The Sleeping Widow

linda

Yawn… I’ve been looking all night and I think I’ve found an old note from the mid-18th century.

Listen to this:

Objectives: Listen to what Linda has to say about the Sleeping Widow.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

And so Linda recounts her findings.

linda

The legend of the Sleeping Widow goes back far in time. When the light of Aideen spread over Jorvik and life was brought to the island, a handful of Life Wardens were created, whose task it was to guard the growing life, to shield it, and to give warning if the flora and fauna of the island were ever threatened.

quest-primeval_tree

These Life Wardens were brought into existence in the form of trees, who would forever live on Jorvik. The humans discovered these trees, respected them, and let them live. The humans understood the trees were special, ancient, and that they served a higher purpose. The humans came to call them Primeval Trees.

The Primeval Trees had different looks and abilities and were much stronger and more magnificent in the olden days; their glory days. Today most of the trees slumber. They sleep. Tired and haggard. Lessened in power not least by the exploitation of Jorvik’s natural resources.

It is said that the roots of the Primeval Trees penetrate all of Jorvik, and that the roots are linked together in an enormous network through which they can communicate.

Awesome, huh? Like an ancient internet! Kinda…

linda

You want to hear a little more, right?

It’s a fantastic story which I just have to share with you, and it’s important that you understand.

quest-scarecrow_hill_tree

You and I know of one of these Primeval Trees: the one on top of Scarecrow Hill. As the legend of the Golden Apple foretold, the witches have actually destroyed several Primeval Trees, but they only went for the trees that produce the golden apples, which the wicked witches shun. Other Primeval Trees were left alone.

According to my writings, some kindhearted witches have actually made alliances with the Primeval Trees to help strengthen their magical powers.

At least half a dozen Primeval Trees are known to exist today, mentioned in various records. There could be a lot more. In one place, one of the trees goes by the name of the Sleeping Widow.

To understand this, we need to go far back in history, but I’ll be brief.

quest-forgotten_fields_trees

Once upon a time, the Forgotten Fields was a dense, enormous forest. At least as magnificent as Greendale. The forest was protected by two Primeval Trees, which constituted a happy couple. Everything was great, they were happy together and to the forest flourished – until the earl built Jarlaheim.

When Jarlaheim was built, a great part of the forest was cut down, and the growing population in the area took down more of the forest to make both firewood and more building materials. A stable was also needed for the earl’s cavalry. Jorvik Stables was built, which later housed hundreds of horses.

As more and more of the forest was destroyed, the landscape opened up and made room for necessary grazing grounds where all the earl’s horses could graze and run around during the day.

quest-primeval_stump

In the blind eagerness of mankind, which often arises in their simple minds during times of great expanse, the foresters unfortunately cut down one of the two Primeval Trees in the area. It was a grievous mistake but the damage was already done, and it was irreversible. The surviving Primeval Tree became lonely, and it grieved over the loss of its life companion.

She lost her will to live. Through her grief, and through mankind’s eager destruction and the grazing and stomping of the earl’s horses, the forest eventually died.

During the centuries that have passed since the Primeval Tree became lonely, her wailing has sometimes been heard on the wind. A wail much like a persistent howl, which chases around with the gusts across the windswept hills.

And so there stood one lonely Primeval Tree, and the Forgotten Fields.

The area got its current name – the Forgotten Fields – after the earl’s cavalry and all the horses were no longer needed in Jorvik Stables.

The lost forest and the grazing grounds were later forgotten, since the area no longer served any purpose for the humans.

So much grief, for such a short chapter in history.

They say that the wailing of the Primeval Tree can no longer be heard. It’s not because she has stopped grieving, but rather that she has fallen asleep of exhaustion, resignation, and sorrow. She’s on death’s door, if she isn’t dead already. But we hope she isn’t, of course.

With this knowledge is mind, it’s an easy conclusion to draw that the old tree in the southwest corner of the Forgotten Fields actually is identical to this “Sleeping Widow.”

How everything is connected to Lisa’s current critical location in Pandoria I can’t quite figure out. But if she says the tree must be woken, I guess we’ll wake it.

I myself, would have tried to make my way to Pandoria and tried to save her there, but it’s extremely risky, not to mention impossible to return from there after…

But how do you wake a magical, slumbering Primeval Tree?

linda

Moving tale. Poor Primeval Trees…

Quest completed

______________

Awakening Help

linda

I think you should talk to Elizabeth directly. It seems obvious that this Primeval Tree, the Sleeping Widow, can’t just be woken up by a regular alarm clock. If anyone has any idea of what kind of magic would be required to awake a slumbering Primeval Tree, it must be Elizabeth.

And Rita, I have a certain feeling you’ll get to use your fragment of Aideen’s Light. If you’re not already carrying it in your bag, you should stop by the supply in your stable and bring it with you to Elizabeth. That would save you a lot of time.

Good luck!

Objectives: Ask Elizabeth’s advice. Bring your fragment of Aideen’s Light. You’ll find it in your bag or in the supply of your stable.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

The Aideen’s Light item is unable to be deleted, so if it is not in your inventory, you will find it in your closet in your home stable. You do not need it to complete this quest but you will need it for the following quests.

Ride or transport to Valedale and speak to Elizabeth near her house.

 elizabeth_sunbeam

What a tale. What turn of events! We must indeed awake the Sleeping Widow to see if she can rescue Lisa. If Lisa says it is so, then it must be the way to rescue her from Pandoria. If it doesn’t work, we’ll try to find another way.

Hmm… Maybe the roots of this Primeval Tree reach farther than we could ever expect.

Anyway. I know of two things that can shake that ancient Primeval Tree enough to give it the energy it needs to wake up. The tree needs light, strength, and water. You must do three things.

One. Fill a bottle of Aideen’s Tears. You know, the dew from Aideen’s flowers that grow around here.

Two. Energize the fragment of Aideen’s Light by the rune stones up here, in the same way you did last time. You need to have the fragment with you.

If you don’t have it in your bag, you’ll find it in the supply in your stable.

You can’t have rid yourself of it, so it has to be somewhere, I promise you that.

The third thing you need to do is to illuminate the tree with the energized fragment, and water it with Aideen’s Tears, and these two tasks needs to be performed at night. During the night the magic is undisturbed by the bustle of daytime, and the effect of Aideen’s power is so much stronger.

Quest completed

______________

Energize the Fragment of Aideen’s Light

elizabeth_sunbeam

Take the rune staff and ride up to the rune stones behind the house here, and energize your fragment of Aideen’s Light. This time, do it like this: First, use the rune staff on the rune stone of the sun, and then place the fragment onto the rune stone to energize the shard with the light of Aideen.

If you can’t find the fragment in your bag, you’re guaranteed to have it in the supply of your home stable. You know, a white, shining stone… I know you can’t have lost it.

Objectives: Use the rune staff on the rune stone of the sun, and energize the fragment with power by placing it on the rune stone.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Again, you’ll need the fragment item to complete this quest. It cannot be deleted so it is either in your personal inventory or in your stable inventory.

Go up the hill behind Elizabeth’s house to the open area with the rune stones. Dismount your horse and approach the one with the sun symbol on it. First use the rune staff that was placed in your inventory, to activate the stone. Then use the fragment on the stone to energize it.

When you have energized the fragment, return to Elizabeth.

elizabeth_sunbeam

Magnificent! The fragment has been energized with great power!

Quest completed

______________

Gather Tears of Aideen

elizabeth_sunbeam

Take this purple, tear-shaped bottle and gather up as much dew as you can find on the flowers of Aideen. You’ll need it to water the Primeval Tree, the Sleeping Widow.

Objectives: Gather dew from the flowers of Aideen.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 20 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Use the purple bottle on the flowers behind the Valedale stable. They are the same ones you collect from during the regular daily quest.

When you have filled the bottle, return to Elizabeth.

elizabeth_sunbeam

You filled the bottle! Good job. Here, take the full bottle with you.

Quest completed

______________

Sum It All Up

elizabeth_sunbeam

You’re ready to go to the Sleeping Widow. Wait for the night, then wake her. On your way, take the detour past Starshine and update him with the turn of events so he’ll know what’s going on and is ready to help Lisa out of the crack. Provided you succeed in waking the tree.

Objectives: Take a detour by Starshine before you make your way to the Sleeping Widow.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride out to Harvest Counties and find Starshine where you last left him by the Pandoric Rift.

Rita! Neigh! How’s it going! I’ve almost lost touch with Lisa and this blasted crack is about to close on itself. Panic!

So you found out who the Sleeping Widow is?! Do tell!

Beneath the Branches of the Primeval Tree

starshine

So the Sleeping Widow is a Primeval Tree? Interesting. It’s not that far fetched an idea.

Well done, Rita! Not to mention Linda, too! Now that’s hope that whatever is binding Lisa and the Sleeping Widow’s fate together also saves Lisa.

We’ll have our answer tonight.

Nee-ei-igh! I’ll stay behind, ready to help Lisa when you wake the Primeval Tree. I’m sure to be able to keep the crack open until midnight at least.

Get on your way to the Primeval Tree on the Forgotten Fields, and wait until nightfall to perform the necessary rituals. Best of luck!

May the light of Aideen be with you.

Objectives: Ride to the Primeval Tree in the southeastern corner of the Forgotten Fields and await nightfall.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

The location of the tree is marked on your minimap. It is in a small valley behind a large plateau near the water. Approach the tree to complete the quest.

The Primeval Tree slumbers deeply. It’s surrounded by an aura of heavy grief, and an overwhelming weakness washes over you, as if the tree relentlessly weighs you down with its great sadness over the mistakes of mankind. Mistakes that made this tree lose its beloved life companion…

In this state of mind, it’s going to be hard staying awake until tonight’s big task…

Quest completed

Crackle… Creeeeeakk…

Crackle… Let’s wait and watch… Let me think and creak and crackle for a little while… It’s been a long time since my branches murmured and my mind crept into action.

Let’s creak and crackle here for a while.

I promised Lisa, and promises are made to be kept, even those made to humans… Hmm. But why should I keep a promise to the people who betrayed me?

But you are more than that. You’re not only humans. You’re the bringers of Aideen’s Light.

Creak. And crackle…

dark_rider2

HA! Now we got you and your wretched horse! Hahaha!

This is what happens when you go about watering trees in the middle of the night.

Hahahaha! Haaaaa!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

dark_rider

Hahaha! We got you now, Rita! We will make mincemeat of you and your horse and send you off to the blissful pastures of Pandoria’s eternal prison!

You cannot get away.

Justin? Grab onto her. Now!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

dark_justin

Huh? Me?!

Why me? I know her…

Or, I mean…

You’re the one who’s holding the chains.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

STOP!

Stop! Be gone, you spineless weasels!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

dark_rider

L-L-Lisa!

But… But… We have you imprisoned in Pandoria?!

How is this possible?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Not so confident now, are we? Your knees are shaking all over now that you’re not hiding in ambush. Cowardly lowlifes.

You may outnumber us, but you don’t scare me. I’ll give you a taste of your own medicine!

But… By the Light of Aideen! Justin!

What are you doing with those fools?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

dark_justin

Wha…

Me? Well, I… I thought that…

Umm… I mean…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

You can’t seriously have joined… Those guys?

For real? Joined Dark Core?!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

dark_rider

He’s one of us now! Mr Sands is his grandfather and he has joined the true side. Our side!

The dark side!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

dark_justin

Yes, precisely!

It is true, Lisa. I’ve made an alliance with my grandfather and I know and trust I’m doing the right thing. I can feel it in my heart.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Whoa… I can tell I’ve been gone from this island far too long…

Sigh.

Very well! Stand there with the others, Justin. If that’s what you truly want. Stand there and face the same fate as your new found “friends.”

Eat this!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

dark_rider

Ahhh! Run away! Run! Lisa’s gone insane! Arghh!

Get away from here! Run!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Hahaha! That made them run. Ha! It was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

They got away, but they all learned a lesson. This time I only intended to scare them.

I think the danger has passed. For this time.

Approach Lisa to complete the quest.

lisa

Hi Rita! It’s so good to see a friendly face again! Whooo! Starshine told me that you and Summerblaze were on the way here, you’re a real hero!

You made the Sleeping Widow save me, and Starshine was able to help me out of the crack and away from that horrid Pandoria. No words can describe how grateful we are that you saved me from that place! It was quite the ordeal, I’ll tell you.

But enough about me. Are you okay? You’re not hurt?

Quest completed

A Shimmering Star

lisa

Oh! I see it, your poor Summerblaze is seriously injured! That was a nasty trap. I can heal your friend if you like. As you might know, the Circle of the Star is the power I’m most able to master, and that the Star symbolizes the power of healing?

Let me heal the poor horse.

Objectives: Let Lisa try to heal your horse’s injuries.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Watch as Lisa heals your horse.

lisa

Look at that! That went better than expected. Your beautiful Summerblaze is right as rain. That was a mean trap. Nothing to toy around with. Those Dark Riders shouldn’t be keeping such dangerous items in their arsenal.

Quest completed

______________

Lisa’s Tale

lisa

I’m really grateful you saved me. I mean it. It wasn’t a pleasant experience being imprisoned in Pandoria, I can tell you that much (shiver). Those idiots I just scared off succeeded in ambushing Starshine and I when we were off guard.

This time the story had a happy ending, but this cannot happen again! We really need to be on our watch now, right Rita?

Objectives: Listen to Lisa.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Recount the past events to Lisa.

lisa

Alright. I understand things have been happening on the island?

I haven’t paid much attention to any ongoing events myself, since I’ve more or less been stuck in Pandoria ever since I last stepped into Jorvik Stables. Of course, I could tell you lots of fun stories from my time as a touring rock star, but that’s hardly important right now. We can do that later. And between you and I, Rita, it’s not that cool and glamorous to be a rock star. I’ll have you know, it’s a lot of hard work and stressful tour schedules to keep. And fame isn’t everything.

It’s nice to be back here where my face isn’t that well recognized. At least not any more. The fans forget you quickly, haha! But my friends last forever. I hope you and I will become good friends.

Anyway. Enough about that.

A Night of Much Needed Rest

lisa

You’re right, Rita. We must see the others and meet the druids. I was thinking the same. At least I’ll get an update on the state of things. But before all that I’ll need a change of clothes and a good rest. And something to eat.

Let’s wait with the druids until tomorrow. Rest and recovery goes above all else at this time. I also owe a favor to the Sleeping Widow. But that’ll have to come later.

Objectives: A night’s rest…

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Speak to Lisa again.

lisa

After these escapades, we really need rest. Tomorrow you can ride to Elizabeth and tell her I’m back, so she can summon the druids to a meeting.

I’ll see you later at the meeting. And listen, once again, a big thank you!

Goodnight!

Quest completed

You’ll be transported back to your home stable. Ride or transport to Valedale and speak to Elizabeth by her house.

Follow Up in The Secret Stone Circle

elizabeth_sunbeam

Lisa’s been rescued?! Great news. I wasn’t sure you’d succeed, but Aideen’s light shine strong in you, and you handle great challenges well. You are a true hero.

I’ll summon the druids for a meeting in the Secret Stone Circle immediately. See you there!

Objectives: Partake in the meeting in the Secret Stone Circle. Talk to Elizabeth later.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride up behind Elizabeth’s house to the spiral path and follow the path around to the center and into the portal to the Secret Stone Ring.

fripp

Hi again! And a big thank you to you, Rita. Together with Starshine, you managed to save Lisa! Finally Lisa’s back.

Brilliant!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

Really, Rita! Great work!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

It’s good to be back and see you all! I’ve really missed you! At one point I thought I’d never see daylight again. But now I’m here again, with all my friends.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

fripp

The Soul Riders are almost at full strength, and soon we’ll have gathered all four partial copies of the Light Ceremony book. When we’re ready and the time has come, we’ll perform the Light Ceremony and be protected. For now though, the time isn’t right.

Lisa, you should know that Dark Core has their hands on the original Light Ceremony Book. Everything points to that they’ll attempt to conduct the ceremony backwards, which will catastrophic consequences.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

That doesn’t sound good at all! What will they gain by this? What is their goal?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

fripp

If they perform the ceremony backwards, the crack between our reality and Pandoria will widen. In the worst case, that which keeps our worlds separated will tear apart. What exactly happens next, we don’t really know. One guess is that both our worlds will cease to exist. Or at least cease existing in the form and shape we know today.

Dark Core thinks they’ll be able to control the enormous flow of Pandoric energy, and will likely use it in an attempt to seize control of the world. Maybe they know something we don’t, but the druids are convinced it cannot lead to anything good…

It will probably lead to the end of the world, so it needs to be stopped at all costs.

That was a brief summary of the current situation.

Lisa, could you tell us what happened to you? You were kidnapped and taken to Pandoria?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

As you all know, I was on a world tour with my rock band and I’d been away from Jorvik for a while. When I finally ended my tour and came back to Jorvik, those ill-witted Dark Riders succeeded in ambushing Starshine and me. Then they imprisoned me in the horrific world of Pandoria.

Starshine and I weren’t on our guard. That’s a mistake we’ll never repeat.

Later I was rescued, as you all know. Thank goodness. In Pandoria I got in touch with the Primeval Tree, the Sleeping Widow. It was blurred and unclear, but her roots seemed to penetrate even into the unknown world of Pandoria. The Primeval Tree slept in our world, but in the dreamscape of Pandoria she could reach out to me and communicate.

She said she could help me out of Pandoria, but the only way to do so was to wake her up. As a gesture in return, I was to help her with something. I don’t know what yet, but I plan to find out.

My time in Pandoria is incoherent and blurred, but one other thing happened. I got a strong feeling Anne was there at the same time as me. It wasn’t just a weak sensation. I could really feel her presence and it was clear. Because of this, I’m convinced Anne is there, and we have to try to save her.

Maybe the Primeval Tree can help us again, I don’t know…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

fripp

Interesting news. Maybe Anne is in Pandoria. It would be great if we could locate her and save her as well. I would go so far as to say it’s completely necessary. In a worst case scenario, it would require a rescue operation in Pandoria, but that’d have to be our last resort.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

elizabeth_sunbeam

At full strength, we would be very powerful! We’d also need to be aware of the dangers of a trip to Pandoria. One does not simply walk into Pandoria.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

alex

I am not afraid! We have to save her no matter what the risk. We owe it to her. If we have the slightest lead, we have to follow it up.

We’re always there for each other one hundred percent!

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

Yes, Alex. We’ll do that. No doubt about it. I don’t long to go back, but for Anne’s sake…

Hmm… Another matter. I wonder if we can lure Justin away from the grip of the Dark Riders? He an I went to the same school, I know him a little.

And Rita, you know him a bit too, right?

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

elizabeth_sunbeam

If we can remove Justin from Dark Core and the Dark Riders, they’ll weaken even more. It’s true. At least Rita stopped Justin from turning his horse into a Dark Horse. That’s good.

Last time Rita visited the headquarters of Dark Core and saw Justin, he seemed quite determined to continue to work for the dark side.

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

lisa

We’ll have to think of something to make him change his mind. Hmm…

-.-.-.-.-.-.-

fripp

If you could remove Justin from Dark Core, it would be a massive achievement. But for now we’ll focus on the Light Ceremony we’ll be performing when the time is right. We’ll also keep an eye on any movements the Dark Core makes. We also need to find the other copies of the book, and try to rescue Anne.

This meeting is adjourned for now. We’ll see each other again soon. Welcome back to reality, Lisa. And yet again, many thanks to you Rita, for your efforts for the Keepers of Aideen.

May the light of Aideen shine upon us, and scatter the darkness that surrounds us.

And listen, Lisa. Don’t forget to return the favor. The Primeval Trees have a tendency of primeval rage if they feel tricked, and the wrath of the Primeval Tree is the last thing we need just now.

See you!

When you return to reality, ride back down to Elizabeth and speak to her.

elizabeth_sunbeam

Look at that. Another druid meeting conducted.

Quest completed

______________

Rounding Off at Elizabeth’s

elizabeth_sunbeam

Did we get wiser? Lisa’s been rescued thanks to you, and we have a lead on Anne… But other than that, we’re still going over the same ground. We need to collect the other two book copies so we can prepare ourselves to perform the ceremony when the time comes.

Later we need to follow up on the information about Anne. But are we really ready to conduct a rescue operation in Pandoria? Isn’t that doomed to fail? Maybe there’s another way… Maybe the Sleeping Widow can help us again, but before that we probably have to return her favor.

Objectives: Listen to Elizabeth.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

Reputation: 10 with Keepers of Aideen

Listen to Elizabeth’s final advice.

elizabeth_sunbeam

We’ll have to keep our eyes and ears on the Dark Riders and their antics. It’s obviously important to them to destroy us, and they nearly took you to Pandoria.

We need to take counter-action.

Quest completed

Return to Lisa, at Jorvik Stables, tomorrow.

Let’s see what those soil samples turned up!

Analysis Completed

judy

I got a message from the veterinarian saying that the test results of the soil and grape sprouts are ready. Please ride over to the village and fetch them? I don’t dare to think of what they will tell us… And how the Baroness will react to that. Oh well, let’s not be overly pessimistic. Off you go!

Objectives: Fetch the tests from the veterinary in Silverglade Village

Rewards: 12 Jorvik Shillings, 65 XP

Ride to Silverglade Manor. The vet is just north of the Council Man.

vet

Hi there, are you the girl from the Manor? Good, I’ve got your test results. I’m afraid we’re looking at some badly contaminated grapevines here. I’m sorry to say it, but this does not look good at all. Wine from these grapes would probably taste like it had dish water in it. And the soil is poisoned by petroleum, as well.

Quest completed

______________

Return with the Results

vet

You had better let the others know this as soon as possible. Return to Judy right away. Be careful however; G.E.D. control these kinds of activities and probably know that these tests were done. Impossible, you say? Not to the G.E.D. Nothing is impossible when you have access to that kind of money. I wouldn’t be surprised if they knew our names and where we live as well.

Understand? Here are the test results. Watch out for the G.E.D. men on your way back to Judy!

Objectives: Ride with the test results carefully back to the Silverglade Equestrian Center. Don’t let the G.E.D. see you!

Rewards: 40 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP, Decent Shirt

Take the test results back to the Manor.

judy

Hi! Did someone see you? From G.E.D. I mean? No? Good.

Quest completed

______________

Bring Me Some Oil

judy

Oh no, things were just as bad as I suspected. Oh no! How are we going to tell this to the Baroness? She will completely freak out! I guess we’ll have to deal with that later. Right now we should do some more research. Your next mission will be to ride over to the oil field, fill this can up with some of G.E.D.’s oil, and return here so that we can do a comparison to that and the oil found on our test samples.

The oil field is north from here, just before the race track. Please remember to watch out for the G.E.D. men, I couldn’t bear to lose you!

Objectives: Collect some oil from the oil field and bring it back to Judy. Don’t let the G.E.D. men see you.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 110 XP

Now this time you really can’t let them see you! This quest works similar to the one in which you turned off the GPS devices. The G.E.D. men are walking around the oil field, and as long as you don’t act while one is standing directly in front of you, you won’t be caught. If you are caught, you will have to start the task again.

judy

Ok, this should be enough. Great work Rita. You seem like a person that could handle just about anything!

Quest completed

______________

Comparing the Samples

judy

Ok, so we’ve got this very interesting machine here in the stable that Carney got from a scientist in Holland, or something. I don’t really remember the story behind it, but what’s interesting about it is that you can do some simple analyses on it. In our case, it will be on the oil.

What I need you to do is use the machine to compare the oil on the grape sprout with that from the oil field. Get it?

Objectives: Use the machine to compare the two oil samples.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

The machine is on the table next to Carney. Use it to test the samples and speak to Carney when you’re finished.

carney

This old thing still works like a charm! Let’s see… It looks like we have the same oil in both samples. Not very surprising, do you think?

Quest completed

______________

Oily News for the Old Lady

carney

Well, someone will have to tell the old grand lady what’s happening. You’d make a rather good messenger, don’t you think, Rita? Other things to do? Nonsense! Nothing can be more important than informing the Baroness of the destruction that G.E.D. is carrying out on her land.

Off you go! Ride over to the winery to tell her.

Objectives: Ride over to the winery and tell the baroness about the oil.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 110 XP

Now would be a good time to bring out that ‘Don’t shoot the messenger’ t-shirt you’ve never worn…

baroness

You again? What now, dear? I really don’t have time to chat… What? The G.E.D.’s oil has contaminated my soil and grapevines? That’s what you came here to say! What’s the news? Please don’t come here to inform me of matters one can figure out with one’s little toe.

Quest completed

______________

Ready for Mission

baroness

I… I… Never mind. Excuse that little tantrum of mine. You could actually be of help, Rita. I have a little… experiment that I would like to try. You see, from a trustworthy informant of mine that will remain anonymous, I heard that the G.E.D. may have acquired their equipment in an inappropriate manner. And this is the drilling equipment I’m talking about.

What you could do for me is going over to the field and searching their machines for serial numbers. Copy the numbers and bring them back to me. You should take someone with you; there’s a nice girl called Sonja that would make a good companion. Have you met her? You’ll find her out at the winery fields, inspecting grapes.

Objectives: Find Sonja at the Silverglade Equestrian winery fields and ask her to accompany you to the oil field.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

Sonja can be found down in the lower terrace of the grape fields, on a white horse like Loretta’s

sonja

Yes, I’m Sonja, why? The baroness asked me to accompany you? Of course I’ll go! Inspecting grapes is very boring so I’d be happy to do anything else.

Quest completed

______________

Last One There Is An Oily Chicken!

sonja

Hey, why don’t we race to the oil field?

Objectives: Race with Sonja to the oil field.

Rewards: 30 Jorvik Shillings, 85 XP

Follow the checkpoints to the oil field. The race takes the path through the grape fields and up the hill next to the bridge.

sonja

Ok, we’re here. Are… are you sure about this? Those oil drilling guys are everywhere. We could get caught!

Quest completed

______________

A Serial Collector

sonja

Let’s do it like this: you go copy the serial numbers while I stay here keeping guard. Ok? That’ll work, right? Just keep away from those scary looking men and you’ll be fine. Probably.

Hey, here’s some paper and a pen.

Objectives: Hold the paper against 4 serial numbers and transfer them onto the notepad. Avoid being seen by the G.E.D.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 110 XP

You know the drill. Don’t get caught.

sonja

You got all of them? Oh my God, I’m so relieved. I’ve been near to peeing my pants over here!

Quest completed

______________

Racing Back to the Manor

sonja

We need to get back to the manor as fast as we can. Race me there!

Objectives: Race Sonja back to Silverglade Manor.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

This time the course goes around to the manor and back to the stable through the Manor grounds.

sonja

Whew, you’re fast, girl!

Quest completed

______________

Delivering the Serials

sonja

So, this went well! We make a good team we two, don’t you think? Anyway, it’s time for me to go back to my stable chores. You should go visit the baroness with the serial numbers. See you around!

Objectives: Deliver the serial numbers to the baroness at the winery.

Rewards: 50 Jorvik Shillings, 135 XP

Hurry back the Baroness is waiting for you!

baroness

Hello there, dear! Did you find Sonja? Good. And my serial numbers? Oh, I’m impressed! Very good work. Maybe I’ll use you for other missions in the future. You see, what you did now may come in handy in our long-drawn fight against G.E.D. Thank you very much, Rita. You did some honorable work today.

Quest completed

______________

Post the Letter with Serial Numbers

baroness

Just one more thing, dear. Take this letter with the serials and put it on the postbox that is located just at the entrance to the manor gate. This is addressed to my son Aaron that works in Jorvik City at the Jorvik Council. He will find out if there is anything fishy going on regarding these oil rigs. I have  feeling that Mr Kembell didn’t buy them in an honest deal.

Objectives: Post a letter. The post box is at Silverglade manor gate.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 140 XP

If you haven’t used the mailbox before, it is the big red box outside of the manor gate, and also located in all of the villages around Jorvik.

self

“The letter with serial numbers is now in the post box and will soon be in the hands of the baroness’ son Aaron at the Jorvik Council.”

Quest completed

The next quest starts at the black horse, Khaan, standing in the Silverglade manor stables.

Whose Horse is That?

self

“That horse looks familiar; haven’t you seen it somewhere else lately? It looks very distinctive with that glistening black coat, and the way its eyes stare right through you… You get a chill down your spine.

Wait! That mysterious gleam… It’s the same mysterious gleam that struck you when that disguised ride came by Moorland and stole Thomas’ ownership deed! You need to ask someone who owns that horse.”

Objectives: Ask Tyra who owns that black horse.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 110 XP

Tyra is standing to the west of the stable.

tyra

What? Khaan? His owner is a girl called Sabine, she’s standing over there. She’s rather new here. I think she came about  week ago; I remember that Linda showed her around. That must have been Linda’s last day here, by the way. I wonder what happened to Linda… Haven’t seen her since…

Quest completed

______________

Talking to Sabine

tyra

If she was out riding last night? At Moorland? I have no idea, ask her yourself. Doesn’t it seem a bit odd though, to be out riding in the middle of the night…?

Objectives: Ask Sabine if she was out riding at Moorland last night.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 110 XP

Sabine is up stalking around in front of the manor stables.

sabine

Um… What? I certainly haven’t been out riding in the middle of the night. Who are you, by the way, to come here with your stupid inquisitions? Excuse me? What are you implying here, exactly? That I was at Moorland? What would I be doing in that pathetic hellhole, when there’s a perfectly functional riding track here? You know what, you need to learn how to behave around other people, that’s for sure. You act like you’re five years old, for God’s sake. Please. Spare me that obnoxious baby talk.

Quest completed

______________

There’s a Riding Track Here?

sabine

And now you’re going to ask me about the riding track, too? Oh my God, you’re unbelievable. Just leave me alone, will you. If you feel a desperate need to bother someone, go to the stable girls. I’m sure they’re DYING to hear what you have to say.

Objectives: Ask Tyra about the Silverglade Manor riding track.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 110 XP

Someone has their crankypants on today. That or she’s hiding something…

tyra

The riding track? You didn’t know about that? It’s right over there, you can try it out!

Quest completed

I forgot to note the beginning dialogue for this next quest. It starts at Pauline, down the hill from Tyra, standing next to the stone wall.

Trying Out the Manor’s Riding Track

pauline

Objectives: Try out Silverglade Equestrian Center’s riding track.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 110 XP

The first of a new race for you. This race goes through the grape fields and then down and around the road near the manor.

pauline

Great track, right? I’m quite proud of it, actually. I mean… not that it’s mine or anything, but you know… being able to use it and all. I’ve been to some of the other tracks in the area and they just can’t compete with one. I don’t want to sound like a snob or anything, I’m just… thankful, or something. Ha ha, sometimes I just can’t shut up, can I? It’s great seeing you, anyway. See you around, Rita!

Quest completed

Sabine, now behind you, has had a change of heart.

Reversed Attitude

sabine

Well, that was… great! Hey, I thought about the talk we had before… We didn’t get a very good start, did we? I guess I was feeling a little insecure or whatever; I’m new here, you know. Would it be too much to ask if you could do me a small favor? Why don’t we start over, and get to know each other? Yeah? So what’s your name? Rita. Hi, Rita, I’m Sabine. Friends?

Objectives: Answer Sabine’s question.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 95 XP

Even if you don’t want to be friends, just tell her what she wants to hear.

sabine

Really? You will? Ha! Thank you so much! We will have so much fun together! Gosh, I’m so glad we worked that out. So what are you doing now? You don’t happen to know Justin Moorland, by chance? You do?! That’s fantastic!

Quest completed

______________

Sabine’s Request

sabine

Ok, so I’ve got this letter. For Justin, from a sort of… unknown relative. He needs to get it but as you know, I’m not at all familiar with the land outside the manor; I’m sure I couldn’t find my way back here if I got lost! You’re at home in Moorland, aren’t you? What, ride there together? Ha ha – I can’t be seen over there! Um… I mean, I can’t be seen there because of my… status. I have to keep to the… classier areas, you see? I’m sure you understand.

Please go to Moorland and give this letter to Justin!

Objectives: Give the letter to Justin at Moorland Stables.

Rewards: 110 Jorvik Shillings, 115 XP

Well, what Sabine doesn’t know is that all you need to do to make a place a more classier is to play lounge jazz music. Ta da! Instant class!

Ride to Moorland whichever way you see fit, and deliver the letter.

justin_mooland

Hello there, long time no see! A letter for me? Seriously? From who?

So, you’re doing well at the Manor? That’s nice. Don’t feel any pressure returning here until they can manage without you – according to what I’ve heard they’re pretty desperate for help since that girl Linda disappeared.

So, I guess I’ll open this then…

Quest completed

______________

A Message for Thomas

justin_mooland

Hey, wait… this is… What in the… I don’t know what to… You know what? I need to leave right away. This letter… If what it says is true, I…

Listen, I can’t stay. You need to tell my father that I’m going on a trip; will you do that for me? It’s… it’s my grandfather. This seems to be really important. Tell Thomas right away!

Objectives: Tell Thomas Moorland that Justin is going away to see his grandfather.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 125 XP

Thomas is out on a ride and can be found on the little rise next to the smithy, where the GPS equipment was set up earlier.

thomas_moorland

Wait, wait – what are you saying? His grandfather? This can’t be true. Please don’t let this happen! Justin absolutely can NOT see his… my… This is bad. This is really bad.

Quest completed

______________

The Fear of a Father

thomas_moorland

We need to stop Justin from leaving. There’s no time to lose!

Objectives: Hurry to the Moorland stable to stop Justin from leaving.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 125 XP

Ride with Thomas back to the stable.

thomas_moorland

This is not happening! He’s gone. My son is GONE! I’ll never forgive myself for letting this happen.

Quest completed

______________

Return to Sender

thomas_moorland

Sabine is the one who gave you the letter, you say? I don’t like that at all. Why of course I know who she is – and I know what I think and always thought of her – she’s a sneaky, insidious snake of a girl, that’s what she is. Been harassing my family for far too long now.

You were saying? Well… That’s an interesting point. You’re actually saying that you think Sabine was the cloaked rider who stole my ownership documents? I haven’t thought of that myself; always figured it was someone from the G.E.D. That makes sense, however; that girl sure has some sort of hidden agenda involving my family.

Listen, you should ride over to the manor and try to figure out more about this. We’ll need anything we can get on this girl.

Objectives: Head back to the manor and find out more about Sabin and the letter.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 125 XP

Ride back to the manor and speak with the Baroness.

baroness

Sabine? No, she left a while ago with her horse, equipment and everything. Seemed like she wasn’t going to be back. Funny, since she had just paid for a full month of stable rent.

Quest completed

______________

Who is Sabine?

baroness

You want to know more about Sabine? Frankly, I don’t know much about the girls running around in these stables. I know their names but that’s about how far my memory, or should I say interest – goes.

Hold on – Justin, you say? I’m sorry, what? He went to see my… his… Is this a joke, dear? Because if it is, it’s not funny.

Objectives: Ask the Baroness about Sabine.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 125 XP

Tell the Baroness that you, indeed, are not joking.

baroness

Well, excuse me, I… I think I need a hot bath. Immediately. GODFREY!

Quest completed

Looks like the Baroness doesn’t want to talk. In the meantime Judy needs some help over at the stable.

Horses on the Run

judy

The horses escaped the stable! They are out on the fields at front of the main building and eating… grapes! Just locate them, pat them and they will follow you back to the stable. Ride close to them, otherwise they will stop and try to escape again.

Objectives: Look around and locate the three horses. Just pat them, and they will follow you back to the stable if you stick close.

Rewards: 45 Jorvik Shillings, 300 XP

The horses aren’t hard to find. Bring them back.

judy

You found them all and took them back to the stable? Well done, Rita!

Quest completed

I think the bath has helped the Baroness decide what she wants to say to you.

A New Girl at the Stable

baroness

Rita, wait. There’s a new girl here somewhere, she has also been asking me about this Sabine. Get in touch with her; you two will be best friends in a whiff, I’m sure of that.

Objectives: Go speak to the new girl at the Silverglade Equestrian Center, Alex.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Reputation: 45 with Keepers of Aideen

Alex can be found mounted on a horse in front of the stable.

alex

Hi, nice to meet you, Rita! I’m Alex. Yes? I’m so glad you’re saying that. I’ve been trying to stop Sabine from doing harm to the people of Jorvik for some time now, and it’s hard. Actually, right now I’m trying to find a girl that used to work here but suddenly disappeared, Linda is her name. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sabine had something to do with it.

Quest completed

______________

Tracking Missing Girls

alex

What? You delivered a letter from Sabine to Justin? Uh-oh. That’s not good. And now they’re both gone…

Wait. Have you ever seen Sabine’s horse, Khaan? He looks really different from other horses; he almost has  faint glow around him. His hoof prints look special too… Like he touched the ground with his hooves burning. If we can find such hoof prints around here, maybe we will be able to track Sabine! Start looking around the stable.

Objectives: Find Khaan’s glowing hoof prints.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Reputation: 45 with Keepers of Aideen

Most of the prints can be found behind the stable to the east side. When you’ve found the trail, return to Alex.

alex

Good work, Rita! Regarding of the direction of the tracks you think it seems as if Sabine had gone towards Moorland? You may be right… Probably to meet Justin somewhere. Don’t you think?

Quest completed

______________

Hooves on Fire

alex

Let’s follow the hoof prints together! They should be easier to see now when we both know what they look like. Let’s go!

Objectives: Follow Khaan’s hoof prints to locate Sabine.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 70 XP

Reputation: 45 with Keepers of Aideen

It’s not technically a race, so you can keep pace with Alex, or follow her, or run as fast as you can. It’s up to you!

quest-adios

alex

There they are! They’re leaving the island. Oh no! This can’t be happening. This is a catastrophe… What? No, it’s just… Those containers… Sabine is taking Justin to… You know, I’m sorry, but I really can’t say more right now.

Quest completed

______________

A Message of Doom

alex

Listen, you should go tell Thomas about this. He’s Justin’s father and needs to know. I’ll see you again at the manor, ok?

Objectives: Tell Thomas what his son is doing.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 60 XP

Go break the bad news to Thomas, as much as we all hate to be the harbingers of the unfortunate.

thomas_moorland

Rita, what’s the matter? You saw Justin? Well, did you stop him?! They left on a CONTAINER? Well that’s not a nice way to travel. Oh, God, please tell me this isn’t happening. My son has been taken away! My son has been seized by the dark side!

Quest completed

______________

Rendezvous at Silverglade Manor

thomas_moorland

Thank you for the information, Rita. From now on you should put all your energy on helping Alex in her search. We need to somehow get Justin back to Moorland. You’re meeting her at the manor now? Marvelous.

Objectives: Meet up with Alex at the Silverglade Manor.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 60 XP

Reputation: 45 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride back to Alex at the stable.

alex

You told him? How did he take it? Poor Thomas.

Ok, so I spoke to the Baroness while you were in Moorland and got hold of a piece of highly interesting information. The Baroness told me that Justin is her GRANDSON. That means that Thomas Moorland is her son. Who Thomas’s father is? Good question. That I couldn’t get out of her. She went on about how that didn’t matter because he’s “long since dead”.

Quest completed

______________

Who’s Your Father?

alex

You’re right, Rita, that doesn’t make any sense. Justin claimed that he was going away to see his grandfather. As long as he isn’t going to a grave, somebody is lying, here.

Listen; there should be records of the Baroness’s past husbands at the town hall. It’s full of old registration books, right? Why don’t you ride over there and check for names?

Objectives: Head to the town hall in Silverglade Village and check the registration books for names.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 40 XP

Reputation: 25 with Keepers of Aideen

Talk to the Council Man in Silverglade Village

council_man

Hello again, what can I do for you this time? Of course, the registration books are open to the public, what exactly are you looking for? Oh, the Silverglade family? Now that could be a bit problematic… You see, there was a mysterious fire in the archives some time ago in which the Silverglade family records were the only ones to be destroyed. It’s certainly peculiar – I agree with you, miss. Strange indeed.

Quest completed

______________

Searching the Abandoned Summer House

council_man

However, all hope may not be lost. An old mayor kept copies of all the records in his summer house. It’s abandoned now and has been for decades – probably infested by kids with graffiti cans, I don’t know. Anyhow it should be pretty badly run-down. You could of course go there and see what you can find – perhaps you’ll get lucky.

The house is located in Hollow Woods’ southwestern outskirts.

Objectives: Find the old summer house in Hollow Woods. Search it for copies of records on the Silverglade family line.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 110 XP

Reputation: 25 with Keepers of Aideen

The summer house can be found by taking the mill hill road north, and about halfway to Valedale another road connects to it. Take the connecting road and the summer house is at the top of the little hill.

Go inside what’s left of the house and search the piles of rubble and refuse for the book.

self

“Among the raffle you find an old registration book about the Silverglade family line. The book is falling apart and many pages are moldy, but you find what you were searching for: 1964 the Baroness married a Mr John Sandman, registered in Firgrove.”

Quest completed

______________

Bring Back the Book

self

“You better bring the book with you back to the manor so that Alex can see it.”

Objectives: Return to Alex with the old registration book.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 55 XP, Nice Sweater

Reputation: 45 with Keepers of Aideen

Ride back to the Manor with the book.

alex

Whoa, this is one really old book – it’s practically falling apart! John Sandman, you say? I wonder who that is.

Quest completed

Return to Alex tomorrow.

It seems in all the chaos Sonja was able to slip away from her boring stable chores. She can be found riding around in the Hollow Woods. She may take some chasing to get to talk to her.

Trash in the Woods

sonja

Hi, it’s me, Sonja. I am out riding but there is so much trash in the woods so I try to clear it up so our horses and animals don’t get hurt. You can’t believe how much stuff people throw in the woods, too bad. Help me collect some trash!

Objectives: There is trash to collect! Clear the woods and make it safe for all animals.

Rewards: 22 Jorvik Shillings, 55 XP

Pick up the trash, as highlighted on your minimap.

sonja

Wow! You found a lot of trash! Great work. Now I think it’s safer to ride here and the animals in the wood won’t get hurt anymore.

Let’s go check on Thomas after his scare with the stolen documents yesterday.

Bringing the Copies to the Town Hall

thomas_moorland

I need you to make a visit to the town hall for me, ok? These copies of the deed should be there if something is to happen to the original. There will never be any doubt that I own this land again!

So listen up and I’ll tell you how to get there. Follow the Old Silverglade Road to the north, past the construction site. Don’t be afraid of the bulldozers, they won’t harm you. When you reach Firgrove Road, it’s time to take a left. There you’ll have the village. You should spend some time over there in order to get familiar with it.

Here are the documents. Hold on tight to them!

Objectives: Take the copies of Thomas’ deed to the town hall in Silverglade Village. In order to get there, take the Old Silverglade Road up north.

Rewards: 45 Jorvik Shillings, 100 XP

I take the road past Nilmer’s Highland, myself, as I think that’s faster, but it’s up to you.

You’ll find the Council Man around next to the Town Hall.

council_man

And what have we here, young lady? Ownership documents from Mr Moorland, I see, I’ll file these in a safe spot.

Quest completed

Welcome to Silverglade Village! The quests for today will get you acquainted with the residents of the area. The first to meet is Felix. He has the cute little wagon down the stairs behind Town Hall.

Flowers for the Shop

felix

You know what? I’ve been thinking that my shop might use a little cheering up – especially in the back room. Do you think that you could pick some of those beautiful spring flowers that grow just outside the village? Five would be just enough, I think.

Objectives: Find five spring flowers and deliver them to Felix at the Rockville Shop.

Rewards: 60 Jorvik Shillings, 85 XP

Apparently Silverglade is not one of those places where picking some of the local flora is illegal…

The flowers aren’t hard too find. They’re everywhere. Choose five, any five, and collect them, then return to Felix.

felix

Great, great, great! I love it! I will put them in a vase and have them in my back room to cheer me up!

Quest completed

The next character to meet is Steve, also one of my favorite characters in the game.

When the Cat is Gone

Steve asked me to lend him my mouse traps. Since his cat has disappeared, he and his horses have some kind of problem with mice… I don’t have time to bring them myself, so can you do it for me? Please?

Here are the mouse traps. Steve lives at the farm just outside Silverglade Village, to the southeast.

Objectives: Take these mouse traps to Steve at the farm just outside of Silverglade Village.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 85 XP

Follow the orange highlight to Steve’s farm.

steve

Wow, great! There are my mouse traps. Thanks, my friend. By the way, did you hear that my cat ran away? If you see him around, bring him to me. There is a reward in it for you if you find him.

Quest completed

______________

The Cat Substitute

steve

Ok mate, I got the mouse traps, but as you can see I’m very busy and can’t put them out by myself right now. Maybe you could help me? Please? Before the mice eat up my farm house.

Take these and put them out on different spots.

Objectives: Set the traps around Steve’s farm.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 85 XP

Place the traps on the orange highlights and return to Steve when you’re finished.

steve

Nicely done, mate! Don’t understand where the mice are coming from. On the nights I can hear strange sounds from the underground… I wonder if G.E.D. is drilling out the island of Jorvik from the inside?

Now we just need something to use as bait.

Quest completed

______________

Cheese Chase

steve

Hmm… My mate at the mill, Will the millman, has plenty of cheese in his storage. maybe you can ask him for some old cheese that we can use as bait? He lives just at the windmill to the north of here, you can’t miss it.

Objectives: Go to Will the mill man and ask for some old cheese for Steve.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 85 XP

Yeah, the windmill, you can’t miss it. You just can’t.

Will is standing off the road, near the windmill.

will

Ha ha ha, Steve has problems with mice at his farm? I see. Well, I don’t want to hurt the small cute animals. Let me think about what we can do to solve this… Give me a sec and talk to me again in a while.

Quest completed

______________

A Stinky Plan

will

Here I have some… cheese! My smelliest cheese ever! This will do the trick but Steve will never understand why. You see, the cheese stinks so much that the mice will flee the farm. This way we can both make Steve and the mice happy. Good solution, eh? So, here you are, I’ll let you take this to the farm.

Hey, if you ever need cheese again – feel free to come here, even if I happen to be somewhere else. My cheese is your cheese.

Objectives: Go back to Steve with the stinky cheese.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 85 XP

Mmm, cheese….

steve

Whoa, what is that horrible smell? Oh, I see, it’s the cheese that stinks… Well, great… I suppose.

Quest completed

Because for a second there I was gonna blame the horse…

/Obligatory fart joke

Happy Steve, Happy House, Happy Mice

steve

Then you just have to do one final thing for me. Can you please place this… very smelly cheese as bait in the traps? Good. That will solve the problem for me until my cat is back. Hurry up and save my farm house!

Objectives: Place the smelly cheese in every mouse trap so the mice won’t go near them or the farm. The mice are saved, and Steve’s problem is solved.

Rewards: 100 Jorvik Shillings, 135 XP, Basic Training Jacket

Return to Steve when you’ve loaded all the traps with the cheese.

steve

Well done! I hope this will end the mouse invasion and save the farm house. I still wonder what’s going on underground at nights, that may be the reason for the mouse invasion, but I can’t investigate that now…

Ask for Grain

steve

You’re lucky you weren’t here this winter, that much I’ll tell you. Never seen such a winter. I thought I had magically flown to Siberia, it was that cold! I felt sorry for the birds during that never-ending cold. How were they supposed to find food? and now these mice seem to have eaten what grain I had left in the storage. What am I supposed to feed them now?

If there’s someone who has his grain supplies filled, it’s Barney over at the silo. Would you be a star and go over there and ask for some?

Objectives: Go to the silo and ask Barney for some grain. The silo is just east of Steve’s farm.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 85 XP

Living in Wisconsin during the winters, I often think that myself.

Take the road to the east out to Barney’s silo.

barney

Grain for the birds? They had a rough winter, eh? We all did, didn’t we. I said to the wife that… that if I didn’t know better, I’d say that some gruesome, dark power reigned over the island that winter. But then again I’m getting old, aren’t I. Older than last year, anyway.

Quest completed

Return to Barney tomorrow.

Harold the baker, in Silverglade Village, needs some help.

Start from the Beginning

harold

Rita! I heard that it was you that saved Moorland from that terrible Mr Kembell! Well done. I was just going to start making pizza muffins when I found that I was out of flour. Would you please get some for me? You should be able to get it from Barney at the silo.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 85 XP

Pizza muffins? I’m intrigued…

Go back to Barney’s silo.

Quest completed

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 85 XP

And now what you’ve been waiting for as a star rider, to learn how to jump! Justin Moorland is waiting for you at Steve’s farm.

An Obstacle to Build

justin_mooland

Hello again Rita! I was out for a tour. Checking rune stones, you know. I was hoping to see you. Just wanted to see everything is fine with you.

Oh? You have not tried to jump yet? Let’s build a simple obstacle and I’ll see if I can give you a lesson. Collect some bars from behind the barn and build into a jumping obstacle right there on the pile of wooden boards.

Objectives: Find three bars to build a jump.

Rewards: 18 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

Build the jump and return to Justin.

justin_mooland

That looks nice. Not too high for you, eh?

Quest completed

justin_mooland

Ok, you are sure the bar is not too high for you? Let’s try it then. From now, you will be able to jump. It’s all about timing and skill. Get your horse up to canter speed and jump just before the bar. (Press “Space”, or “O” on the keyboard to jump your horse)

Objectives: Jump over the obstacle. (Press “Space”, or “O” on the keyboard.)

Rewards: 21 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

Let’s do it already!

justin_mooland

Great work! You flew over that bar! From now on you can jump whenever you want but be careful. Being able to jump anywhere can be dangerous so take care. Be responsible and careful not to hurt yourself or your horse…

Quest completed

______________

See You Later!

justin_mooland

With better experience and gear you will be able to jump even better! Try riding faster and jump over different things so you and your horse learn how to do it. Practice makes perfect!

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

Talk, talk, talk, all we do is talk.

Experience and the right gear is the way to do that. That’s all for now, I will say hello to Steve and then return to Moorland Stable. Take care and see you later!

conrad marsdeen, justin moorland, loretta, old fool, old man jasper, sealed with a kiss, tan, the old legal documents for thomas, the riddle of steel, thomas moorland, to have and not, welcome to the club

So starts Day 2.

Sealed With a Kiss

I don’t know how to change the mind of that crazy old man. I know that my mother truly loved my father. What happened was a tragedy and there was no foul play involved, no matter what others might say. Look, I have these letters – the correspondence between my mother and father from before they got married. It truly shows how profound their love was – I have been thinking about showing these to Jasper but never had the nerve for it. Maybe you could do it?

Here, take the letters and show them to Jasper. They should be able to make some kind of impression on him.

Objectives: Show Jasper the old love letters to prove the true love between Catherine and Thomas.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 65 XP

Take the letters to Jasper, our sad little old man.

Here you come again bringing more papers with you. Well, let me have a look at that – it looks dated… But I do recognize that handwriting. Is it true? Are they actually written by… my daughter?

Quest completed

______________

To Have and Not

When I read these letters from my beloved daughter my heart melts. Oh, how foolish and proud I have been, and it has cost me my grandson. I have the deeds indeed and Thomas Moorland shall have them; that scumbag Mr Kembell is a disgrace to this island. Here is the key to my deposit box in Fort Pinta – inside it you will find the deed. Collect it and return the key to me before you say anything to Thomas Moorland. From now on, you can always pass my land freely.

You will get to Fort Pinta by following the Fort Pinta Approach southwardly.

Objectives: Bring the deed from the deposit box in Fort Pinta to Jasper. Follow the Fort Pinta Approach southwardly.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 65 XP

Follow the road past Jasper’s house, then turn right at the first intersection, and follow that road down to the Fort Pinta crossing. Once across the bridge, continue into the main square of town and around the buildings. The safe deposit is the last building in line.

Return to Jasper once you have acquired the deed.

These are the old legal documents that Thomas needs. This deed will prove he is the legal owner of the Moorland Stables. And my key? Thank you very much.

Quest completed

Somehow I lost notes of the first part of the dialogue for the next quest. I just have the objectives. One of these days, I’ll work out a system, lol!

The Old Legal Documents for Thomas

Well, what do you know? My frosty heart is now warm, after twenty years in the cold…Now young lady, I give you this deed to the Moorland stables; you have certainly earned it. I gather you are off to see Thomas Moorland now…and he will be pleased, no doubt.

Objectives: Bring the legal documents to Thomas.

Rewards: 65 Jorvik Shillings, 125 XP, Budget Pants

Return to Moorland Stables and speak with Thomas.

Holy horses! You have saved the stable from destruction! Finally I can prove I’m the legal owner of the Moorland Stables and all is thanks to your efforts! I will show this to the city council and Mr Kembell will have no choice but to stop the construction of the new buildings. I don’t know how to thank you. I owe you more than I could ever repay you.

Quest completed

______________

Old Fool

Young lady, I have a favour to ask you. If you would honour an old man, take these old letters to Justin and this amulet that belonged to his mother. Tell him what you have done and that I want to see my young grandchild as soon as possible. It is not much but a small attempt to repair twenty years of spite, and I guess an old fool’s way of saying he is sorry.

Objectives: Bring the letter and amulet to Justin Moorland.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 100 XP, Fine T-shirt

So do an old man proud and take the letters to Justin!

Oh, gosh! You have no idea how happy this makes me, Rita. This feud that’s been going on for far too long has finally come to an end. And it’s thanks to you alone. You will always be a very special friend to the Moorland Stables.

Quest completed

______________

Welcome to the Club

You have done an amazing work around here and for the stable. I never thought we were going to accept you as a member of our club, Rita, but I must admit that you are really good and deserve it.

Objectives: Talk to Tan at the Moorland Stables paddock.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 150 XP, Bobcat Girls Club Jacket

One of us, one of us, one of us….

Welcome to the club – here’s a Bobcat Girls Jacket!

Quest completed

______________

The Riddle of Steel

Forging metal on my anvil into the finest horseshoes is what I do. As a druid and member of Keepers of Aideen, I strive to protect this land from exploitation. When I’m now going to ask you for some precious Jorvik steel, I therefore want to emphasize that I will not use it without the great care and responsibility. I thank this island every day for the valuable gifts it brings us islanders.

Shoes made out of Jorvik steel could make your horse fly across these acres. In the Demascus Mine to the west of here people used to mine the steel in ancient days.

Take this pick and bring me five lumps of steel. You will greatly be rewarded.

Objectives: Find five lumps of Jorvik Steel and bring them to Conrad.

Rewards: 45 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

Reputation: 15 with Keepers of Aideen

I just want to point out that steel is technically an alloy of many different metals and cannot be mined directly from the earth, so maybe it just goes to show how magical this steel really is!

The mine is west, behind the smithy, and can be reached by the Demascus Mine road, which splits off from the west most road, right before the pole bending track.

Return to Conrad when you have mined all of the steel.

Ah! The purity of this metal is a dream come true. Let me start working on shoes for your fine steed. They will carry you safely and swiftly. This may take some time, so don’t forget to return here later and see if I’m done.

Quest completed

Return to Conrad tomorrow.

The game personalizes the text with your name, and so it will be different for you, but for the sake of continuity I will just insert my own name as it appears to me.

______________

The first character you meet is Justin Moorland.

A New Friend

Hi, you must be Rita. I’m Justin, pleased to meet you and welcome to Moorland Stables! My father, Thomas, and I these stables. Aren’t they fantastic?

Right now things are a bit hectic, a nasty boss from the big corporation G.E.D, Mr Kembell, is doing everything he can evict us and tear down the stable to be able to build condos here. We’re still trying to figure out what we can do to stop him, but he’s more slippery than an eel.

But forget that, you’re new here and I’m not trying to spoil your summer!

Over there is Summerblaze who will be your horse this summer. Why don’t you go for a short ride and get to know each other?

Go talk with May outside the stable in the other courtyard when you are finished. I think she knows where Jenna, the stable girl is.

Objectives: Bring your horse to the stable.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 50 XP

Get on your horse and follow the green dot out to the stable, through the tunnel into the next part of the Moorland Stables area.

May is a happy-go-lucky girl who always has a shovel and a sunny attitude.

Hi, I’m May, nice to meet you Rita. You know, I came here for the first time five years ago and have visited Moorland Stables every summer since then. It’s the best place to spend your vacation! Right now I’m doing some work here in the stable to earn some extra Jorvik shillings to spend. Come back here later and I’ll have some work for you to do if you want.

Oh, another thing. You can always return to the stable if you get lost. Just make a Pick Up Call and someone will come and get you wherever you are and return you here in the blink of an eye!

Quest completed

______________

Speak With The Stable Girl

Well, I don’t think there’s anything more for you to see here right now. You should go and speak to Jenna, the stable girl over there, to learn more about how things work here at Moorland Stables. Just turn south and you will see her.

Objectives: Talk to Jenna.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Again follow the green dot and speak with Jenna.

Hi Rita, there you are! I’ve been waiting for you.

Quest completed

______________

Ride the Cavaletti

Well, well, I can tell that you and Summerblaze make a good team. It seems like you have known each other for all your lives. You’re going to accomplish amazing things, mark my word!

Normally it’s Mr Moorland who introduces new visitors to the stables but he’s a very busy man at the moment so I’m filling in. I don’t know if you’ve heard but there’s this awful company called G.E.D. that wants to tear this place down and build houses on the grounds. Don’t disturb Mr Moorland unless you have to, he’s working really hard to find a way to stop that slimy Mr Kembell.

But enough about that! Even though I’m normally handling the stable duties I think I can tell you a thing or two about riding as well. Now, before I let you outside the gates you have to show me that you can ride safely. Behind me you’ll find a small track with poles laid out on the ground. This is called a Cavaletti and should be enough to prove that you know the basics of riding. Complete the track and return to me.

Objectives: Complete the Cavaletti track in the yard to the east.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

Right now, you can’t gallop, so you only have to canter through the course, which is also the first race you will compete in in the game. Don’t let the race title fool you ‘Walk the Cavaletti,’ you should actually canter, not walk, or you won’t make it through the checkpoints in time. When you’ve completed the race, return to Jenna.

That was great! Good job on completing the Cavaletti. You and Summerblaze really worked as a team, keep it up. Now I think you’re ready for some more serious riding. And, as I promised, you are now allowed to gallop and go outside the Moorland Stables.

Quest completed

______________

Meeting the Bobcats

Well Rita, I think you need something a bit more challenging to do, the Cavaletti was no match for you. Outside the west stable gate is the Bobcat Girls riding club’s paddock. Go there and talk to Loretta, she’s one of their best riders and always friendly and helpful to newcomers. Ask her if she can show you how real competitions work around here and maybe she will even let you join the Bobcat Girls. They’re a great riding club.

Objectives: Find Loretta at the small paddock.

Rewards: 0 Jorvik Shillings, 25, XP

Follow the green dot out of the stable to the north, and directly outside the gate you’ll find Loretta on her big white horse.

What? Yes, I’m Loretta, and who are you? Not that I care… Rita? That’s your name? Really. Well, it sounds very… very pretty and intelligent. Oh my… Rita. I bet your horse’s name is just as lame. I bet it’s like… Puffyheart or something. Summerblaze? Ha! I’m psychic!

So what are you doing here, anyway? Jenna told you I was going to teach you how to compete? Great. You know what, actually I’m kind of bored right now, so why not. You and Puffyheart should try racing some in the paddock. Who knows, maybe it’ll make me smile. At your fantaaaastically faaaaast speed. I can already tell that you’ll never make into the club.

Quest completed

______________

I Will Show Them

You’re still here? I thought I told you that you could try out our paddock already. What is it you don’t understand? Come on already! Get to the starting line!

I forgot to note the objectives and rewards of this one, sorry!

Here’s the second race you’ll do in Moorland, ‘I Will Show Them’ race. It’s quick and simple, and it doesn’t really impress Loretta. Though, not much does, except Justin Moorland.

Return to Loretta when you’ve completed the race.

Ok, that wasn’t too bad for a beginner. I’ll admit that I wasn’t super good at controlling my horse when I first came here, either. All that will change when you get more experienced and acquire better equipment. You’ll never be a Bobcat Girl however, that’s for sure.

Quest completed

The next character you’ll meet is another Bobcat Girl, Tan. She is standing next to Loretta outside of Moorland Stables.

The Moorland Stables Riding Track

Hi, I’m Tan. Loretta showed you how to race in the paddock, but now I’ll show you how the Bobcat Girls like to ride for real. This might be tough for a newcomer like you but take it slow if you have to, you’re not a pro rider like us. I don’t think you’ll ever be able to beat our high scores, you don’t look like you have what it takes, but you’re welcome to try. Watch out for the G.E.D. construction site, horses are scared of construction machines so don’t get too close.

Objectives: Complete the race as fast as you can.

Rewards: 0 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

So begins the first daily race that you can do in the game. And believe me when I tell you the Bobcat Girls are full of it when they say this is the hardest race in the game. They get harder, and longer.

Complete the quick race and return to Tan.

Hmm… Ok. That wasn’t amazing but you did well. You are still far from our real high scores, but that’s only natural. You see, if that felt difficult or slow or whatever, just wait until you and Summerblaze have spent some more time on the riding tracks around here – Summerbalze will get much faster. It will feel like another horse! Not to get your hopes up – the Bobcat Girls can’t be beaten. If you want to try anyway, you can, but only once a day. We don’t want newcomers like you messing up our track for nothing!

Quest completed

______________

Returning to Justin

Hi Rita, Justin is looking for you. He probably just needs some newcomer to muck out the stables. You’ll find him in the courtyard behind the stable. Don’t let him wait!

Just a minute! One more thing: keep away from Justin. He’s mine and nobody will ever come between us. Not that there’s any chance that he would ever be interested in… somebody like you.

Objectives: Find Justin Moorland in the stable courtyard.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP, Novice Riding Jacket

Self explanatory. Heed Loretta’s threat.

Go talk to Justin in the courtyard.

Rita! There you are. I was looking for you.

Quest completed

______________

Collect The Tools

It’s nice to see you again. I hope everyone has been nice you here. Don’t mind Loretta, she can be a bit harsh sometimes but she’s nice once you get to know her, even if it’s hard to believe.

Anyway, I wanted to talk to you about how taking care of your horse works. Let’s start with getting all the tools that we need. I want you to bring me a brush for grooming, a hoof scraper for scraping hooves, some hay for food, and a bucket of water for Summerblaze to drink. Bring all this to me and I’ll show you how to use it.

Objectives: Find a brush, a hoof pick, a water bucket and some hay and bring the tools to Justin.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 45 XP

This is how picking up items works in the game. There will be an orange highlight on your map where the item is located. In the game world, the item will also have an orange sparkle floating around it. Simply walk up to it and click to pick it up.

When you have picked up all of the tools, return to Justin.

Yes, those are the tools you will need. Good job!

Quest completed

______________

Get Started With Your Duties

Now let’s get to it. Here’s what you do now. Get off your horse. Open your inventory and use the tools on Summerblaze, one at a time. Once you’ve done this your horse will feel better and become happier. If you do this every day your horse will soon be so happy that you will actually notice that he runs faster. But if you neglect to take care of Summerblaze, he will soon become sad and perform worse than he usually does. But a responsible rider would never let that happen, that is not how we do things at Moorland Stables!

Objectives: Take care of Summerblaze. Brush him and scrape his hooves. Give him food and water. You must be unmounted when you do this.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP, Brush, Hoof Pick, Hay, Water Bucket

This also begins how you will use items from your inventory in the game. Click and drag an item onto your horse. If you can use it, it will be outlined in green; if not, it will be outlined in blue and pop back into your inventory. If this happens you may be too far away from your horse. Simply move closer. This applies to any item that can be used in the game. Taking care of your horse, though, requires you be within a stable. You will know you are in an area you can take of your horse when there is the little green circle swirling around your name in the upper left corner.

Use all of the items on your horse, then talk to Justin.

Good job, Rita! Listen, we always need a hand with our horses here at Moorland Stables and I know now that I can trust you with our animals. Check the notice board by the stable and see what chores there are to be done. It’s updated every day so come back often!

Quest completed

______________

A Word With Thomas

Oh, I almost forgot. I just got word from my father, Thomas, that he wants to see you. I’ve told him about the great job you are doing around here and I think that got his attention. He wants to ask you something really important, he wouldn’t tell me what it was but I could see it in his eyes that it was something special.

My father is usually working in the west part of the stable courtyard.

Objectives: Speak with Thomas Moorland, the owner of Moorland Stables.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Follow the green dot out by where you met Jenna. Thomas is nearby.

Thank you for coming so fast, Rita. The situation with Mr Kembell from G.E.D. is getting out of hand and I need your help.

Quest completed

______________

Get Them Out By Friday

This is troubling… That slimy vulture Mr Kembell has plans to evict us all and raze Moorland Stables to the ground. I just got word that he has almost convinced the city council, and I am running out of time to stop him. Even as we speak, his despicable pack of land surveyors are setting up their equipment so they can make a detailed demolition map and present to the city hall. I know that I have the legal rights to this land but I need more time to get the documents in order.

Will you help me save Moorland Stables, Rita? We need to delay Mr Kembell’s land surveyors to win some time. All you need to do is switch off their GPS equipment. Right now they are setting it up in the forest just north of Moorland Stable.

Objectives: Switch off the GPS equipment without the G.E.D. men seeing you.

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 120 XP

Follow the orange highlight on your map outside the stable walls. Click to switch off each GPS device but make sure the workers don’t see you!

It’s pretty easy, just make sure they’re not directly in front of you when you click the device. You can stand next to the device, put on your innocent face, and wait for them to walk past. Then click the device and run like hell!

Return to Thomas when you’re finished.

Splendid, good work there. I truly appreciate it. That will delay them for a while. Now I’ve got a little time to at least build my case against Mr  Kembell and the city council.

Quest completed

______________

Mission: Lights Out!

What am I going to do, Rita? Mr Kembell is really putting pressure on me about those legal documents… I’m sure I could stop him if I got just a little more time. Hmm… Maybe a little harmless sabotage on the construction site would distract him for  a while. Haha! If he wants to play rough I’ll show him that he has met his match!

Let’s see. There’s a power central at one of the power line poles, just where the road makes a turn to the construction site. There should be a switch on it turning off the power line that supports the construction site with electricity. You would even turn off the lights to that ugly, stupid advertising board as a bonus. That should buy us some valuable time.

I forgot to note the objectives and rewards of this one, sorry!

Follow the orange highlight out of the stable walls and up the road past where you turned off the GPS equipment. The light post is on the righthand side of the road.

Return to Thomas when you’ve turned off the lights.

Ha ha, that’s priceless. I think I could hear that dimwit screaming at his workers all the way here. Now I have a little more time, just what I needed. And, we don’t have to see that hideous advertising board anymore!

Quest completed

The Deed of the Land

I think I know how to stop Mr Kembell. All I need is some way to prove my rights to this land. There’s a deed to the Moorland Stables which was given to my father over 50 years ago by the Baroness Silverglade – yes, she is the one residing in the castle up there.

I have looked everywhere in the office archives but I can’t find the documents anywhere. I have an idea about who could though. Our old accountant, Mrs Holdsworth, knows all about our business and is sure to know where the documents are. She retired last year and now spends her days taking care of an orchard just outside the stables. Go see her; she should be able to find the documents.

You’ll find her east of the Moorland Stables.

Objectives: Find Mrs Holdsworth east of Moorland Stables.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 65 XP

Mrs Holdsworth is pretty easy to find. Go out the gate in the courtyard and take an immediate right and run around the wall of the stable. You’ll find her in a cute little cottage overlooking the beach.

Well hello there dear, what can I do for you?

Papers of the Past

Hmm… Let me think. I believe there was a deed of ownership, but it got lost some years ago. When Thomas Moorland’s wife Catherine died in childbed Thomas lost all interest in papers and documents and just wanted to spend time with his horses. All paperwork was put in a chest and sent over to Catherine’s father and there’s a great chance that the deed was in that chest. Yes – her father is Jasper Holbrook and the child that was born is Justin Moorland. Jasper blames Thomas for Catherine’s death and they haven’t spoken in twenty years. It’s a tragedy that this feud has been going on for so long, but if anyone has the deed it would be Old Man Jasper. It won’t be easy convincing him to part with it, though.

You’ll find Old Man Jasper guarding his land at the north-eastern fields. Good luck, dear!

Objectives: Find Old Man Jasper by the northeast wall; follow the road to the east to Fort Pinta.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 65 XP

Follow the east most road north to find Jasper at the top of the hill.

Well you found me! And now you can leave me again!

Old Man Jasper

Bah! What do I care if Moorland Stables is razed to the ground. That wretched place was the end of my daughter, and I curse the day my sweet Catherine and that snake Thomas met. I have hated the Moorlands for the better part of the last twenty years but if you think you can change that you’re welcome to drop by again.

Now be off my land!

Objectives: Find a way to weaken Jasper’s resolve. Maybe Justin can be helpful.

Rewards: 5 Jorvik Shillings, 65 XP

Looks like Jasper isn’t gonna budge. Return to Moorland Stable and talk to Justin.

Hey Rita! Have you been to see my grandfather? That crazy old man hates us and nothing would please him more than to see our stable razed to the ground.

Quest completed

I must say I don’t think I’ve ever heard the word ‘razed’ more times in a single sitting than I’ve ever heard it used in all my life combined.

By the way, if you didn’t know, ‘razed’ means to destroy, bulldoze, crush flat.

Return to Justin tomorrow.

May has something to tell you about consumerism.

A New Shopper in Town

How are things going, Rita? Have you visited the cool shops yet? What?! You haven’t? You must see them and check out all the awesome stuff they sell. Go visit the Gear shop, the Clothes shop and the Star shop which have the best clothes and gear you can find here at Moorland, but you need very good Reputation to shop in the Star shop.

Objectives: Go visit the three shops in the Moorland stable area.

Rewards: 12 Jorvik Shillings, 35 XP

A little street cred goes a long way with the Star shop folks.

Just walk up to the shopkeeper and if you’re close enough your cursor will turn into a little paper shopping bag when you hover over them. Click on them and the shop box will open up with all of the items currently for sale in the shop.

You don’t have to buy anything for this quest, just click on each shopkeeper to ‘visit’ their shop, then return to May when you’re finished.

That was cool, right? Well keep working on your Moorland Reputation and soon you will be able to buy very good gear and clothes. Don’t forget there are lots of other shops around in Silverglade as well.

Quest completed

Tan looks very concerned. You should go talk to her.

What Happened to Loretta?

Rita! Have you seen Loretta? No? She took a ride on the Wild Bobcat Track but never returned. I’m worried that something has happened to her but I can’t leave the paddock here, all the other Bobcats are out searching for her and I need to stay here if someone gets back with news. I know you might not like Loretta much but I really need you to help out searching for her. Please ride to the cliffs west of here and look for her! Hurry Rita!

Objectives: Find Loretta. Ride along the road to the west and ask if someone has seen her.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Take the west most road to the north. You won’t get very far before you’re stopped.

Stop! This road has been declared unsafe! You can’t walk, ride, or drive any farther. There was a huge rockslide a little while ago and large rocks have blocked the road completely. If I have seen a girl on a horse? No, but I hope for her sake that she’s not lying under the pile of boulders over there, in that case she’ll be flat as a pancake…

Mm.. Pancakes…

Huh, are you still here?

Quest completed

______________

Get a Bulldozer Over Here!

No, I can’t let you pass. Even if your friend is in danger the road must be cleared before I let you pass, those are the orders I have. So, I won’t leave this place until Mr Kembell tells me to, you don’t know what he’d do to me if he found out that I had disobeyed his orders.

Hrmpf… If it’s that important, why don’t you  go over to the construction site northeast of here and ask Mr Kembell to send the bulldozer… You’ll find Mr Kembell on the construction site, close to that beautiful, large advertising board. Bah, I don’t have time with this drivel. I’m hungry and no one’s coming to let me have my lunch! Off you go to the construction site!

Objectives: Go to the construction site in north Moorland and ask Mr Kembell to send a bulldozer.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 25 XP

Go back up the road you took to turn off the power to the advertising board. Go past the pole and take an immediate right. You’ll be on the construction site and Mr Kembell is towards the back, next to the bulldozer.

Ah! What have we here? A cute little stable girl dares to come all the way up here? What do you want then…? Sabotage my powerful machines in a pathetic attempt to save your little pile of boards that you call a stable? Don’t worry little girl, we will tear the stable down and build new houses all over the land that we’ll sell for fantastic amounts of money – rather excellent, isn’t it? I’ll be rich and the Moorlands won’t get a dime. I even get to watch them cry as I burn the stables down to the ground!

Oh, you’re not here to cause trouble? Really? You really want me to lend you a bulldozer? You’re funny, little girl. Ha ha ha!

Quest completed

And yes, he really is always this melodramatic.

Unpleasant Task

So you want me to send a bulldozer to clear the western road in order to rescue a friend? I really should ask you for an outrageous amount of money but you don’t look like you have it. I guess I was going to have that road cleared anyway. I’m waiting for the wrecking crew to come, and this rockslide will forces them to take a detour. But if you want my help you have to do something for me first, I never give anything away for free. You see all these ugly trees around here? They must be cut down to make room for our machines and the new buildings. Take this red marking tap and mark four trees that we will chop down. Do that and I promise I’ll send the bulldozer to clear the road.

Objectives: Mark four trees with the red tape; otherwise Mr Kembell won’t help you with the bulldozer.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 100 XP

The red tape has been deposited into your inventory. Click and drag it over the tree when you’re near it, to mark the tree.

Return to Mr Kembell when you’re done.

Good girl. Maybe you should think about working for us here at the G.E.D.? We’re always looking for people willing to destroy and exploit nature. Oh, my promise? I don’t remember any promise… Ha ha ha! Shows you not to trust anyone. Anyway, I had already given the order to send the bulldozer, so one could say you did this all for nothing! See, here it goes!

Quest completed

______________

Give Tan an Update!

Off with you girlie. The bulldozer is on its way. Better to stay away while it works, so you can go and update your friends about the situation or whatever, I don’t care. Now, I must keep planning the demolition of your pathetic little stable… And don’t forget you helped me do it! Ha ha ha!

Objectives: Ride to Tan and update her about what is happening.

Rewards: 10 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

Damn you Mr Kembell. Fool me once, shame on me…

Also, how dare you call me ‘girlie.’ Only Steve has a right to call me that!

Rita, do you have any news about Loretta? A bulldozer is on its way to clear the rockslide, that’s good. You shouldn’t have helped the G.E.D. but that Mr Kembell is a real dirt bag, he tricked you real good. Think about it next time though, you can’t trust G.E.D. any longer than your nose.

Quest completed

Search Mission Continued

The bulldozer should have cleared the road by now. Ride back there and look for Loretta. Oh, I hope she’s alright… Hurry Rita, hurry!

Objectives: Take the road to the west and find Loretta.

Rewards: 15 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

Ride up the west most road again and you should be able to make it to the top of the hill this time. Watch out for the boulders!

What are you doing here? Are you lost or something? Oh, Tan sent you… that was kind of her… of you. Maybe you’re ok after all. Listen, I’m sorry if I’ve been kind of hard on you. You seem ok. Thanks for the help Rita.

A Friendly Race

Hmm, we need to go back to the stables I guess. This is boring. Let’s compete and see who gets back to the Moorland Stables first! From here and back to Tan at the paddock! Last one there is a loser. And that will be you! Let’s go!

I forgot to note the objectives and rewards for this one, sorry!

Race Loretta back to the stable. Don’t try to beat her because you won’t.

I told you I was going to win! I am the best! I am the greatest rider in the world! You will never beat me! Never! Hooray for me!

Quest completed

Alright miss snooty patooty. I heard ya the first time…

The Wild Bobcat Track

You really are improving, Rita. I think you are ready for a real challenge. Because you helped us with Loretta I’ll let you ride on the Bobcat Girls’ finest race track, the Wild Bobacat Track. It’s hard and dangerous so take it easy. Remember, you’re not a Bobacat Girl, so don’t feel bad if you don’t beat our high scores. I mean, no one can. There’s no shame in losing to the Bobcat Girls, just accept that when we’re around you’re always second best.

Objectives: Complete the Wild Bobcat Track

Rewards: 20 Jorvik Shillings, 210 XP

Watch out on this one as there are obstacles in your path. Even if you are a Star Rider, you still can’t jump at this point yet.

That was pretty good. If you’re up to it you can compete in this race again. Just speak to me again and I’ll let you have another try. Let me tell you something about racing that maybe you didn’t know, every time you compete in a race and perform well you earn reputation. Like if you do well on this track, we Bobcat Girls will see that you have skill. I’m not promising anything, but if you earn enough reputation with us maybe, just maybe, you could become a member of our club.

Quest completed

Return to Loretta tomorrow.

And now it’s off to meet probably one of my favorite characters in the game, Conrad Marsdeen.

His smithy is on the trail between the west and east roads, the Moorland Stable race goes right past it.

Tools of the Trade

Well, hello there. Greetings to you and to your fine steed. You look young and strong; maybe you could help me with a small task? Just the other day my old assistant Patrick was bringing me a shipment of the finest tools from Jorvik Stables. He was almost here when one of those dastardly Bobcat Girls came racing down the Demascus Mine road and almost rode him down! He got so scared that he ran all the way here but dropped all the tools along the way. He is not a brave man and now refuses to go back out there, so my new tools are just lying out there somewhere, rusting away. I don’t have the time to go look for them myself but maybe you could do it for me? I would be forever in your gratitude, young lady.

The shipment contained a hammer, a clincher and a shiny mine pick of the finest Jorvik steel.

Objectives: Find Conrad’s missing tools: Hammer, Clincher and Mining Pick. Look along the Demascus Mine Road.

Rewards: 45 Jorvik Shillings, 75 XP

Reputation: 15 with Keepers of Aideen

The tools really aren’t along the Demascus Mine road but it’s a good place to start. Follow the orange highlights on your map. They aren’t hard to find.

Return to Conrad when you find all of the tools.

Ha! You are an angel, Rita. This is indeed a great day. I am so happy that you were able to find all my tools.

Quest completed

Thus completes the quests for Day 1. There sure were a lot of them, but you got to meet the majority of the people in Moorland and learned a lot about the basic controls of the game. Return in twenty-four hours real time to continue with your quests!
