machines are done, we can begin to make boards for the bridge.

Quest completed

______________

A Board’s Humble Beginning

mr_bucket

There we go. Now we are almost started, Rita! I can almost taste the salty air from the harbor in Jarlaheim! I really miss home. But, back to work! Now we need some logs to make boards out of. Where do I have logs? Hmm… I think I might have forgotten to bring any logs here.

Do you know where we might be able to find some logs around here Rita? At the abandoned farm between here and Moorland there are logs nobody wants? That sounds perfect!

But, they need to be good quality logs. Ride over and bring a log back here. I’ll inspect it to make sure we can use it.

Objectives: Collect a log for Builder Donald by the abandoned farm between the bridge and Moorland Stables.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Pick up a log from the pile outside the fence around the abandoned farm. When you have the log, return to Builder Donald.

mr_bucket

This log looks great. Let me have a closer look…

Hmm…

Yep. Logs like this will be perfect to make boards from. But I need this one myself… The handbrake on my truck is not working properly. If I put this right in front of my front wheels, then I won’t have to worry about my truck rolling off down the hill, which will probably never happen, but I will still walk around worrying about it.

Anyways, great work!

Quest completed

You can now do daily quests to make logs to build on the bridge. When you have made the logs, go down onto the bridge and place the logs in the specified area. You must complete the first daily quest to be able to purchase additional logs from Bulldozer Billy.

The Repairs Continue

mr_bucket

There, I can see that you have placed out some of the boards. That was very good. Now we should start with the next repairs. We need to be sure that the beams that hold the bridge up are properly attached to each other. For this we need nails, lots of nails!

The good news is that I had lots of nails in my truck. The bad news is that they fell out of the back on the way here… It was so bumpy they just flew out all over the place.

But I think we should be able to collect the nails we need pretty quickly.  Then we can get back to fastening the beams again. Or maybe you can do it? I don’t think I can manage to go out on the bridge at all.

Ride out to the road to Moorland Stables and see if you can find all the nails that fell off the truck Rita. Good luck!

Objectives: Look for the lost nails along the road to Moorland Stables.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Ride around the abandoned farm and pick up all of the lost nails, then return to Builder Donald.

mr_bucket

Did you find the nails, Rita? You did? Great! Why do you look so unhappy? Almost all of them are bent? Oh no.

What should we do?

Quest completed

______________

The Smith and the Nails

mr_bucket

Hey there, Rita. We really need new nails to be able to fix the bridge. If we only have these bent nails, it is going to take a very long time to fasten the beams so they are properly attached.

You know this part of Jorvik. Do you have any ideas where we might get some new nails in Moorland?

The blacksmith? He can make nails? You say he can make anything? Okay. We don’t really have a choice, but I’m hoping he can make nails as good as the industrial ones I brought with me. It might be more than he can manage.

I trust you. I hope it goes well. We’ll see you later!

Objectives: Ride over and ask Conrad Marsdeen, the blacksmith in Moorland, about making some nails.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Well, you don’t know Conrad, then, sir. I did say he can make anything!

Ride down to the forge and speak to Conrad about making some extra special nails for the bridge.

conrad_marsdeen

Greetings, Rita.

Nails?

You want to have simple, normal nails? This is a little below my level of craftsmanship, Rita…

Quest completed

______________

The Best Nails in the World

conrad_marsdeen

Well. I accept your assignment, Rita. I can make some nails for you so that you can fix the bridge to the Harvest Counties. Some of the world’s finest metal is mined from the Grey Dew Mountain, and it is a noble cause to restore a safe pathway to Jarlaheim and Jorvik Stables.

Listen to me, Rita. These will be the most amazing nails that Jorvik has ever seen. You will be able to fasten anything together with these nails and they will never loosen. I swear it.

But to begin a masterwork, we need raw material and only the best will do.

Ride to the Demascus Mine and break off some iron ore I can use. Ride over and come back when you have enough.

Objectives: Break off some iron ore in the Demascus Mine and return to Conrad.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Ride into the mine behind the forge and dismount your horse. Approach the lumps of stone and use the pickaxe to collect ore off of them. Return to Conrad when you have enough iron.

conrad_marsdeen

This ore is exactly what I need to make the very best nails.

Quest completed

______________

Nails with the Power of Garnok

conrad_marsdeen

Greetings, Rita. Your nails are almost ready. But to finish them, I need the last and most important ingredient, ash from the Garnok Volcano.

Rita, near me is an unmarked and simple box. The box contains the most powerful ash in the world, ash from the Garnok Volcano. This dust is what is going to transform your nails from farmers into kings.

Bring me the box, Rita and be careful. I went through great hardship to bring home that box.

Objectives: Fetch the box with the Garnok ask for Conrad.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

These aren’t your normal farmer nails. These are KING nails, and require you address them as such…

conrad_marsdeen

Pick up the box next to the fence and bring it to Conrad.

Good, Rita. Now let’s forge the nails.

Quest completed

You can now do daily quests to make nails to build on the bridge. When you have made the nails, go down onto the bridge and place the nails in the specified area. You must complete the first daily quest to be able to purchase additional  nails from Bulldozer Billy.

At this point, if you choose not to purchase additional materials, you must wait until the next day to be able to complete the daily quests for more materials.

Sealing the Bridge

mr_bucket

Now the beams are securely fastened, Rita! You know what? When the bridge is whole again, I am going to go back to Jarlaheim as fast as I can. The only stop I am going to make is t the inn on the other side of the bridge. I wonder if it is still open? The bridge collapsing must have been a disaster for them.

But anyways, back to work. It is time for us to start with the next step of the repairs. We need to seal the bridge properly so it doesn’t suffer any future cracks or ice damage again.

Unfortunately, we can’t start right away… How can I put this nicely? I guess I could say I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that I have received extra money fro the council to use only ecological material in the construction, so I had lots of wonderful vegetation based caulking. Good right?

Unfortunately, now the caulking is all gone. It was on the back of the truck, but when I looked five minutes ago, it wasn’t there anymore! Someone must have taken it.

Wait. Look over there! It looks like some of the caulking on the ground. The bag must have leaked. It is a clue, Rita! Follow the clues and find the thief!

Objectives: Follow the trail of caulking and find the thief. Return to Builder Donald later.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Follow the trail of the caulking. When you find the culprit, return to Builder Donald to report.

mr_bucket

What? Birds had eaten up the caulking? Yes, it did contain lots of sunflower seed. But it was a whole bag! How did they manage to fly away with it? It was a lot of birds? Yes… Birds can be pretty clever, you know. They must have all helped to fly away with it, I guess. It sounds really strange doesn’t it?

Anyways, it is what it is… Does this mean I won’t get to see my beautiful Jarlaheim again?

How are we going to get caulking now, Rita?

Hrmm. I have no idea what to do. How am I going to get home to Jarlaheim? You know from y house I can hear the horses at Jorvik Stables in the morning. It would be wonderful to be able to hear them again. Sigh…

Quest completed

______________

Most Ecological in Moorland

mr_bucket

What? You can make caulking? Okay. How?

Mrs Holdsworth? No, I’m not familiar with her unfortunately. She is good with anything ecologic? Okay. I don’t really know, but we don’t really have a choice. If you think this is a good idea then you should just ride over and ask her.

Good luck, Rita!

Objectives: Ride over and speak with Mrs Holdsworth about caulking.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Ride down to Mrs Holdsworth’s house and ask her about making ecological caulking.

mrs_holdsworth

Ecological caulking? Hmm… I haven’t made that before… But it sounds exciting.

Quest completed

______________

Base for a Good Paste

mrs_holdsworth

So, we need to make some caulking to repair the bridge between the Harvest Counties and Nilmer’s Highland? It would be fantastic to be able to travel to Jorvik Stables again, I’ll help you!

This is an old recipe for caulking that I learned from my old grandma. In my family it has been used both as caulking and as a topping for sandwiches, it is delicious actually. Even if it sticks to the roof of your mouth… But this is a secret family recipe, so you have to promise me not to share it with anyone else. Do you promise?

Okay. The first thing we need to do is cook up a base for the caulking. I have a few ingredients here, but we will have to go get the rest out in nature. The plants we need are here and there around Moorland and shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Objectives: Find the plants around Moorland that Mrs Holdsworth needs to make the caulking.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Ride around near Mrs Holdsworth’s house and collect the plants she needs for the caulking base. When you have all of them return to her.

mrs_holdsworth

Great, Rita. These are perfect. Now we can start to cook them up.

Quest completed

______________

A Barrel of Oats Ordered

mrs_holdsworth

Doesn’t that smell wonderful? That is the base for the caulking cooking in my pot in the kitchen. So now we need to add the final ingredients to the mix so it will become perfect ecological caulking.

The first thing I need is a barrel of oats. I won’t need all of it at once, but it is a big bridge, so we should order enough that we have some to make more later. In Moorland Stables, there are barrels of oats all over the place. Thomas has said that I can take as many as I need, so please ride over and pick one up for me.

Come back here when you have collected the barrel. Good luck!

Objectives: Bring a barrel of oats from Moorland Stables to Mrs Holdsworth.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Go into the courtyard or near the stables and collect one of the barrels that are sitting around. Return to Mrs Holdsworth with it.

mrs_holdsworth

Excellent Rita, now we have the oats we need and some for later.

Quest completed

You can now do daily quests to make caulking to build on the bridge. When you have made the caulking, go down onto the bridge and place the caulking in the specified area. You must complete the first daily quest to be able to purchase additional  caulking from Bulldozer Billy.

At this point, if you choose not to purchase additional materials, you must wait until the next day to be able to complete the daily quests for more materials.

Last Part of the Repairs

mr_bucket

This is going really well. Now we need to keep going, it is only the last stage of the repairs left. Come on now Rita, together we can get this done! Soon you will be able to ride over the bridge, through Greendale, out to the coast and all the way to Jarlaheim and Jorvik Stables

Now, the last thing we will need to do is fasten the cables to the pillars that hold up the bridge, but right now they are still too unstable. To make this work, we need to solidify the foundation first and when that is done we can connect the cables between the pillars and the foundation.

So, first we will need to mark off where the foundation should be. Take these marking sticks and put them down in the ground in the right spots.

Objectives: Stick the marking sticks in the ground close to Builder Donald.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

See, it’s funny because they are actually twigs. We don’t need those fancy GPS thingamajigs…

(Also, Chrome recognizes ‘thingamajig’ as a real word… Ha!)

When you have placed the sticks, return to Builder Donald.

mr_bucket

Excellent. Now we can begin to fix the foundations!

Quest completed

______________

Cement Lesson, Part One

mr_bucket

Now it is time to begin to build the foundations. For that we need cement. So, now we have come to mixing the cement. I have both good and bad news to tell you.

The good news is that I am an expert in mixing cement, best grades in my university! The bad news is that I get dizzy easily, that if I even see a cement mixer spinning, I faint pretty much on the spot.

But, I am going to tell you exactly what to do, Rita. You are going to be an expert in no time at all. We will start with a little bit of cement and later when you know what you are doing, you can mix as much as you want.

Step one, when you are making cement, is to pour the cement into the cement mixer. There are sacks of cement near here, take them and pour them in the cement mixer over there. The cement powder should go into that grey funnel.

Objectives: Take the cement sacks and pour them into the cement mixer.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Go over to the stack of cement bags, and pick two of them up, then place each one into the grey funnel of the cement mixer. Return to Builder Donald when you are finished.

mr_bucket

Good. It wasn’t that hard, was it?

Quest completed

______________

Cement Lesson, Part Two

mr_bucket

The other thing we need when mixing cement is water, completely normal water. It is a long way down to the water here, but I threw down a hose and was lucky to hit the water. The hose is connected to a pump, so you can get water there. Yes, I know. I should be able to do it, but the pump is so close to the edge that I can’t just go anywhere near it again…

Take the bucket and fill it with water. Then pour the water into the blue funnel on the cement mixer. Pretty easy, right?

Objectives: Fill the empty bucket with water and then pour it into the blue funnel on the cement mixer.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Ride out onto the bridge and fill the bucket with water. Then take the bucket up to the cement mixer and pour it into the blue funnel. Return to Builder Donald when you are done.

mr_bucket

That went well. It wasn’t too difficult, right?

Quest completed

______________

Cement Lesson, Final Exam

mr_bucket

There. Now the cement mixer is working as it should. Now it is time to see how it turned out. Are you curious? I’m really excited!

There is a bucket over there, pour the cement into it and bring it here so I can see how it turned out.

Objectives: Take the bucket that Builder Donald gave you and fill it with mixed cement from the cement mixer. Then take the bucket and show it to Builder Donald.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Let’s see how you did as a student of cement mixing…

Let me see. That cement is perfect! You have a real talent for this, I have to say.

mr_bucket

You are still an inexperienced cement mixer, so to make sure you can’t cause a disaster for the whole project, unfortunately I can’t let you just use the cement mixer however you like. Once a day I can let you have it, more than that and we would be putting the whole project at risk. You might think this is just old superstition, but I don’t think we should take any risks.

Quest completed

You can now do daily quests to make cement to build on the bridge. When you have made the cement, go down onto the bridge and place the cement in the specified area. You must complete the first daily quest to be able to purchase additional cement from Bulldozer Billy.

At this point, if you choose not to purchase additional materials, you must wait until the next day to be able to complete the daily quests for more materials.

Keep working on the bridge until the completion bar is filled.

A Finished Bridge

mr_bucket

Wow. What a handsome bridge! We did a great job Rita! Mostly thanks to you.

You know what? To really celebrate the bridge opening I think we should light off a firework. Then everyone will see that we have fixed the bridge!

Take this rocket and put it in the bottle here beside me and you’ll get to see a real firework!

Objectives: Put the rocket in the bottle beside Builder Donald to set it off.

Rewards: 75 Jorvik Shillings

Go up to the hill across from Builder Donald and dismount your horse to set the rocket in the bottle and light it off. Return to Builder Donald when you have set off the rocket.

mr_bucket

Excellent Rita! Now we are done! I’m going to go back to my home in Jarlaheim as fast as I can, I just need to clean up here first. Come and visit me in Jarlaheim sometime if you are riding past, it is the most beautiful city on Jorvik if you ask me. I live beside the city hall where our well-respected mayor Evelyn has her residence.

Hmm… Wait a minute…
