The Road to Epona

herman

Hi Rita! Great you could make it here so quickly.

I’ve got wonderful news!

Remember the report Ms Drake gave me before? Exactly, the one she asked you to put in the mail but you gave it to me instead. I’ve read it all, more times than I can count! And… Well…

Hang on, let me just gather myself a moment. One shouldn’t stress when there are important things to talk about. I put some water on to boil for tea earlier. A cup of tea is just the thing for discussing things as important as this!

I think the water’s boiling, could you take it off the heat Rita?

I’ll get my thoughts together while you do that.

Objectives: Take the pot of boiling water off the heat, then talk to Herman again.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Let’s make some tea!

herman

Thanks Rita! Now the water can just rest a little and cool down, then we can make a nice cup of tea for us both.

Right, yes, as I was saying. I’ve read Ms Drake’s report, the one you gave me before, and if I’m completely honest I don’t actually understand very much of it.

You see, nothing’s written in plain language. Codes here, references to other documents there, and vague concepts everywhere.

But what’s completely clear is that something big and unbelievable dangerous is on the go. There are references to something called “Operation Grim Harvest.” There are spreadsheets with entries like “industrial harvest equipment,” “aggressive damage claims,” and “demolition estimates for a city the size of Jarlaheim.” There are forms that mention hiring “heavily equipped external security consultants…” It just goes on and on.

You can hear for yourself Rita, it sounds like G.E.D. are planning something truly terrible. Thing is, there’s nothing that even comes close to evidence in the report, certainly nothing that G.E.D.’s army of lawyers can’t explain away or interpret as something that’s completely within the law.

I’m sorry Rita, but G.E.D. are good. Too good. There’s nothing in this report I could use to stop them.

Don’t look so sad though Rita! Haha!

Just because I don’t understand the report, doesn’t mean that it can’t be used by someone else!

I’ve sent copies to friends around Jorvik, and I’ve had an answer back from some of them. More particularly, from just the person I was hoping to hear from. This is why I’m so happy! Jorvik’s leading warrior in the fight against G.E.D. as been in touch.

The person I’m talking about is the leader of CHILL, a secret organization who are doing all they can to throw nails in the road for G.E.D.

I’ve never met her before, I don’t know what she looks like, and I don’t know where she lives. I only know her name.

Of course I’m talking about Mrs X. Have you heard of her?

Quest completed

______________

On the Other Side of the Gates

herman

Let me explain.

A few days ago, a letter arrived from Mrs X. She wrote that G.E.D.’s report confirmed her suspicions of what G.E.D. are up to in the Harvest Counties. She didn’t want to say anything more in the letter — “safety first!” as she wrote — but if I meet her, she’s promised to tell me more face to face. After that, she’s certain we’ll be able to stop G.E.D. once and for all.

This could be exactly the kind of good news we needed Rita! I must meet her as soon as possible.

She did however have two demands. I need to go to the meeting place alone, and I’m absolutely not allowed to tell anyone about where we’re meeting, not even you Rita. The problem is getting there, because the meeting place is in Epona. Do you know where that is?

Exactly, it’s the area on the other side of the gates near Greendale. Unfortunately, there’s only one way there and it goes through Harald Stormheart’s land. The gates there have been locked for years, and I’ve got no idea how I’d get past. Harald is a very old friend of mine, he’d help us as much as he could, I’m sure of it. Thing is, I can’t talk to him if I can’t get through those gates.

Or, well, of course I mean “we.” I can’t do this by myself, I need help. It’ll be a dangerous journey, certainly not something an old fella like me can handle alone.

So I suppose my question is, will you come with me to Epona, Rita?

Great! Great news! I knew I could count on you. I’ve promised Mrs X that I wouldn’t say  word to anyone about the meeting place, but right up until we get close, we travel together, okay?

Super! I’ve been working on an idea and I’ll tell you about it…

But surely the tea is ready by now. Could you fetch us both a cup?

Objectives: Bring two teacups to Herman.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP, Cup of Tea

Pick up the two cups on the counter next to Herman to bring him the tea.

herman

Ahh, thanks for the tea, Rita. It’s a lovely cuppa.

Yes, of course! My idea. Now, listen up.

There’s a secret pathway that goes over the Greydew Mountains. Not a lot of people know that, but it’s been used by soldiers, refugees, and smugglers all throughout history. If I just knew where it was, we’d be able to use it to get ourselves over to Epona. What do you think to that plan Rita?

You wonder how we’ll find out where it is? I don’t suppose it’ll be very easy, but with a little help from our friends, I’m sure it’ll work out. You see, two of the families around here know the secrets of this hidden pathway. We need their help, and if there’s anyone who can get them to help us out, it’s you Rita.

I’ll start making preparations for our trip and try to get hold of all the information I can find about Epona. In the meantime, you get going on finding out where exactly this secret pathway over the Greydew Mountains is. Does that sound like a plan?

Guardians of the Secret Path

herman

The Goldspur family are one of the two families who guard the secrets of the hidden path over the Greydew Mountains. They know where it starts, and without knowing that, we’re not really going to get very far.

Talk to Jakob Goldspur and explain the situation to him. He might be a little suspicious, but if he feels as though he can trust you, I’m sure he’ll give you some info.

Objectives: Talk to Jakob Goldspur.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Ride out to the Goldspur Mill and speak to old man Jakob.

jakob_goldspur

Hello there! How can I help you?

You want to find a secret pathway over the Greydew Mountains? What makes you think an old man like me would know anything about something like that?

Quest completed

______________

A Double Obstacle Ahead…

jakob_goldspur

So, you want me to tell you where the secret pathway over the Greydew Mountains begins?

Hmm… Okay. I’ll tell you, but I don’t think you’re going to like what I have to say.

It all began when my dad had an idea. The location of the start of the path was written down on a piece of paper, but he thought that was far too unsafe. He knew a druid in Valedale and with his help he created what he thought was a much better solution: a magic compass.

The compass shows the way to where the path begins, but only if the person using it knows the secret phrases which activate the magic in the old stones guarding the way. Incredibly clever, and a bit more robust than just a little slip of paper. The secret phrases are taught to everyone in our family when we’re kids, but the compass is always looked after by the oldest member of the family. This means that at the moment, the compass is held by me.

Unfortunately though, the compass is gone. Well. Not gone exactly, but it’s a little out of reach right now…

Why is it out of reach?

Umm… That’s not really something I want to talk about. Don’t look so angry, Rita!

Okay, okay, I’ll tell you but you have to promise not to laugh.

Hannibal and Alexander were allowed to borrow it from me a few weeks ago. I thought they’d think it was nice to look at, but they obviously had other ideas. I should’ve known it was a bad idea. Sigh.

They hid it, and then thought it was funny that I should have to look for it. Lots of fun. Hmm. But, before they got to tell me their plan, Idun shouted that it was time for dinner, and you don’t want to keep Idun waiting. They of course ran inside and promptly forgot where they’d hidden it.

I’ve looked and looked and it’s nowhere to be found… They must’ve hidden the compass in quite excellent hiding place, or well at least it’s far too tricky for me anyway. Plus, it’s been decades since anybody’s needed to know anything about the secret path, so I assumed I wasn’t against the clock when it came to finding the compass.

You might have a little more luck than me, Rita. Ask the twins if they can remember where they hid the compass, and perhaps they’ll recall if it’s you who’s asking…

Objectives: Talk to Hannibal Goldspur.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Wait to go Gramps… Now I have to deal with the creepy babies…

Speak to Hannibal up by the Goldspur Farm.

hannibel_goldspur

Do you want to play, Rita?! Pleeeeeease?!

Compass? Grandpa’s old compass?

Haha, we hid that so well! You’ll never find it, hahaha!

Super Crafty Blackmail

hannibel_goldspur

Haha! The compass is hidden in a super crafty place! We’ll never tell you where it is!

But… We do really like candy… Heehee!

We might tell you if we had something sweet… But, you know, don’t say anything to our mother. She’d be super angry!

Where would you find candy? Well our daddy Angus has usually got some, so maybe you can ask him? Heehee, hurry though, otherwise we might forget where the compass is! Heeheehee!!

Objectives: Talk to Angus Goldspur.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Listen here, you little shit. Nobody blackmails me and gets away with it, especially not a creepy baby like you…

Tell Angus about this blackmail scheme you’ve become caught in.

angus_goldspur

Hi Rita! What’s up?

Candy for the twins? No, no, no, they eat far too many sweeties already, the last thing they need is more sugar.

Quest completed

______________

Pick Gunpowder Pepper

angus_goldspur

Why do you want to give the twins more sweets Rita? You know it’s not good for them.

You need to give them candy so they’ll help you with something important, you say?

Blackmail…

Haha, if they want sweeties, then they’ll get them. Specially prepared Angus-candy.

Rita, in the fields around here on our land there’s loads of gunpowder pepper growing. It’s a flower that’s very, very spicy. Completely harmless and great for giving a little kick to some of the simpler meals, but it’s not something you’d exactly call candy. Hehehe…

Grab a few handfuls of gunpowder pepper and the twins can get a taste of candy they’ll not soon forget!

Objectives: Pick some gunpowder pepper flowers in the Goldspurs’ fields, then return to Angus Goldspur.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

-evil laughter-

The pepper flowers can be found in the horse paddock next to the road, and also in the wheat field.

angus_goldspur

Great, now let’s make some gunpowder candy! Haha!

Gunpowder Lollipops

angus_goldspur

So there we go, two lollipops dipped in gunpowder pepper.

This should give those cheeky twins something to think about! Haha!

Tell them from me that if they don’t help you, then all the sweeties they get from me in the future will be seriously spicy!

Objectives: Give the lollipops to Hannibal Goldspur.

Reward: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Revenge is a dish best served spicy hot!

Please Rita, give me some water!

I promise I’ll tell you where the compass is if you just give me some water!

Take this bucket! Fill it up from the pump over there! Please hurry, my mouth is on fire! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!

A New Prank to Play on Grandpa

hannibel_goldspur

That wasn’t very nice, Rita, but you win. This time.

It was pretty funny though, I didn’t think you could have so much fun with just a bit of pepper…

Haha! Now we’ll get Grandpa good next dinnertime.

Haha!

The compass?

Oh, nah. No idea where it is… We hid it really well somewhere around here in the farmyard. So well hidden that we can’t even find it now. Haha!

If I can remember anything?

Umm… I think it was somewhere high up. Now I remember! It was in one of the silos!

You’ll have to go look for it yourself though, we’ve got to go and pick gunpowder pepper of our own! Thank dad for the tip! Haha!

Objectives: Find the compass, then take it to Jakob Goldspur.

Rewards: 45 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

The compass can be found in the upper level of the silo by the mill. Once you have found it, speak to Jakob.

jakob_goldspur

Did you find the compass Rita?

Great, where had those little rascals hidden it? Up at the top of the silo? They know very well they’re not allowed to play there. I’ll be having a word with those two scoundrels!

First though, I’ll show you how the compass works.

Quest completed

______________

With the Help of the Compass, We’ll Find the Way

jakob_goldspur

So, here’s how the compass works, Rita.

Take out the compass and say the magic words, “O, Golden Compass, hear our plea, Goldspur’s guardians beg of thee: tell where the secret path may be.”

It’s a bit over the top if you ask me, but my dad liked a little bit of the theatrical and he’s the one who came up with the wording, so I guess that’s how it’s got to be.

Oh well, when you’ve said the magic words, the needle on the compass will point to the direction in which you’ve got to ride to get to a magic milestone. When you reach the stone, place the compass on it and say the next magic phrase, “O, Golden Compass, the way you’ve shown, led Goldspur’s guardians to this magic stone.”

The compass will then show you the way to the next magic milestone, and then you do the same thing again. Continue doing it until you get to the beginning of the secret path.

I don’t know quite why the compass can’t just show you where the path is in the first place, but dad was pretty special like that.

Do you understand how the magic compass works now?

Good!

Best of luck to you!

Objectives: The compass is shown on the map, down to the right of your screen. Follow the direction it’s showing until you get to your target, then use the compass there.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

The compass will actively adjust direction as you ride, leading you to the first stone on Dew Mountain Road, just past the windmill at Goldspur’s Farm.

quest-secret_path1

When you reach the stone, use the compass from your inventory.

Follow the compass again to each new stone (I’m only listing this quest once, as the dialog is all the same), until you reach the end of the trail and activate the last stone.

Stone 2:

Just off the Dew Mountain Road, toward the Forbidden Fields.

Stone 3:

quest-secret_path3

Under the bridge off the Easter Trail, toward the Forbidden Fields. The easiest way to get down is from behind the Unfortunate Dews’ Farm, but you can also reach it from up the east end of the Eastern Trail, toward Wolf Hall Inn.

Stone 4:

Up the hill off the Eastern Trail, toward Wolf Hall Inn.

Stone 5:

South Grey Gate Pass, Wolf Hall Inn side of the road.

You’ve found the secret pathway. You give yourself a pat on the back for a job well down. Time to ride back to Herman and tell him the good news.

Rewards: 65 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

The first part of the preparations are complete!

Hello there Rita! How’s it all going? You’ve found the secret path? This is magnificent news!

Very well done. We’re almost ready to head off to Epona.

Chock Full of Tricksy Traps!

herman

The pathway over the Greydew Mountains isn’t just hard to find, it’s also full of traps. If you don’t know how to get past the traps, then it’s impossible to get to the end of the path. Well, impossible to get to the end of the path alive.

The Jarlassons have been guarding the secrets of the path’s traps for generations. If you can get Dorith Jarlasson to understand why it’s so important for you to use the path, then I’m sure she’ll tell you about the traps. Talk to Dorith Jarlasson and explain the situation to her.

Good luck!

Objectives: Talk to Dorith Jarlasson on Paddock Island.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 15 with the Jarlasson Family

Now to begin the second part of preparation.

dorith_jarlasson

Hello, dear Rita! How can I help you on this beautiful day?

You want to know how to avoid the traps along the secret pathway over the Greydew Mountains?

…

That’s one of our family’s oldest and most closely guarded secrets. Are you sure I can trust you not to tell anyone?

Quest completed

______________

An Extremely Valuable Document

dorith_jarlasson

So, you’d like to know how to get across the Greydew Mountains. As you’ve probably already gathered, there’s a secret pathway over the mountains, which is, just as it sounds, secret.

The Goldspur family knows where the path is, and my family knows how to get past the lethal traps that are designed to stop the path being used by the enemies of the Harvest Counties.

I understand it’s important for you to get to Epona, so I’ll help you as much as I can. The information you’re after is written in the Jarlasson Code, an old document that’s been handed down through generations, but unfortunately it’s no longer in our possession. Don’t look so horrified! It’s in good hands, which is probably just as well. It does  mean though, that I can’t just give it to you, you’ll have to ask Jill Goldspur for permission to borrow it.

You see, we donated the code – along with a collections of other old items – to Jarlaheim. We didn’t have the money to look after all our old antiquities properly, and we were worried that they would eventually be destroyed, so we donated them to the city so that they would be looked after properly by trained experts and studied by Jorvegian researchers. I know that the Jarlasson Code is in the cellar of the courthouse and it’s kept in a special room with the perfect temperature and humidity. It’s incredibly highly valued, but I’m sure that Jill Goldspur would lend it to you considering everything you’ve done for Jarlaheim.

Say hello to Jill from me and come back once you’ve got the Jarlasson Code.

Objectives: Talk to Jill Goldspur.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 20 with The Jarlasson Family

Ride to Jarlaheim and speak to Jill near the city courthouse.

jill_goldspur

You’re wondering if you could borrow a document from the courthouse’s library? It’s not something we’d usually allow, but since it’s you, we might be able to make an exception… Which document are you thinking about?

The Jarlasson Code? The unsolved code that used to belong to the Jarlasson Family? Are you aware that this is one of the most priceless documents we own? It’s out of the question!

Quest completed

______________

Handled by Experts

jill_goldspur

I’m sorry Rita, but historical documents need to be handled by trained antiques experts. It’s entirely out of the question that you’d get to handle it yourself.

Perhaps my dumbo brother would let you into the library, but as luck would have it, he’s disappeared.

Typical…

I asked him to sign off on a whole bunch of important paperwork that needs to be sent away by tomorrow morning at the latest. If you see him anywhere, you could tell him to hurry up.

Objectives: Look for Jack Goldspur.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

He can be found on the ramp up to the wall behind the courthouse building.

jack_goldspur

Yo yo yo, Rita! How’s it hangin’? You’ve seen Jill? I’m trying to stay out of her way since she’s trying to get me to work. Ever heard anything so awful? Haha!

She wants me to fill in all these boring forms. Look, check out how lame they are!

Oops!

Quest completed

You Scratch My Back…

jack_goldspur

Oopsie, there go all those important papers off into the wind.

How terrible… Hehe.

Nothing we can do about it now! Wanna play some video games, Rita?

You want to get into the old library? Why? There’s nothing cool in there, just yawnsome old books and papers.

You wanna go in there and Jill wouldn’t let you?

Okay, of course I’ll let you in there buddy! Maybe you could help me with something first though, yeah? You will? Sweeeeet!

All these dullsville papers, yeah? Jill’s gonna be crazy angry if I don’t sign them. Could you fix that up for me? Pleeeeease?! I promise I’ll let you into the library if you help me avoid her coming in her with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp… You’ll help me?! Radical!!

Here, take this sweet new pen I just got, it rules! Haha!

Objectives: Sign all the documents for Jack Goldspur.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Fart pen!

Dismount your horse to use the pen on the papers dropped on the ground. You only have to sign the first four pages. Make sure to have your sound on as the pen makes some…. interesting… noises. I did this quest over several times just to hear it, because that’s the kind of dumb sense of humor that I have.

jack_goldspur

What? You’re done already?

Cool pen, right? Haha!

Quest completed

______________

The Views of the Citizens Always Count!

jack_goldspur

Actually, there was something else you could do for me…

Please?

Sweet! You see, everyone who lives here in this town has a ton of opinions about what I should be doing. I try to listen as little as possible, but now I’ve promised Jill that I’ll meet the voting public face to face.

It’s apparently important for my image to get out there and meet the people, and I agree! Who wouldn’t want to meet a legend like me?!

But I haven’t got time. I’ve got tons of important stuff to be doing, like, y’know, mayor stuff. Maybe you’d do it for me?

You can?

Oh, pleeeeeeease?!

Sweeeeeet!!

Come back once you’re done and I’ll let you into the library, I swear.

Objectives: Listen to the opinions of the residents.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Ride around the city and listen to the citizen’s grievances, then return to Jack.

…Except, where did he go? Maybe Jill has seen him.

Meh, Jack’s pretty unreliable as you know. I don’t think he meant to trick you, he probably just got bored. In any case, I was thinking about what you said about the library, and even though I can’t let you in, I’d still like to help you.

Here’s a scanned copy of the Jarlasson Code you were looking for. Take it with you back to Dorith.

Objectives: Talk to Dorith Jarlasson on Paddock Island

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Decoding Assistance

dorith_jarlasson

Great work Rita, but now’s when the hard yards begin. We need to crack the Jarlasson Code.

Unfortunately the instructions of how to crack it have been lost, but I think I can remember enough to get us there.

Hmm, it doesn’t look too complex, but even though I’m good at mathematics, I’ll need your help. It’s a lot of numbers to keep in my head at one time.

If you help me with a little bit of simple arithmetic, then I reckon we can solve this. You ready?

Objectives: Help Dorith Jarlasson solve the Jarlasson Code.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 25 with The Jarlasson Family

Pay close attention as you complete the simple equations to solve the first part of the code.

dorith_jarlasson

Hmm, I think I’m beginning to understand how this first code is constructed. A little bit more to go though…

Objectives: Help Dorith Jarlasson solve the Jarlasson Code.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 25 with The Jarlasson Family

Answer the matching questions to help Dorith fill in the next part of the code.

An Unconventional Decipher

dorith_jarlasson

So, are you ready? This is pretty much the most complicated part. Now, you’ll probably think my questions are completely insane, but don’t worry. It might be a bit of an unconventional decipher, but it’s actually a great way of doing it.

Objectives: Help Dorith Jarlasson crack the Jarlasson Code.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 50 with The Jarlasson Family

Complete the matching groups to fill in the final part of the code.

dorith_jarlasson

Haha! We cracked it! I’ll write down the deciphered message for you.

There we go!

With these instructions, you’ll be able to get yourself from one end of the secret path over the Greydew Mountains to the other in one piece, avoiding all those traps!

You know where it begins, don’t you? Otherwise I’d recommend vising the Goldspurs, as they know all about that.

A good job well done there Rita! Here’s the deciphered Jarlasson Code, everything’s there clear as crystal. If you read through it carefully enough, you’ll be able to ride safely along the secret path over the Greydew Mountains.

Give Herman the good news and say hello to him from me and my family. We’re on his side in the fight against G.E.D., but then he knows that already. Bye Rita!

Objectives: Ride back to Herman and tell him how to get past the traps on the secret path over the Greydew Mountains.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Last part of the preparations is done! Tell Herman the good news.

herman

Hello Rita! Everything going well? What’s that? You’ve solved the Jarlasson Code?

Fantastic! And it’s all there? All the information about how to avoid the traps on the secret path? Unbelievable. I’d love to read through it so I can memorize everything that it says.

We’re very nearly ready to go to Epona!

Help Herman Pack

herman

We need to get going as soon as possible Rita. I just need to get a few final things together before we leave. Gosh, it’s a lot to take care of, would you mind helping?

Thanks! It’s been a while since I’ve made a journey like this one, and the Greydew Mountains are known for their ‘unwelcoming’ weather. Once we get down from the mountains though, we’ll be in between the two rivers that run through Epona, Full Moon Water, and the Epona River. It’s always warm there, since the water in the rivers comes from a hot spring deep inside the mountain. It’s this heat that makes the air and water much warmer than usual.

So yes, a trip where you have to change out of your winter coat and into your swim shorts every five minutes isn’t the easiest journey to pack for. Haha!

Rita, would you mind getting my winter clothes and swim shorts for me? I did the laundry yesterday, and it’s still all hanging out to dry, since I forgot to take it down and put it away.

Lovely! Grab the clothes, and then we can be off!

Objectives: Fetch Herman’s clothes that are hanging out to dry.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Go outside and over to the stable’s inn and pluck Herman’s laundry off the line. Return to his house when you have all his clothes.

Ride With Herman to the Beginning of the Secret Pathway

herman

So there we go, Rita! I think we’re just about ready to get going to Epona. I’m all packed and ready, so it’s just a case of riding to the beginning of the secret pathway whenever you’re ready. What do you say? Shall we go right now?

Great! I’ll sit behind you on Summerblaze. Come on then, Rita! No time to waste!

Objectives: Ride with Herman to the beginning of the secret path over the Greydew Mountains.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Join Herman and his fat ass on the back of your poor horse, and ride together to the last stone you had found with the compass, just past Grey Gate Pass.

herman

Ah, so this is where the secret path begins. Pretty-well hidden, I’d say.

Ha! Soon we’ll be over the Greydew Mountains and then it’s not long until I meet Mrs X! Rita, I’m certain that once she and I work together, we’ll get rid of G.E.D. from the Harvest Counties quick as a flash!

Now it’s adventure time! Haha!

A Journey on the Secret Path

herman

I feel twenty years younger, Rita! This is going to be tremendous fun. First, we need to get past all those traps on the secret path. I’ll check the map while you ride, and I’ll warn you if you’re getting too close to a trap.

Take it easy, Rita, but not too easy. Mrs X is waiting for us in Epona, and we have to meet her as soon as possible. Soon enough G.E.D. will get what they justly deserve!

Come on Rita! Let’s go!

Objectives: Ride along the secret path over the Greydew Mountains, and look out for the traps!

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 40 XP

Click on the sparkles to enter the beginning of the path. It is not a race so you can take your time. This quest is difficult! If you get hit with a trap, you will have to begin the quest again.

The first two traps are falling trees and rocks off the cliff above you. Stop to let the danger fall and settle, then ride on.

The next trap is a gigantic rolling boulder. You have two options to avoid this one. Herman tells you to run out onto the cliff and stop. If you choose to do that, run as soon as he tells you, out onto the grassy outcrop and the boulder will roll behind you. You can also stop as soon as he tells you to run, stay on the hill, and the boulder will roll past in front of you. Once the boulder is gone, you can continue on.

There are several breaks in the cliff edge you will have to jump over.

The last traps is two sets of geysers that explode in order down the line. These traps repeat, so you will have to time your run past each geyser, then wait for the next to blow before continuing on.

Herman will announce when you have made it past all of the traps on the path. Ride down into the G.E.D. site until a guard stops you and a bulldozer parks behind you, blocking your retreat back onto the path.

herman

Look out! A G.E.D. guard!

Oh shoot, he’s seen us!

DARN! The G.E.D. guard has sounded the alarm!

This isn’t good, Rita. If they catch us, we’ll never get to know the information Mrs X holds, and we’ll never be able to stop G.E.D.!

Rita, listen carefully now. We’ll never get out of here together.

Do you understand? Ride, Rita. I’ll stay behind.

I know it’s not perfect, but it’s the only way. They’d catch up with me before I’d had a chance to take ten steps, but I’ve seen you ride. You’re the finest rider I’ve ever seen.

You’re the only one who can do this.

I’ll stop the guard so you can escape. You’ve got to do what we came to do now. You’ve GOT to find Mrs X.

Go now Rita, it’s time. Ride to Stormgarden and tell Harald Stormheart what’s happening.

There’s no more time, the guard’s coming! Go Rita, go! Find Mrs X!

It took me several  tries to complete it, so have patience and pay attention to the route and obstacles in the way.

The Gates on the Road to Jarlaheim

harald_stormheart

Herman is in G.E.D.’s custody… This is terrible. If we’re lucky, they’ll have reported him to the police for trespassing, but I’m not so sure… They know Herman wants them out of the Harvest Counties, and I think they might take this opportunity to make sure he won’t be able to work against them anymore.

Sigh.

I don’t know what I can do to get him free… But wait, what were you doing on G.E.D.’s land anyway?

Herman was on his way to meet Mrs X?

Hmm… I’ve heard a fair amount about her, but I’ve stayed out of the fight between her and G.E.D.

But if there’s anyone who can save Herman from the clutches of G.E.D., it’s Mrs X. I’m going to do everything I can to help you find her.

First though, I’ve kept myself locked in here on this land for long enough.

I locked my gates so that G.E.D. wouldn’t be able to get onto my land but they just went right ahead and built up their enterprise up on the mountain instead. It doesn’t matter how much I try to hide, G.E.D. just does whatever they want anyway. Now they’ve crossed the line. Kidnapping Herman?! They’ve crossed the line…

G.E.D. has to be stopped.

I’m going to need all the help I can get. There’s no point staying hidden away in here anymore, and if someone from Jarlaheim wants to come and help, then they’re welcome.

Rita, go at once and unlock the gate on the road between my land and Jarlaheim. The code is 1234.

Come back to me once it’s done and we can think about how I can help you out.

A Village by the River

harald_stormheart

I wish I had some wonderful idea about how you could save Herman from G.E.D., but I can’t think of anything right now. I’ll think and think until my head aches, but I can’t make any promises. Mrs X has the best chance of saving Herman.

Unfortunately, I’ve got new idea of how you’d get hold of her… I don’t know much of anything about her to be honest. Only that she’s incredibly brave, intelligent, and the leader of CHILL.

CHILL is incredibly secretive, so getting in touch with their leader is no small task.

There’s one person who might now… Pamela Moonriver. She lives in Crescent Moon Village down by the Full Moon River, the river running to the south. She’s openly associated with CHILL, which makes her a brave woman if I ever knew one. If you let her know what’s going on, then maybe she can help you.

My daughter Tatiana is good friends with Pamela, so she’ll be able to help you get in touch with her. Talk to Tatiana.

But if you want to get to Crescent Moon Village, you’ll need to unlock the gate here by me first. There’s a combination lock on the gate, and I can’t remember the code for the life of me. The gate is exactly the same as the one on the road to Jarlaheim, but the code. Nope. It’s been so long since anyone wanted to open it.

Hmm, I’m sure I had a really good system for remembering the code, hang on… How did it go?

Yes! There are four numbers in the code, and the numbers in the code are the same as the number of legs on different animals…

The animals were a bear, a horse, a human, and an ant.

Do you understand? You look unsure, but you’ll get it Rita! Come back if you need more help.

Good luck in Crescent Moon Village!

Why are you so interested in her, might I ask?

Your friend Herman was captured by G.E.D., you say? Hmm… I’ve heard of Herman. Seems like a good chap.

Do you know what, I promised to take these sacks up to the mill. If you could help me with the last of them, I’ll have a think about how I might be able to help.

Thanks for helping.

You seem like a decent person, and if Harald and Tatiana trust you, then I’m sure I’ll be able to as well.

First, some advice. Be very careful talking about Mrs X and CHILL around these parts. You never know who might be listening…

I’ll ask around, perhaps I know someone who knows where to find Mrs X. I hope you don’t mind me saying, but I’ll also ask around a little bit about you Rita, just to see if I can’t find out a little more about you. Safety first, you know.

That said, it’s going to take me a little while to get in touch with my contacts. Come back tomorrow and I’ll let you know how I’m getting on.

Of course, it was the same system as the code for the gate for Crescent Moon Village, just with different animals.

For this gate, you’ll have to think of how many legs these animals have: spider, snake, lion, dog.

Objectives: The code is made up of four numbers. The numbers match the number of legs on these animals: spider, snake, lion, dog.

No? You’re sure? It’s an innovative dish, a timeless tribute to Jorvik’s most undervalued stones…

Ah well, maybe another time. What can I help you with then? You want to unlock the gate on the road between Wolf Hall Inn and the Eastern Slopes?

Well of course I can help you! It’s fiendishly simple of course, just put the code into the lock!

Now let me see, the code… Code, code, code… Nope. Totally forgot the code Rita. I’ve written it down somewhere though, but I’ve no idea where, truth be told. Haha! Hello Rita! Finally here!

Professor Einstein figured out that this is the perfect place for my little shop. She seems to know what’ she’s talking about, so I think I can trust her. Would you do me the honor of taking down the sign that shows the shop as being closed?

Hi Rita! You just missed the transport to the Valley of the Hidden Dinosaur. Igor and Franke just drove off with a truck full of everything they need to get started with setting up our 3-star restaurant.

professor_einstein

You mean some kind of transport should’ve arrived with a cook, a waiter, and a whole heap of furniture? Mm, that noise I heard earlier could most likely have come from a truck driving straight into the lake. That’s really quite probable.

Why didn’t I check what the noise was? Rita, I’ve never really been that interested in vehicles, I’m afraid.

But, now I’m aware of the situation, it sounds as though it has every likelihood of being really rather serious. Hurry down to the lake and see if you can’t find the transport.

Objectives: Find Igor and Franke in the lake in the Valley of the Hidden Dinosaur.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

You can get to them by going down to the lake on the camp side but there are large gaps in the ice and you have to take a very long way around.

The quickest way I found is to ride the road back toward the elevator, then turn off just on the other side of the camp.

professor_einstein

Oh, Rita, how wonderful! It seems as though Frank really likes you!

Oh, Frank… My dear, dear brother…

Right. Good. Enough with the sentimentality. No time here for feelings.

It’s time for me to call in all the favors I’m owed by my colleagues at the university: I’m going to make sure that we get a delivery of all the very best and most advanced medical equipment available. That way I can diagnose Frank and then find a cure for whatever bizarre affliction is tormenting him.

This will take time, but Frank disappeared ten years ago, so another couple days won’t make any difference. Until then, we’ve got other business to be getting on with. We mustn’t let such things distract us from our plan!

Quest completed

______________

Logically Planned Fun

professor_einstein

Ah well Rita… There’s nothing we can do to help Frank right now, so there’s no point in wasting any more time thinking about it. You’ve no doubt already concluded what the next logical step of our plan is, hmm?

No?

Hmm… Okay. I’ll explain. We’ve already built facilities for horses here, so clearly the next step is to ensure that there’s something for horses and their riders to do. I hear that races are very popular, which means the construction of a race course has a very obvious place here in our plans. A race course which is both challenging and fun. Yes.

Nic had an idea – which was surprisingly not that bad… He said we should try to create a race course which gets people more interested in learning about science and nature at the same time as racing! With a combination of fun, some kind of learning, and sport.

That nobody’s though of it before? I know! It’ll be an international superhit, as Nic put it.

Ah well, enough with enthusiasm. First, we need to work out that the route I’ve already calculated doesn’t include intolerable risks for the riders. I want you to ride out onto the ice and make sure there are no more than three deep cracks along my proposed route.

Mostly just a mere formality – they’re very simple calculations – but you know as well as I do at this stage that we can’t take anything for granted when probability is involved.

So there we go. Off with you now.

Objectives: Look for cracks in the ice on the lake.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

Inspect the marked areas on your map. Then return to Professor Einstein.

professor_einstein

So, no cracks in the ice. Splendid. Full steam ahead then!

What? Three cracks? Unbelievable…

Ah well, I suppose I’ll just have to go over my calculations again and determine a new optimal race course. While I’m busy with that, there are lots of other things you could be getting on with before we open up the race.

Quest completed

______________

Favorably Frozen

professor_einstein

For the races, we need markers which indicate where competitors are supposed to ride. These usually come in the form of flags, but it took me just under four minutes to work out seven different designs that are better than flags. Again, though, we’re limited by the depressing technological level of this environment so I suppose we’ll just have to stick to whatever materials we can find around here and of course follow the tradition of flags when it comes to marking the outer limits of the course.

A bonus – the only bonus – of the cold climate here is that the ice is really strong. I have – using thorough experiments – arrived at the conclusion that the best way to construct race limit indication devices is by using icicles. Icicles that you’ll of course have to collect, you understand.

Collect icicles so we can make race limit indication devices.

Objectives: Find icicles for Professor Einstein.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: (15 points toward building the camp)

Collect several large icicles from around the camp. Be sure not to break them!

professor_einstein

Hmm…

These icicles are of a relatively acceptable quality. Good work Rita.

______________

Suitable Materials for Race Limit Indication Devices

professor_einstein

Traditionally, race limit indication devices (or flags as you people might call them) are constructed from differently colored fabrics depending on whether they stand on the left or right-hand sides of the checkpoints. Far from optimal, if you ask me, but I suppose we have to consider how regular racers aren’t as rational as you or I, and may struggle to see the obvious advantages of a multidimensional matrix structure where – with a mere glance – the flag shows everything from optimum speed and angle, to the current longitude and height above sea level. People are usually very narrow-minded and not open to new ideas, Rita. People make me sick.

To construct our race limit indication devices, we need appropriate material. I’ve noticed that there’s a variety of lichen in different colors here in the valley. Collect the white, black, and red lichen. Hurry up.

Objectives: Gather white, black, and red lichen for Professor Einstein.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

The lichen hangs in little triangles off the tree branches around the camp. Collect enough of each color, then return to Professor Einstein.

professor_einstein

Lichen. Hugely suboptimal material, but it’s not as though we can be very choosy out here in the sticks…

______________

Differing Probabilities for Different People

professor_einstein

My calculations once again show that the chance of the mail having arrived has risen to the level that it’s once again worth your while to investigate the mailbox. The probability hasn’t reached a level where it would also be worth the hassle for me, so according to the laws of logic, the job lands quite neatly in your lap. Off you pop.

Objectives: Check if any mail has arrived at Nic Stoneground’s camp.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

-sighs-

professor_einstein

No mail? Thought so.

professor_einstein

I simply do not understand what’s wrong with the Hydro-Detecto 2000, Rita, there’s probably no point in continuing.

What could be wrong? I don’t know.

It’s an incredibly complex device but to give you a nice plain description, we could say that it records all of the water within a fixed radius and indicates where there’s a certain amount of water.

Ice? What’s that got to do with the price of fish? Is to do with anything?

There’s ice everywhere, Rita!

…

Ice is water, obviously! What are you asking about ice for?!

…

How could I be so stupid?! This climate is terrible, the cold is going straight to my head!

Haha! Can you imagine… I hadn’t set the Hydro-Detecto 2000 to disregard frozen water.

Hahaha!

…

So, enough with the jokes. Back to work.

Here, now I’ve recalibrated the Hydro-Detecto 2000, except this time I’ve done it correctly. Now it’ll ignore the frozen water which by any logic should make it a piece of cake to find a proper water source.

So, you know what to do Rita. Find the location of the water source and use the drill.

Objectives: Use the Hydro-Detecto 2000 to find a water source. Drill in the location it tells you to.

Rewards: 100 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP, Orange Winter Vest

Reputation: (100 points toward building the camp)

Search around to find the water source then dismount your horse to use the drill. Return to Professor Einstein when you have found the water.

professor_einstein

HA! I knew it would work!

So, now we just need to harness the water for utilization, Rita.

______________

Every Loser Wins, Every Winner Loses

professor_einstein

Whilst you’ve been gathering building materials for the Equine Protection, Care, and Guardianship Facility, I’ve designed a well that’s adapted to this climate, complete with fan heaters and speakers that play soothing music specially composed for horses, built of materials that don’t require maintenance for hundreds of years.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anyone that would deliver two tons of plutonium here in under six months. This darned remote ice age valley is causing me all kinds of hassle.

Instead, I ordered this all-in-one well construction kit from JKEA. I’ve studied the instructions for hours and even though it seems to make perfect sense, it’s so horrifyingly complex that even I’m unable to actually work out how to begin. Rarely have I been forced to admit that I’ve been intellectually defeated but in this case, I give up. Every loser wins, and every winner loses. We’ll have to wait six months for the plutonium shipment, Rita.

You want to have a try? No. There’s no point, Rita. You’re putting your mental health at risk if you so much as attempt to read the first few lines.

Hmm? It can’t be that difficult, you say?! Well, I say. Try then, Rita, but I wash my hands of the whole thing. Don’t blame me if your brain explodes.

Objectives: Use the all-in-one well-building kit from JKEA to construct the well at the spot you found water. Put it together using the tool included in the kit.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: (15 points toward building the camp)

Dismount your horse and place the crate on the spot where you found water. Then use the hammer to build the well. Return to Professor Einstein when you are finished and we’ll see whose head explodes when you complete this seemingly insurmountable task…

professor_einstein

How on earth is that possible? You managed to assemble the well!!

I’ve clearly underestimated you, Rita. Fancy, there’s finally an intellectual equal here in the valley for me to communicate with. At last, the spiritual drought I have been exposed to reaches its end!

Tell me dear Rita, what are your thoughts on the dynamic quantum field theory?

You don’t know much about it?

What do you think about the latest advances in seismic relativity linguistics?

It doesn’t sound especially interesting to you?

…

…

It was probably just luck that was on your side when you managed to build the well, Rita. Well, back to the desert of my soul.

Quest completed

______________

PROJECT EPCGF-01X

professor_einstein

We can get started with the construction of the Equine Protection, Care, and Guardianship Facility now that we’ve gathered the necessary materials. Shouldn’t we find a simpler name for it, by the way, Rita?

We’ll call it simply, Project EPCGF-01X. Simple and logical!

Start by placing the logs on the sites I’ve marked out. It shouldn’t take longer than 58 seconds; get a move on so we can continue with the next step.

Objectives: Lay down the logs on the places indicated by Professor Einstein.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

The stable will be built near the new well. Place the logs for the frame, then return to Professor Einstein when you are finished.

professor_einstein

Magnificent. Now we can proceed with the next steps of Project EPCGF-01X.

Quest completed

______________

Planks for Strength

professor_einstein

The logs you’ve erected, according to my durability calculations, won’t stand up to the pressures that Project EPCGF-01X will no doubt place upon them.

This is why you should of course mount these planks – which I so accurately foresaw the necessity of – on the logs in order to reinforce the construction.

Objectives: Mount the planks on the logs where Professor Einstein has indicated.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

Place a plank, then use the hammer to set it in place. Do this to all of the planks, then return to Professor Einstein.

professor_einstein

Sumptuous. We’ve now arrived at the next stage of Project EPCGF-01X: roof assembly.

Quest completed

______________

Future Proof Future Roof

professor_einstein

With the frame now constructed, Project EPCGF-01X is on track to completion, and our next step is to install a roof. My initial idea was to cast the latest nano-materials with built-in solar cells, but hopes of finding a modern roof were dashed, as always, by this brutish environment.

After weighing all the alternatives against each other, I eventually came to the conclusion that the cloth the hot air balloon is made of would suffice, even if it is a sub-optimal alternative.

I’ve cut a piece of the canvas with perfect measurements, so you only need to attach it above the logs.

It’s an incredibly easy task, I expect you see you back very soon.

Objectives: Assemble the roof on Project EPCGF-01X.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

Place the balloon cloth as the roof on the the new stable then return to Professor Einstein when you are finished.

professor_einstein

Sublime. Now we’ve arrived at the final step in Project EPCGF-01X: laying the floor.

Quest completed

______________

Instead of Concrete and Diamonds

professor_einstein

Project EPCGF-01X can now be rounded off with one final task: the construction of the floor. Instead of a concrete floor with an industrial diamond coating with would have held up for millions of years, I have – after sincere and determined consideration – reached the conclusion that the fir branches you collected will have to do.

Lay out the branches as flooring, Rita.

Objectives: Lay the floor and complete Project EPCGF-01X.

Reputation: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Reputation: (25 points toward building the camp)

Lay down the fir branches and your new stable will be complete from top to bottom!

professor_einstein

Exquisite. Project EPCGF-01X has reached completion. I think we’ve done a good job Rita, let’s give ourselves a little applause.

So, enough with all this giddiness. We have a near-eternity left before this place can be thought of as adequate for even the most rudimentary research.

Quest completed

______________

The Calculations Promise Near-Certainty

professor_einstein

According to my calculations, we can almost certainly count on the mail having been delivered now. Ride over and check the mailbox, Rita.

Objectives: Check to see if any mail has arrived at Nic Stoneground’s camp.

Rewards: 65 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: (15 toward building the camp)

Retrieve the mail like everyone seems to think you were born to do.

professor_einstein

So, were my calculations correct? Was there any mail?

Two letters!!

The chance of that was indeed slight, but not zero. We should be grateful that “luck” seems to be on our side for once.

Quest completed

______________

Rational People Don’t Eat Hay

professor_einstein

Well, well, yet another salesman wants to set up shop here at our camp. Hmm…

He wants to sell hay, apples, picnic baskets, that sort of thing. Who in the world wants to buy hay? What rational person would eat hay?!

Horses, you say? Ah true, horses do eat hay. Biology isn’t my best subject, you see.

Well, you’ll have to collect this person. A hay-shop isn’t something I expected in my calculations, but I suppose it can’t do any harm? The person in question has sent the letter from Valedale and writes that he intends to go here on foot.

Hmm… The letter was sent several days ago so it’s odd that we’ve yet to meet this person. Ride towards Valedale and see if you can find out what’s happened, Rita.

Objectives: Ride to Valedale and see if you can find the shopkeeper trying to get to Nic Stoneground’s camp.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

You’ll find the wayward shopkeeper at the top of the old elevator.

trond

Hello! Is it me you’re looking for?

Quest completed

______________

An Elevatorphobe’s Nightmare

trond

I’ve been standing here for two full days trying to figure out how I’m going to get down. I don’t like elevators, you see.

I’d probably dare to go down the elevator if I didn’t have all this heavy stuff with me. It weights so much, what if it’s overloaded and collapses?!

You’ve used the elevator with your horse, you say? Well, I suppose it weighs quite a lot, so that’s quite reassuring…

 But, but…

What if the elevator got all worn out when you’ve been riding up and down in it with that horse?! It may not be built for such strain. Have you ever considered that?!

What?

You can go down with the merchandise in the elevator for me? Wow, that’d be perfect! Thank you very much!

Objectives: take the goods and leave them by the bottom of the elevator.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

Take Trond’s goods to the bottom of the elevator, then ride back up and speak to him.

trond

Hello again! Are the goods in place at the bottom of the elevator?

Fantastic! Now it’s just me that needs to get down…

Quest completed

______________

So Close, Yet So Far…

trond

Like I said, I don’t like elevators.

Or, well, “don’t like” is probably putting it a little mildly, hehe.

I go into a full and horrifying panic just from being near an elevator, so I’m sure you’ll understand why I got a little bit stuck here. I’ve really tried, but it just never works out… It’s probably best if I just turn around and move to Silverglade Village; it’s nice and flat there, and there’s not an elevator to be seen.

You’ll help me? Oh, how lovely!

Get up on your horse? Okay, but, umm… How will we get down if we don’t take the elevator? You know a way? Okay, I trust you but just don’t ride too close to that elevator!

Objectives: Get yourselves down the cliff without using the elevator.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: (15 points toward building the camp)

Take the trail down the side of the cliff that you used when you first discovered the valley. You do not have to race down this time. Drop Trond off at the bottom where you left his crates.

trond

Whew! Finally down! That’s probably the scariest thing I’ve ever done… Using an elevator suddenly doesn’t feel quite so scary.

Quest completed

Return to Trond tomorrow.

Instead of StarTop Cola and Tuna

professor_einstein

Here’s the letter we’ve been waiting for Rita! Something that always pull the tourists in is food. I usually get by on tinned tuna and StarTop Cola. 8 liters for 40 Jorvik Shillings, but most people aren’t as rational as you and I, and happily spend a small fortune on their food.

Anyway, this chap Ed Field seems to be bouncing off the walls with excitement of opening a restaurant here. He apparently runs Jorvik’s most successful guest house, the Wolf Hall Inn, but his entrepreneurial senses see the huge business opportunity in being the first to start up at our up-and-coming tourist magnet!

I honestly believe he’s a little bit insane Rita… To run a successful restaurant here is even more impossible than calculating the exact value of Pi, but people have achieved the impossible before… Everyone said the universe was going to explode, but I managed to divide by zero and it rather seems as though the universe is still here!

Rita, before I overload your poor little brain, you should ride over to this Ed Field character and see what his intentions are.

Objectives: Ride out and talk to Ed Field at Wolf Hall Inn.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

Speak to Ed Field in front of the Wolf Hall Inn, in Harvest Counties.

ed_field

Hey there Rita! What can I do for you?

Quest completed

______________

Restaurant at the End of the Universe

ed_field

Rita! Did Professor Einstein send you? Awesome!

This idea is absolutely epic: opening another restaurant there, another branch of the Wolf Hall Inn empire!

An incredible roadside hangout where bus-loads of tourists are gonna stop, eat my culinary masterpieces and see entertainingly entertaining entertainment!

I’m way too busy to do this myself, so I’m leaving the responsibility to one of my best employees. Our new kitchen assistant Igor is showing tons of promise, and has really been eager to advance!

He’s going to be perfect as our new chef-waiter-bouncer-tour group leader-manager-cabaret artist!

No way, Rita! I’m not insane! Haha!

It won’t work to just set him loose on the job without first seeing what he’s made of. He’s only been here two days so there’s a chance I’ve misjudged him, even if I am an amazing judge of character.

You can chat to him if you like… See if you can find any cracks in his amazing personality!

Objectives: Talk to Igor.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

Dismount your horse to enter the door into the kitchen. Speak to Igor inside.

igor

Hehe…

Quest completed

______________

We Don’t Endorse Main Course Horse

igor

Hehehe… Dinosaurs… Sounds delicious! Hehe…

So, you’re taking me to the Valley of the Hidden Dinosaur? Hehe… On board your glorious horse… I saw it outside… What’s its name? Icerunner? Hehe… A little salt… A couple hours in the oven… An apple stuffed into the mouth… Hehe… What? Do I want to eat Icerunner?

Oh, no, no, no, Icerunner is safe now my sweet child, I’d never do such a thing… I promise. Hehehe…

Mmmmm…

(Igor licks his lips and seems to have forgotten that he’s staring pretty intensely at Icerunner. You decide it’s best to speak to Ed Field again.)

Objectives: Tell Ed Field about Igor.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

Exit the kitchen and speak to Ed Field about your creeps from Igor.

ed_field

He wanted to EAT Icerunner?! Are you sure?!

Quest completed

______________

One-Too-Many Cooks?

ed_field

Now, now, let’s not be hasty! All geniuses are a little eccentric and I’m sure he didn’t mean it seriously… He was joking with you! Chefs and cooks, y’know… Always a little bit special. Haha!

You don’t think he was joking and that he wants to actually eat your actual horse?

Yeah, yeah, well let’s not get all hung up on the details. This is like one of those problems-that-isn’t-really-a-problem kinda things. Like, imagine if we didn’t have a chef at all? THAT would be a problem.

Well anyway, if you don’t think he’s up to the job, then we’ll just have to test him out.

Hmm…

Try and come up with some ways to put his cookery talents to the test, at the same time giving him a trial run on his financial and entertainment skills. If he doesn’t pass the test, I promise we’ll find someone else!

Objectives: Talk to Igor again.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

Return to the kitchen and tell Igor about your plans to test him.

igor

Hehe… Mmm, Icerunner… I’ve missed you… Hehe…

Quest completed

______________

Everyone Loves Cake and Hotdogs!

igor

So Rita… Hehe… You want proof that I can really make delicious flavorful food?

Okay, I’ll make for you my signature dish, Rita… Hehe… I call it Igor’s Paradiso Luxury Taste-Party Gateaux… Hehe… Mmmmm…

You need to help me find some luxury ingredients, Rita… Hehe… Eggs, flour, sugar, cream, strawberries, and one secret special magic ingredient… Hotdogs… Mmmm… Hehe… None of those ingredients are here in the pantry, but they’re certainly in Mr Ed Field’s storage… Hehe…

Get them for me, Rita… Secure those delicious goods for Igor… Hehe… Mmm…

Away with you now, Rita… But you, Icerunner… You can stay here, you big beauty…

What?! I won’t eat Icerunner, Rita… I promise… Hehe… So off you go, Rita…

(You really don’t trust Igor. Who knows what’ll end up in the food if he gets to run the restaurant? You think it’s best to find some other ingredients than those he’s asked for, just to make sure the tests don’t go as well as they should.)

Objectives: Find fake ingredients for Igor.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

Leave the kitchen and search around the Wolf Hall Inn to find things for Igor to cook with.

Billiards balls, stones, and rotten eggs. Luxury ingredients, indeed.

Return to Igor when you have found all of your ‘luxury ingredients.’

igor

Ooohhh thank you… Hehe…

Soon, you will have the joy of tasting the finest food you’ve ever eaten… Hehe…

Quest completed

Let’s see now… Hehe… Take a step back so I can prepare my Paradiso Luxury Taste-Party Gateaux… Hehe…

You too, Icerunner… We wouldn’t want anything to happen to you… Not right now, anyway… Hehe…

So there we have it… Into the oven goes the cake… Hehe…

Objectives: Talk to Igor again.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

Eck, do you smell that??

igor

Viola! Igor’s Paradiso Luxury Taste-Party Gateaux! Hehe…

Hmm… Doesn’t smell quite like normal…

igor

Hehe… Would you like to try some delicious, delicious cake, Rita? Hehe… Almost as delicious as barbequed hor… Hehe… Of course, umm… I don’t eat horses… Hehe… Mmmmm…

You think Mr Ed Field should have the honor of tasting the first bite?

That’s very noble of you Rita, hehe… Well, well, I really hope he likes it, Rita… Hehe…

Objectives: Give Igor’s Paradiso Luxury Taste-Party Gateaux to Ed Field.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 60 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

I claim no responsibility for this!

ed_field

Bring the train wreck of a cake to Ed Field.

Oooh! Check that out! What a creation! Igor’s Paradiso Luxury Taste-Party Gateaux! I just have to try it.

Chomp! Hmm…

Scoff! Ooooooohhhh…

This… This is…

THIS IS THE GREATEST CAKE I’VE EVER EATEN! PARADISO INDEED!

Quest completed

Well, that didn’t go as planned. Return to the kitchen to try another test on Igor.

Instead of a Guitar

igor

Hehe… So Mr Ed Field wants to see if I can give the guests an entertainingly entertaining time? Hehe… He…

He.

….

Errrrmmmm… Entertainment isn’t exactly my thing… Hehe… But I can maybe play a little guitar for the guests… Hehe… Bring my guitar to me, Rita…

(You really don’t trust Igor. Who knows what’ll end up in the food if he gets to run the restaurant? You think it’s best to find some other kind of instrument for Igor instead of his guitar, just to make sure the tests don’t go as well as they should.)

Objectives: Find some other kind of instrument than a guitar for Igor to play.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

Exit the kitchen and see if you can find some other kind of instrument. Return to Igor when you have found your prize.

igor

Umm, Rita… That’s not a guitar… Hehe…

What, is that all? Hehe… Oh, Rita…

Quest completed

______________

The Dulcet Tones of a Birchwood Horn

igor

Hehe… Are you sure Mr Ed Field will like this? Hehe… I’ve never played a birchwood horn before, Rita… It’s not at all hard you say? Mr Ed Field loves wind instruments? Hehe… Okay then, Rita… But what should I play? Mr Ed Field can’t get enough of progressive improvised jazz, you say? Hehe… Okay then, Rita… Hehe…

Objectives: Ask Ed Field what he thought of Igor’s entertainment.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 45 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

Beautiful, err, music?

ed_field

…

…

Sniffle!

Magic. Simply magic.

Who knew Igor was such a wonderfully gifted musician? He’s going to be a runaway hit with the guests with those kinds of beautiful melodies. So beautifully gentle… Reminds me of my mama’s lullabies. I feel so relaxed and harmonized…

Quest completed

That definitely didn’t go as planned. Return to the kitchen to give Igor one more test as a last ditch effort to ruin his chances of going to Dino Valley.

An Unexpected Test

igor

Hehe… Oh, Rita… You want proof that I can handle finances?

Hehe… I swear I’m an economic maverick, Rita… I swear this to you, my friend… Hehe… I actually have a degree from the University of Jorvik in business economics… Hehe… Here, take a look at my precious certificate… Hehe… It’s beautiful, Rita… So beautiful… Hehe…

Take a look over there, Rita… Look very closely at my ledger hehe… It shows every single Jorvik Shilling that I’ve spent on food here at Wolf Hall Inn… Hehe… Mmm…

Show it to Mr Ed Field and he’ll surely see that my finances are made of solid gold… Hehe… He has nothing to worry about, Rita… Tell him Igor will never let him down, hehe…

(You really don’t trust Igor. Who knows what’ll end up in the food if he gets to run the restaurant? If you had a pen, you could add a few extra zeros here and there, just to fiddle with the ledger and make sure Ed Field sees that the tests don’t go as well as they should for Igor.)

Objectives: Falsify the numbers in Igor’s ledger and give it to Ed Field.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

Pick up the pen on the kitchen counter, then use it on the ledger that is set out on the table near the door.

When you are done messing things up, take the ledger out to Ed Field.

ed_field

Oooh! A ledger? Igor has recorded every single Jorvik Shilling he’s spent here at Wolf Hall Inn? Magic! What attention to detail he’s got!

I should read it very carefully, you say? Is that really necessary?

Okay, okay, I’ll take a closer look.

Now, let’s see here…

…

… 2lb flour, 200 Jorvik Shillings! Hmm…

…

… 1 gallon of milk, 5,000 Jorvik Shillings! Oooookaaaayy…

…

… 1 egg, 100,000 Jorvik Shillings!!!

Oh my gosh Rita, I don’t know what to say…

…

THE GUY IS A FLAMING GENIUS! He truly knows what we should be spending money on! This 100,000 Jorvik Shilling egg must have been something truly incredible, obviously worth every single Shilling! There’s always a price for quality, Rita, that’s what I always say! You get what you pay for in this world!

Good News for Some

ed_field

Sweet! Like, megasweet!

Igor exceeds every expectation I could ever have had!

Rita, couldn’t you take him with you on horseback to the Valley of the Hidden Dinosaur?

No? Alright, no worries. I’ll arrange transport for him, you just need to meet him there. Go give him the good news, Rita!

Objectives: Give Igor the good news.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

Well, at least we tried…

Return to the kitchen and tell Igor that he gets to go.

igor

Hehe… I passed the tests, Rita?

Mr Ed Field was happy? Hehe… I knew he would be…

A Difference of Transport-Based Opinion

So, I’ll just jump behind you on Icerunner?

No? Hehe… And I was looking forward to getting to know Icerunner a lot better… Hehe…

Mr Ed Field maybe has arranged for me to have a horse of my own… Hehe… Perfect… I was starting to get a little hungry… Ask Mr Ed Field about it… Hehe…

Objectives: Talk to Ed Field again.

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: (10 points toward building the camp)

Tell Ed Field what you think about Igor’s idea.

ed_field

What?! Igor wants to EAT a horse?

Hahaha! He’s just joking with you, I’m sure. What a guy, eh? It’s just awesome that he has such epic humor!

Quest completed

Sweeter Than a Kitten

ed_field

I’ve got a car to take him to Valedale, so don’t worry. Hmm? You don’t trust him at all? For real, you mean?

Hmm… Okay, okay. I’ve got total confidence in Igor but I can of course try and work something out, since it’s you, Rita.

Igor is amazing in every way, but he’s going to be so busy with the restaurant that it’s probably best I send one of my best employees along with you both.

Here’s my keychain. Unlock the door to the storage up there and tell Franke to come here. You don’t need to worry, Franke’s a diamond guy with a heart of gold… He gets a little bit aggro sometimes, but just give him this chicken leg and he’ll be putty in your hands. Sweeter than a kitten.

Objectives: Unlock the door to Ed Field’s storage and talk to Franke.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: (5 points toward building the camp)

Go up to the storage and dismount your horse to use the key.

Speak to Ydris at Nilmer’s Highland.

A New Way of Getting to the Circus

ydris

Hello Rita. Sure, wouldn’t it be lovely if you could visit me a little more often? And if the visit was somehow made easier? Hm?

Y’know what? Go and open that package over there and see what’s inside.

Objectives: Open the package near to Yrdis.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

If facing the Ydris, the package will be behind you, near the entrance to the meadow. Speak to Ydris after you open the package.

ydris

Well, look at that. A horse trailer. Who’d have thought? With this trailer, you and all the other riders can come here as often as you’d like. Wonderful, no?

Hmm? A bit small? What are you talking about, “too small to use”? Maybe it’s your horse that’s too big, ever thought about it that way?

Hmm… So it has to be bigger. I get it. Well yeah, that’s not impossible to organize.

Wait, it IS impossible? Why would you say that, Rita? Nothing’s impossible at Circus Ydris!

Quest completed

______________

Five Five-Leaf Clovers!

ydris

I’d love to help you increase the size of the horse trailer in the package to a real-life sized trailer if you’d like… You want to do it? Can’t be done you say?! Don’t you know that here at my circus, the only limit to what can be done is the limit of your imagination? Hm?

Now, let me help you! Find me five five-leaf clovers so I can make them into a magic mixture that will solve all your problems!

Hm? Why five-leaf clovers? There’s a mysterious rarity to the five-leaf clover that makes it even more magical and rare and special and wonderful than even the luckiest four-leaf clover! Why? Well, it’s a mystery of course! If we didn’t leave a little mystery, than magic wouldn’t be much fun, now would it Rita?

Objectives: Find five five-leaf clovers for Ydris.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Ride around in the meadow behind Ydris to find the clovers. Pick up five of them, then return to Ydris.

 ydris

Five five-leaf clovers! Perfecto!

Quest completed

______________

A Hat for the Five-Leaf Clovers

ydris

For my magical mixture to gain its magic powers, it needs to be mixed up in a magic hat. Why? Without a magic hat, there’s not much magic, wouldn’t you think?

You’ve got a circus ticket, right Rita? If you haven’t got it with you, you can get it from your stable. Nobody gets in without a ticket!

In the Big Top, one of my hats is just sitting there waiting for you. Without the hat, I won’t be able to help you with the trailer, see? No hat, no trailer. No socks, no shoes! No hair, no haircut! Wait, what? I should be able to do this without a hat? Only our imaginations are the limit of what’s possible?

Hmm, you’re right, I did say that, but there are rules, Rita! Rules we all have to follow! Even me. Don’t even try to understand; you’re better off not knowing…

Objectives: Get a hat from the Big Top for Ydris.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Use your magic circus ticket (which like the Aideen’s light fragment, can’t be deleted, so if it isn’t in your inventory, it should be in your stable closet) to enter the circus tent. Ride across the ring to pick up the magic hat, then exit the tent to return it Ydris.

ydris

Ooh! You found the hat! Do you feel the magical powers coming from it? Ahh, magic… You can feel it tingling all over! Heehee!

Now I’m going to mix into a mixture the magical mixy mixture! This is gonna turn your tiny trailer into a tip-top trailer!

Abra…

Caaaa…

Darn it!

Abracadabra!!

Awh, shoot! It doesn’t work.

Hmm…

Quest completed

______________

A Special Ingredient

ydris

Seems it needs more powerful ingredients than just the four-leaf clovers! You know what, Rita? Nearby is a powerful man who can help us. A mystical, magical man of magical mysticism. I’m not sure he knows it himself, but his sauces aren’t only known for their magical flavors, in some… circles… but yes! They’re also known for their magical POWERS!

Do you know Ed Field? Oh, you do? Lovely.

Ride over and see him. Ask him for a bottle of his special sauce.

Objectives: Talk to Ed Field and ask for a bottle of the special sauce.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 5 with Wolf Hall Inn

Ride across the bridge to speak to Ed Field.

ed_field

Hey, hey Rita!

My special sauce?

You’re too late! I just shipped off a massive delivery to the creepy swamp in Goldenhills Valley. Someone living there has really developed a taste for it!

Quest completed

______________

Pick Up Some Sticks From the Forest

ed_field

Don’t pout now, Rita! It’s amazing that so many flavor connoisseurs all over Jorvik have opened their eyes to the incredible flavor taste sensations of Ed Field’s Special Sauce!

You know what? I’m going to get started on a fresh batch right away! If you help out a little, it’ll go extra fast. What do you say? Amazing!

The secret of my special sauce is some certain special ingredients, you see… You’ve probably heard about how all the top chefs use a secret blend of herbs and spices, or a secret blend of vegetables in their salads, or a secret blend of flavors in their ice cream? You know already? Well I can certain see I’m not talking to some random amateur here! Haha! Anyway! In my special sauce I use a secret blend of many different sorts of… WOOD!

YES! WOOD! Wood from different trees! GENIUS!

The first type of wood I need is from the trees in Greendale. If you go grab me a whole bunch of sticks from those trees, I’ll fire up the stove and get everything ready. You don’t need to be too picky; regular old sticks off the ground are fine.

Bye!

Objectives: Get some sticks from Greendale and give them to Ed Field.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 15 with Wolf Hall Inn

Wander around the Greendale Forest and pick up enough sticks for Ed Field. When you have found them, return to Ed.

ed_field

Omnomnom! These sticks are perfect! Salty and delicious!

Quest completed

______________

Airy Wood from Nilmer’s Highland

ed_field

A type of wood that makes my sauce extra delicious comes from the trees that grow over the bridge in Nilmer’s Highland. It has a kind of airy quality, if you get my drift? You know what? Ask that circus ringmaster Ydris if he knows any suitable trees with delicious wood for the sauce. He looks like the academic type, with his little assistant and all. Probably knows lots about wood.

Good luck! See you soon!

Objectives: Ride over and talk to Ydris.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Wolf Hall Inn

Ride back across the bridge and speak with Ydris.

ydris

Hmm… So Ed Field needs wood from Nilmer’s Highland for his sauce? My goodness, that man is some kind of extraordinary genius.

Quest completed

______________

Gather the Magical Sticks from the Forest

ydris

Well, keep your eyes on the ground Rita and pick up the twigs you come across. Come back to me afterwards so I can try them out and see if you’ve got the right twigs with the strongest powers.

Objectives: Find twigs and sticks on the ground in Nilmer’s Highland and head back to Ydris.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Reputation: 5 with Wolf Hall Inn

Ride around near the abandoned farm and pick up the sticks that you find. Return to Ydris when you have enough.

ydris

Aaaaaa….

….

Hmm… These sticks are full of the powers of Nilmer. They’ll be perfect.

Quest completed

Reward: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 25 with Wolf Hall Inn

Return to Ed Field with the magical sticks.

ed_field

Yeah! These sticks are going to be perfect!

Quest completed

______________

Rich and Smoky Wood from Hollow Woods

ed_field

For that rich and dark flavor of bark, only wood from Hollow Woods will do! Oooh, my mouth is starting to water just thinking about it. Go and chat to that little oddball, Avalon. That guy with his hood always pulled down like he’s afraid of the sun or something! You know who I mean? Oh, you know him? Great! He seems to know all about this kind of stuff!

Objectives: Ride and talk to Avalon.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 5 XP

Reputation: 5 with Wolf Hall Inn

Ride or transport to Valedale and speak with Avalon by his house across the river.

So, how can I help you? Ed Field needs wood from Hollow Woods to make his special sauce?

Interesting.

Quest completed

______________

Gather Rich and Smoky Twigs in the Forest

faceless_druid

The kinds of twigs you’re looking for, Rita, are quite difficult to find. They’re around somewhere but you need to have a pretty thorough look through all of Hollow Woods if you’re to have a chance of finding as many as you need. Quest completed

Wood From Firgrove

ed_field

It has to be perfect Rita, otherwise it’s not worth trying to make the sauce. You know what I mean? I’ve been playing around for ages with different types of wood before I found the final twigs to make the perfect sauce. The sour but ever so slightly sweet wood from the trees at Firgrove. Ride there and talk to Minka; she’ll know where you get good sticks.

Objectives: Ride and talk with Minka.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 5 with Wolf Hall Inn

Ride or transport to Firgrove and speak to Minka at the start of the Firgrove forest races.

Life Goes On at the Sunfield Farm

filip_sunfield

Hello Rita! Lovely to see you again. It’s good you stopped by actually, there’s tons to do here! So much so that I was close to forgetting my wife’s birthday! She’s absolutely terrifying if I miss it, and she’d probably kill me if I forgot it again after forgetting it last year! I haven’t got the time to get her a present though, there’s way too much for me to be getting on with here at the farm, and by the time I’m done, the shops will be closed.

Any bright ideas?

Flowers? Yeah! She loves flowers! Great idea!

Reckon I could ask you a favor? Could you gather a few flowers and give her a little bouquet? You can? Excellent! Thanks!

Pick some flowers and give them to her from me. Don’t forget to wish her a happy birthday!

Objectives: Pick some flowers and give them to Martina Sunfield.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

Lazy bastard can’t even deliver his own damn gift. Well then…

Pro tip! This is exactly how NOT to be with your significant other!

martina_sunfield

Oh, what lovely flowers! Are they for me? From Filip! Oh, my husband is just too adorable! Just to think, he forgot my birthday last year and knew I would’ve had a word or two to say if he did it again this year!

Hmm… Listen, Rita, here at the farm, there’s always lots to do! If you could help us out with a few little jobs, it’d give Filip and I a little time over to build up our new company. It’s something we’ve been thinking about for so long, but never had time to do.

(Complete your daily tasks with the Sunfields to increase our reputation with them.)

Return to Saga when you are Friendly with the Sunfield Family.

Hello Rita. I’ve got a message for you. I’m right in thinking I can trust you not to tell anyone, right? It’s a little bit sensitive…

See, Isolde asked me if I knew anybody who could help her with a sensitive task and I thought of you immediately. She really wants to talk to Tristan and try to set things right between them but he just refuses to talk to her.

Would you be able to talk to Isolde? She really needs your help.

Objectives: Talk to Isolde Goldspur.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

The Sister’s Plea

isolde_goldspur

Thanks for stepping up Rita, I’ve no idea what I should do. Seems like Tristan blames me and Loke for everything, even though it was him who caused all the trouble. Pff. He’s so immature.

Me and Loke want us all to be friends again, but I don’t know how I can make Tristan understand. Can you talk to him Rita? As soon as I try to talk to him, he just narrows his eyes at me and turns away. You’ll talk to him?

Oh wow, thanks Rita!

Objectives: Talk to Tristan Goldspur.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 15 XP

You can find Tristan in the pigpen on the Sunfield farm.

Haven’t you already done enough to mess things up for me Rita?! What do you want now?

My sister wants me and her to be friends again? And Loke as well?!

How dare she?! Grr…

It’s her fault! All of this is her fault! Her and Loke… If they’d never met, then I’d never have had to steal those stupid chickens. Why do I have to work here with these filthy pigs? Should be Loke doing this, not me.

Everything is Loke’s, Isolde’s, and YOUR fault, Rita. You can tell her that from me.

Now get lost!

Objectives: Talk to Isolde Goldspur.

Rewards: 150 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP, Green Mocha Boots

That’s some sound logic there, boy.

Return to Isolde with the message from Tristan.

isolde_goldspur

What did he say?

Oh. Why does he have to be so stupid and immature? I’m just worried for him and want the best for him…

Here Rita, I wanted to give these to Tristan but I don’t think he’d ever accept them. You take them instead.

Do you think Tristan will ever change sometime, Rita? You think he will? Well I guess we should never give up hope, you’re right.

See you around Rita, take care.

He’s really interested in locally produced goods and ingredients and when I told him we make everything here on the farm, he went bananas with excitement! He didn’t want to buy the products without a little taste test first, so could you ride over with these samples I’ve prepared for him? That’d be great!

Pardoning a Criminal

filip_sunfield

Tristan really has changed, don’t you think, Rita? He works hard from morning until night without whining or complaining. Yesterday, at sunset, I told him he was done for the day, but he said he couldn’t possibly finish until he was through with the task he’d started.

Not just that, Rita. Before, he would be lazy and cut corners but now he does everything brilliantly and finishes everything to total perfection. I couldn’t even do what he does as well as he does it!

He’s truly changed, and I think he’s served his punishment but I’d like to know what his mum, Idun, has to say about it. She’s also part of this and I don’t want to act without her opinion.

Rita, could you ride over there and ask Idun Goldspur if she agrees I could release Tristan?

Objectives: Ask Idun Goldspur if she thinks Tristan has served his punishment.

Hmm… I’ve heard a lot of good from Isolde about him lately. She’s talk to him when she’s been down to say hello to the Sunfields and she says he seems to have changed.

Know what?

I trust Isolde and I trust Filip, and if they say he’s ready, then he’s ready.

Let Filip know I’ve come to a decision and that I agree with him; Tristan’s paid his dues. Ha! That’s lovely, isn’t it? I’ll soon see my little soldier again!

What happened?

I saw Tor go down towards the sea and I just ran after him. Before I could make it, he’d wondered out onto the jetty… It all went so fast, and suddenly I saw him fall into the water and he didn’t come back up again.

I threw myself into the water and dived down. In the end, I found him and swam up towards the jetty, and just about managed to get him up onto land, even though I was already so tired. By the time you got here, I was really starting to struggle, I just didn’t have the strength to lift myself back up again. If it wasn’t for you, I’d be a goner.

Thank you so much Rita, you saved my life.

A Well-Earned Punishment

filip_sunfield

Oh, Tristan, how could I have doubted you? You risked your own life to save my son, and I assumed you’d ran away… I’m so sorry.

You’re a true hero, and not some little delinquent to be held down, chained to my farm. You’re free; your punishment is fulfilled. Get yourself home to Goldspur Farm and give your mother a huge hug… She’s missed you more than she’d ever let you know.

You’re always welcome here, Tristan. From this moment on you’re an honorary Sunfield. Go now, but don’t stay away too long before you come back and see us again.

Objectives: Talk to Tristan.

Rewards: 1000 Jorvik Shillings, 300 XP, Leafy Spring Bridle, Leafy Spring Saddle

See Tristan’s transformation from a little delinquent to a responsible honorary Sunfield become complete.

tristan_goldspur

I’m free, Rita! I’m free!

It actually doesn’t feel like much to celebrate. I really enjoyed working hard and doing the best I could.

In the beginning, I hated my punishment, but now I really think I’ve changed; now I’m the person I always wanted to be but could never bring myself to try being. You know what, from now on I’m going to work hard and do my best in everything I do. I’ve got you to thank for this Rita… Now it’s time for my new life to start! The first thing I’m gonna do is go home and apologize to my sister and Loke for all the trouble I’ve caused. I don’t know if I can ever make it up to them, but I’m certainly gonna try. Rita, I hope we meet again. You can come by Goldspur Farm and hang out with me anytime. Promise you’ll stop by!

See ya Rita!

To the Harvest Counties

mr_bucket

I just thought of something, Rita!

You like horses, don’t you? I though so, I’m pretty clever sometimes! I don’t know exactly how I knew it, it must have been some subtle clues about you that I picked up on.

You know, Jarlaheim is right beside Jorvik Stables. Jorvik Stables is the most famous stable on Jorvik. You have to go and visit it. I promise you won’t regret it! If you see Herman, the guy who runs the stables, give him my best!

You need to go now? Okay, I understand. You are going to speak with the man who was waving from the other side of the bridge? Did you see him?

Talk to him. He looked like he wanted something.

We’ll see you in Jarlaheim, Rita!

Objectives: Ride over the bridge to the Harvest Counties and speak with the man on the other side of the bridge.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings

Off we go, to lands unknown!

The Other Side of the Bridge

ed_field

Am I imagining things?

A guest!

A GUEST!!

WELCOME TO THE INN!

What? You aren’t interested in coming in right now? You only want to know how to get to Jorvik Stables? Sigh… My first guest in many years and it was only a mirage.

But the bridge is fixed now? Is it really true?

Ride to the other side of the bridge and back so that I can see it really works. Ride!

Objectives: Ride over the bridge, then back to the innkeeper.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Do as Ed asks, then return to him.

ed_field

Nice!

The bridge is completely repaired! This is fantastic! I am Ed Field, the Harvest Counties first, best looking, and in reality the only innkeeper. Welcome!

One Stop on the Way

ed_field

I’ll help you get to Jorvik Stables, but first you need to help me a little bit first. What? Extortion?

Why would I do anything like that?

Nah… You help me and I’ll help you. This is just exchange of services. Please! I really need your help and I can’t do it myself. Please, please, please!

You will? Thank you, thank you!

Okay. First I’ll need a pen and paper to write down all the thinks we need to do. I don’t remember exactly where I put them… But they are somewhere around here. Can you find them for me?

Objectives: Fetch a pen and some paper for Ed Field. They are nearby.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Collect the pen and paper that are sitting around near the inn and bring them to Ed.

ed_field

Excellent! Now I am going to write up a list of everything that we need to get done. I feel like my brain might explode!

What is your name? Rita? This is going to be great, Rita!

Quest completed

The Fuel Tank

ed_field

Hmm…

What to write… Where to begin… There’s so much…

Completely still… My brain is running on maximum rev but I can’t seem to change gears… Oh, oh, oh…

You! Fetch my thinking hat! How could I forget? It won’t work without it!

It must be somewhere nearby, but I can’t remember where I put it… If I search down here, you can check out the height over there, okay?

Objectives: Fetch Ed Field’s thinking hat which he has misplaced somewhere on the height behind the inn.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 15 with Wolf Hall Inn

Ride around and search for Ed’s hat, then return to him when you have found it.

ed_field

Look! There’s my sweet hat! Now I’m gonna think insanely well!

There we go. Now it’s sitting as it should. Are you ready? Ready for a truckload of amazing ideas? Excited to behold the hatching of the next Nobel Prize theory? Sit back and enjoy the world’s foremost one-man brainstormer. NO. Brainhurricaner!!

Okay. Okay. The brain is picking up cyclone speed! Hold on!

Hmm… The first thin we’ll need is a modern name. Something cool, globally, luxurious, a little family friendly, a little organic…

Mmm… Wait, don’t disturb me…

I GOT IT!

WOLF HALL INN!

BEAUTIFUL! What a perfect name! It reminds me of what the inn was called once, but it’s brand new and fresh at the same time? This will be perfect!

NICE!

Weeding for the Guests

ed_field

Wow… No I’m exhausted… It’s an effort to think of all these great ideas, and there is still so much to do…

You can help? How very kind!

Okay. It’s very kind of you and I won’t keep you much longer, I promise. You’ve seen all the weeds and stuff that grows here, right? It’s frightening off the customers. Here’s my old chainsaw, borrow it and clear away all the thistles and things.

Objectives: Remove any undergrowth around the inn with the chainsaw.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Wolf Hall Inn

Dismount your horse to use the chainsaw. Clear all the weeds around the inn, then return to Ed.

ed_field

Wow! What a difference it made! Now everything looks top fresh!

The New Jorvikian Kitchen

ed_field

You know, one problem with Wolf Hall In is that we’re stuck in past times… Look at this old menu I found.

This won’t work, it’s food for the 00’s!

If we’re going to put Wolf Hall Inn on the map, we have to spice up the menu! I can think up some amazing dishes if I just get some inspiration.

Search for exciting ingredients that I can create great dishes with, and I’ll use my thinking hat to brainhurricane forth a three star menu in no time.

Okay? Good! In the meantime, I’ll wait here and stretch mentally. I don’t want to pull my brain, you see. It’s been a while since I thought this heavy thoughts.

Objectives: Find ingredients for new and exciting dishes that can be served at the inn.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Wolf Hall Inn

Organic is the way to go these days. Search around the inn for all natural ingredients, then return to Ed.

ed_field

Let’s see. This will be perfect. I can feel the inspiration flowing. Hold on, a cyclone is brewing in my brain again!

Listen!

Starter: Ed Field’s rare summerchops on a bed of noodles in tomato sauce.

Main course: Fried corn balls a la Summerblaze. Served with an exciting salad made of the neighbors’ fruits and the finest American sauces.

Dessert: Surprise, Rita. A lovely brown sorbet, made with gifts from the king of the forest, with crispy meat sauce on a mirror of freshly harvested corn. Served with hot red sauce.

I’m a genius! A fresh crossover mix of traditional Jorvikian kitchen, inspired by American food, but with a touch of Asia and honest, classic European finesse. A truckload of NICE!

Hey!

Hey, you know what?

I’m opening this place. I can’t wait any longer. WOLF HALL INN IS OPEN!

Quest completed

______________

Through Mountain, Through Forest

ed_field

Thank you for your aid, Rita. Now I will keep my promise and tell you how to get to Jorvik Stables.

Ride like this. Continue on the road due west and take a left at the mountain pass. Continue through the mountain pass and into Greendale Forest. Keep to the road and you’ll soon see the coast again. There you’ll see a small cottage where the Pike family live.

They usually deliver fish and seafood to the inn, so while you’re there you might as well deliver Mrs Pike this order from me. Can you do it?

Awesome! People can certainly rely on you, Rita.

Here, take my chainsaw with you. The road through the mountain pass has become overgrown, so you need to cut through the shrubbery to get through.

Tell Mrs Pike to show you the rest of the way to Jorvik Stables once you see her.

Good luck Rita, we’ll meet again!

Objectives: Clear away the bushes blocking the passage to Greendale and speak to Mrs Pike living by the coast.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Ride up the road to Greendale. Dismount your horse to clear all of the brush. When it is all clear, continue riding through Greendale Forest. You will see Mrs Pike at the end of the road.

mrs_pike

Hello there, who are you?

I haven’t seen anyone on the road through Greendale Valley in a very long time…

Quest completed

______________

Unwelcome Message in a Bottle

mrs_pike

Could you help me with something while you’re here?

It happens to be that the road south is closed now. I don’t really know why, but a year ago our neighbor Harold put up a fence between our lands. We’ve always gotten along well, but suddenly, overnight, there was a fence there! We haven’t heard from him since, only seen him from a distance, where he walks over his field with a sunken head. I’ve called upon him, but he hasn’t even looked in my direction.

Besides our broken friendship, it has caused other problems. For instance, bottles from his bottling plant have started to float ashore on our beach. I don’t know why he’s throwing the bottles into the sea, but could you ride down to the beach below and pick up all the bottles you can find?

Thanks, that was kind of you!

Objectives: Pick up the beached bottles and bring them to Mrs Pike.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

What a shame…

Ride down on the beach and pick up all the bottles. Return to Mrs Pike with the bottles.

mrs_pike

Thanks, that was kind of you. I guess I should tell the Council about this issue, but something tells me our neighbor Harold has enough problems for now. Something must have happened, it’s not normal for someone to shield themselves from the world like this…

Quest completed

______________

Further Towards Jorvik Stables

mrs_pike

An order from the inn? That’s good, we really need the income now that the road down south is closed as well. That Ed Field has a nose for business, it’s be a boost for the entire county if he gets the inn up and running again.

You want to go to Jorvik Stable? Well, just continue along the coast due west until you reach Jarlaheim. Ride through the city and you’ll soon see the stable.

However, if you’re going to Jarlaheim, talk to Jack Goldspur by the City Hall, he’s the city’s new mayor. I’m just not sure if Jack is the right man for the job. He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, if you get my drift. Hehe. Luckily his sister Jill helps him at least. They really need all the help they can get, so talk to Jack to see if there is anything you can do. The whole county would appreciate if if you could help the city back on its feet.

Alright, I won’t take up more of your precious time. Ride west on the main road, that’s all you really need to know.

Objectives: Ride along the coast to Jarlaheim and speak to Jack Goldspur.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Follow the road west to Jarlaheim. Ride into the city center and you’ll find the large City Hall past the town square and water fountain. Speak with Jack in front of the City Hall.

jack_goldspur

Howdy doody! I’m Jack Goldspur. It’s nice with a new face in town. So, who are you?

Quest completed

______________

The Reluctant Mayor

jack_goldspur

Hey Rita, welcome to Jarlaheim! Pride of Southern Jorvik and the world’s favorite place! What can I do for you, Rita?

You need to see Herman?

Okay.

That was terribly typical. That’s like the only thing I can’t help you with. Herman is gone, disappeared, nowhere to be found! When I need him the most, he goes on vacation! Do you have any idea how much trouble that causes me?

Why do I need Herman? Well, I happen to be the mayor of Jarlaheim, a very honorable duty! Why me? No one else wanted it, so Herman asked me if I would accept this respectable position. Excellent, I thought. As mayor I’ll get to experience fine dining, movie premieres, cool parties, and lots of nice gifts all the time!

But it isn’t at all like that! I’m just shuffling paper all day, how boring is that! I told Herman, but he said I should be proud of the responsibility, work hard and be a role model for the city residents.

Responsibility? Leadership? Role model? Bah! Yuck! Fie! You hear for yourself how incredibly boring it is…

I’ve tried to get a hold of Herman to get him to withdraw this worthless job, but I can’t because he’s on vacation. I’m stuck!

However, you can’t fool this guy that easily. Listen closely. I’ve come up with an awesome idea! I’ve called for election, because I’m quitting.

Someone else can take over this drudging job. Ha!

What? Oh, yes. What did you want, Rita? Get to Jorvik Stables?

I know Johanna who works at Jorvik Stables. If you help me with my awesome plan, I’ll call and tell her that you need to get a hold of Herman. She might be able to help you. Do we have a deal? Good!

Take these ballots for the new election and pass them out here in the city, and I’ll prepare the next step of my plan. You should take the opportunity to check out the city in the meantime. See ya!

Objectives: Pass out the ballots for the new election in the city.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

TL;DR, Jack is a big whiner and gets you to help him get out of doing actual work. That’s about all there is to him. No depth of character here, carry on…

Post all of the ballots into the mailboxes located around the city, then return to Jack when you are finished.

jack_goldspur

Did it go well? Nice!

Okay, now it’s time to start the next part of the plan. We have to find new candidates for this money job. I’ve already spoken to the most eligible, but they weren’t willing when I asked them. However, if you do it instead, then they’ll have to say yes!

I should have asked if they wanted to set up before you handed out the ballots? Oh! It’s these kind of boring rules and stuff that makes me not want this money job, get it?

Quest completed

______________

To Paddock Island with Inquiries

jack_goldspur

Alright. The first candidate that people can vote for is Dorith Jarlasson of Paddock Island, the head of the Jarlasson family. She’s always been a calm and quiet person, working hard all her life. She’s very interested in the history of the Harvest Counties and is passionate about the city. In short, she is super boring, drier than the Sahara, and thus perfect for the job!

Sigh. What if my mom hadn’t disappeared without a trace. My mother?

Yes, Evelyn Goldspur, the real mayor. One day, a few months ago, she just vanished and nobody has heard a peep from her since. Everyone has been looking all over for her, but there is no trace of her. Crazy mysterious!

We’ll have to talk about that another time. Ride off and talk to Dorith on Paddock Island now. Ask her nicely Rita, and fingers crossed she’ll accept!

Objectives: Ask Dorith Jarlasson on Paddock Island if she wants to run for election.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Losing your mother still doesn’t make me feel bad for you. Honest work is good for you, Jack…

Ride out to Paddock Island, and you’ll find Dorith walking around close to the farmhouse.

dorith_jarlasson

Run for mayor? I’ve already told Jack I wasn’t going to…

Quest completed

______________

Dorith Jarlasson as Mayor?

dorith_jarlasson

You can tell Jack I won’t run for election. We have too much to do here at the farm, so many difficult things have happened.

It’s so sad about Evelyn. It’s hard to imagine a better mayor. One day everything was normal, and the next she was vanished. What happened?

The only think I know is that she was attending the inauguration of the opening of G.E.D’s new mine in the mountains, but she obviously never made it. Ms Drake got in touch during the evening and wondered why Evelyn hadn’t attended the ceremony, apparently she was going to sue the city for insult and lost marketing opportunities or something.

You’ll have to ask someone else, I was so busy here at the farm, I hardly know any details.

Give Jack my regards and tell him to find someone else.

Objectives: Ride back to Jack.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Go back to Jarlaheim and give Jack the news.

jack_goldspur

Sigh. So Dorith, that old carcass, didn’t want to run? Typical.

Quest completed

______________

Dad as Mayor

jack_goldspur

The next guy that would be perfect is my dad, Jakob Goldspur. He would be an awesome mayor. He’s very clever and he helped my mother a lot when she was the mayor.

Ask my dad if he would like to run. He’s said no like a hundred times in the past, but if you were the one to ask him, he might change his mind.

He should actually run! If he hadn’t told me to be the mayor, I’d never taken the job, no matter how cool Herman said it was. But, I’m a guy who does what his parents tell him. Besides not going to school and having parties at home… But other than that I’m an awesome son, get it?

Good luck Rita, keeping my fingers crossed for you, super hard!

Objectives: Ask Jack Goldspur if he would like to run for office.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Ride up to the farm near the windmill and speak with Jakob walking around in the area.

jakob_goldspur

Ooohh! I’ve told Jack a hundred times I won’t run!

Quest completed

______________

Jakob Isn’t Interested

jakob_goldspur

Why won’t Jack give up? I’ve told him a hundred times I don’t want to be mayor. It’s too painful to take the job which my lovely wife used to have. I would be reminded of her every day, I couldn’t bear it.

Do you know what happened? No? Right, you’re new in the county. My wife, Evelyn Goldspur, was mayor in Jarlaheim. She made the city prosper and everyone loved her. Then, one day, she vanished. I waved goodbye to her in the morning, and the only thing I know is that she was going to the opening ceremony of G.E.D’s new mine in the evening. But apparently she never showed, and nobody knows where she went. What I think?

I don’t know… It’s strange we didn’t find a single clue, and no one has seen her since she left office in the city… I know she lives. If something had happened, I’d know it.

Sigh. Tell my son he’ll have to find some other mayor.

Objectives: Ride back to Jack.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

More bad news for Jack…

jack_goldspur

Sigh. So dad won’t run? Typical.

Quest completed

______________

Educated, Somber, and Boring is Perfect!

jack_goldspur

Sigh. What if my mom was here Rita? She would know exactly what to do about this.

Okay, talk to Filip Sunfield then. He’s the same age as I am, but goody-goody, educated, and incredibly boring. He seems to be precisely the kind of guy people in this city like.

Nah, I haven’t talked to him. He doesn’t seem he takes me seriously, so I figured there was no point. But maybe you’ll have more luck with him?

Make an attempt in any case, okay? Ask Filip Sunfield if he would run for office. Good luck and stuff.

Objectives: Ask Filip Sunfield if he would run for office.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

The Sunfield farm is between Jorvik Stables and Jarlaheim. You’ll find Filip there.

filip_sunfield

Hey there! Who are you? Rita. Nice to meet you, my name is Filip, and I run the Sunfield farm with my family. If I want to be mayor?

Quest completed

______________

Not While There is Still a Chance

filip_sunfield

No, Rita, I can’t run for the office of mayor. Evelyn was a good friend and I know in my heart she still lives. If I took her seat as mayor, it would be to admit her death, and I can’t do that.

What happened? I do’t know… She was here for the lunch the same day and everything seemed normal. She was attending the inauguration of G.E.D’s new mine in the evening and it sounded to her she didn’t look much forward to it. She and Ms Drake, head of Jarlaheim G.E.D. didn’t see eye to eye, but she was attending nevertheless, as the city’s representative.

I’m sorry, Rita. Tell Jack he’ll have to find someone else.

Objectives: Ride back to Jack.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

Oh poop, looks like Jack is stuck with some dependable employment… Darn…

jack_goldspur

Sigh. Filip didn’t want to be mayor. How typical.

Quest completed

Return to Jack tomorrow.

Let’s see if Jack’s sister, Jill, has anything actually productive to do.

Unwilling to Sign

jill_goldspur

Good day. With whom am I speaking? Rita.

Rita, how lovely to meet you. I noticed you were talking to my brother Jack. He isn’t… How should I put this? He doesn’t have the necessary capability to function as mayor. But our father insisted he should take the job! I’m guessing he wants Jack to grow up and learn to take responsibility. Things are like they are now. Jack is the mayor and I’m trying to salvage the situation, as usual.

I apologize, I will not bore you with our family affairs. But as you understand, I’m busy trying to get Jack to do what he should.

Would you be able to help me with a little something? You would? Thanks, Rita.

It’s very simple. Jan Jarlasson submitted an application for a building permit several weeks ago. It’s routine work and Jack should have signed off on the application the same day it arrived. Could you get him to sign off on this paper? When I ask him he just waves it away.

Objectives: Ask Jack to sign off on Jan Jarlasson’s building permit application.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

You want me to sign off on Jan Jarlosson’s building permit application? Oohh! Can’t it wait?! It’s so incredibly boring to shuffle paper and stuff, why must I do this?

Can’t we play a video game or something instead, Rita?

Only one paper? You promise? Okay. Since you helped me handing out those ballots, I’ll be nice to you. Okay, here’s the pen.

So. Now my name is on the paper. This is so incrediblyyyy booooring!

You get why I’m trying to do as little as possible, right?

Objectives: Give the signed application to Jill.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 10 XP

It scares me Jack shares a striking resemblance to real life politicians D:

jill_goldspur

Did Jack sign it?

Fantastic! Jan Jarlasson will be happy. Hmm. Know what, Rita? I believe you’ll be of great help here in the city. I’ll keep an eye out for more issues the residents need help with. I’ll let you know if anything comes up.
