Ah! My dear Rita! How wonderful that you’ve come to see us! You’re like a lovely little spring flower; it always cheers us up so much when you stop by. If you’re looking for something to do, maybe you could help me with a little errand? Ooh, wonderful Rita, that’s really nice of you!

It’s such a shame… Our lovely horses are feeling a little seasick after our journey here on the barge. They usually deal quite well with being at sea, but this time it seems to have been a bit too much for them. Thinking about it, our old friend Carin at Goldenleaf Stables could probably help us out. I seem to remember something happening last time they were seasick, but hey, my memory isn’t what it used to be, dear Rita. Hurry along to Carin and be sure to say hello to her from me!

Objectives: Ask Carin to help the horses get rid of their seasickness.

An Herbal Remedy Against Seasickness

Sooo… Ferdinand and Eddie’s horses are seasick again. Tsk, don’t they remember what happened last time? Ah well, of course I’ll help again, but Ferdinand really should know better by now!

The best thing for their seasickness is to give them fresh beach flowers to munch on, it usually makes the worst of the seasickness subside. These beach flowers grow all around the island, so take a look around and pick as many as you need then come back to me.

Rita, you must only pick green beach flowers. It’s important not to pick the red ones because they’re a protected species as you maybe know. Only green. No red. Understood? Great!

Off you go now!

Objectives: Gather green beach flowers and return to Carin. Don’t pick red ones, they’re a protected species!

Ride out on the beach surrounding the stable, and pick only the green flowers. If you pick a red flower, you will fail the quest and have to start over.

Oh, jumping jellyfish! Rita, I can’t believe it’s happened again! All the horses are loose!

Good grief, once they’d eaten up all their beach flowers, they really seemed to get much better. Seems as though they’re feeling a little bit too perky. The second I had my back turned, they just made a break for it This happens every time we come to Golden Hills Valley. I’m sure they were only play-acting when they looked so seasick; they knew they’d get some tasty beach flowers from me to fix them up so perhaps they were just planning to run away all along. 

Look, they’re dashing around here… You see them, but they don’t seem to be in a hurry to come back.

Could you round them up for us, Rita? It’s just a case of finding them; they’ll come right back afterwards. Sometimes their frolicking drives me crazy, but if these zesty little moments never happened then everything would get rather boring, don’t you think?

Scuba Tank on the Loose

Aha Rita! Now I have an idea!

My old scuba tank that I used for underwater archaeology was built specifically to be impact resistant and good under pressure. I’m sure that would be good enough to hold a few infernal Shadow Seekers without any trouble at all.

Unfortunately, it isn’t here.

I loaned out my tank to Mr K Trout who was going to try cod fishing underwater. Speak with him and tell him you need to borrow it. He has had plenty of time to get his own scuba gear by now if he has decided to continue his underwater fishing.

Scuba Tank Rocket

It is actually a little embarrassing, Rita. I thought this diving thing was easy… But when I went to fill the tank with air, I must have done something wrong. I think I might have put too much air in it… Because suddenly the valve flew off and the tank took off like a rocket, straight up into the air.

I didn’t see where it went but it must have landed somewhere in the village. How will you find it?

I’m sure it made quite a hole in whatever it might have landed on when it came down again. If you ride up somewhere high, you might be able to see where it landed?

Objectives: Get up as high as you can in the village and look if you can see where the scuba tank might have landed.

The lighthouse is sufficiently high enough.

Enter the front door to look from the top of the lighthouse. The scuba tank crashed through the porch roof of the house to the far left of the screen. When you get down from the lighthouse view, with the lighthouse behind you, go immediately to your left and you will find the scuba tank on the ground of the first house on the right. If you go around the corner of the path, you have gone too far.

When you have the scuba tank, return to Mr Trout.

Valve Fishing

The valve? You need that too? Well… I don’t really know where it is either…

You know when the scuba tank took off like a rocket, I was terrified and I dove out of the way… And I think I must have dropped the valve out in the water here. But you know what? I have an idea…

If you borrow my magnetic fishing lure, that I invented, for when I’m fishing for Jorvik Iron Herring, you might be able to find it. I’m sure it is on the bottom somewhere close by so it shouldn’t be impossible.

The Legend of The Golden Apple

This is what I have discovered:

The legend says there is a type of Golden Apple that has magical properties that would affect an evil witch. Special trees produce these apples and they only grow one apple each year. Of course while the legend says that the apple would turn a cruel witch kind again, it is also a powerful weapon against the witches who have been trying to destroy the trees for years. At any rate, even if we get it… How are we going to get her to eat it?

Aha. There is another story that says the more cruel that a witch gets, the harder it is for her to resist the chance to eat the Golden Apple when it is offered to her. Something about being truly cruel builds an irresistible appetite for the apple. Some think that the apple merely releases the witch’s inner desire to do good after years of evil work. A cruel witch will continue to do evil works for years and will not wish to be freed but they also can’t withstand the Golden Apple when it is offered by a pure soul with good intentions.

Where Do We Find the Golden Apples?

Good question. All the known Golden Apple trees have been destroyed by witches. But I think we might know where on is that may have survived.

Aha, you picked a golden apple in Applegrove recently? I’m sorry, but I don’t think that is the right kind of apple. These are golden apples and there are Golden Apples… There are different kinds.

But listen here! Every year there is a traditional competition around Scarecrow Cliffs in Goldenhills Valley. The competition is to race out and pick the first yearly apple from the old tree on Scarecrow Hill and bring it back to the finish.

A few years back Alex took part in the race under some strange circumstances. Since that race the whole area has been closed and the race hasn’t been run again. I think we should speak with Alex about this.

Klaus Tells You About Scarecrow Hill

Why did I lock the gate and throw away the key? Well… Scarecrow Hill used to be a safe and beautiful place and we used to have a fantastic race there. But a few years ago, the scarecrows came to life… Which was a bit more than frightening. So the scarecrows wouldn’t get out, I locked the door with a different key so nobody could get in… And threw away the key to make sue it would stay shut. It was perhaps a little stupid now that I think about it but I was afraid and perhaps wasn’t thinking very clearly at the time.

Hmmm… You think it might have been my wife Pi who brought the scarecrows to life to prevent people from getting to the magic apple? Interesting idea… I hadn’t thought of that.

It is powerful magic that has brought the scarecrows to life and it seems that they are still under control of their maker. I’m certain it is Pi who has created them to prevent people from getting anywhere near the Golden Apple… The apple we hope is growing on the windblown top of Scarecrow Hill’s highest point.

I know that with powerful magic, the spell controlling the scarecrows could be broken… But we haven’t seen power like that since we had a fragment of Aideen’s Light a long time ago. I should tell you about that.

Is There a Fragment in Jarl’s Crypt?

They say that Jon Jarl was buried with a fragment of the light in his crypt. It is one of the few stories I know about the light that might actually be true. Jon Jarl was the first to come to the island a long time ago, some time in the twelfth century, and it was him that named the island Jorvik.

The problem is Jarl’s Crypt is sealed and I have no idea how we can open it. I know Rita, you have been there and collected Ghost Ore, but that was just the first chamber you were in. According to the stories, the crypt is made of more rooms… Or at least that is what they say.

But maybe the history books can help you with this. Chat with Linda, you already dropped her off at the library, and see if you can find anything in the history books that might help. Maybe something there will help us open Jarl’s Crypt.

Try Fishing!

Look at that! Another beautiful day! I can just feel it that the fish will be biting today! If you have bought a fishing rod from Mr Loop, then we are ready to get started.

So this is how we do it. Fishing requires patience and a little luck. But first we need a good place to fish and that isn’t that easy. A good fishing place is a secret that fishermen usually don’t share with each other. You need to look everywhere, and it can be hard and  require time and patience. Maybe you have fishing friends who can share their secrets with you? Otherwise you need to look…

I’ll give you some beginner tips. Halfway up the eastern of the two south-running bridges is a pretty good spot. Go there and give it a try. When the float, some people call it a bobber, goes completely under water, click it at just the right time to catch the fish! You’ll need to wait for the right moment and time it just right to catch them.

Catch three roach fish and then come back to me.

Objectives: Use your fishing rod at the fishing spot halfway up the eastern south-running dock. Catch three roach fish for Mr K Trout. Fishing rods are sold by Mr Loop. Click on the fishing float when it goes completely under water to catch the fish!

There are a couple mistakes in the quest dialogue. The fishing spot is actually on the western south-running dock, and you need to catch five fish to complete the quest.

If you have not yet purchased a fishing rod, you can do so from Mr Loop’s shop. Take it to the spot marked by the orange sparkles. Dismount your horse and place your fishing rod on the spot. You will then enter the fishing minigame. When you have caught the required amount of fish, you will automatically exit the fishing minigame. Return to Mr Trout with your catch.

Gone with the Wind

So you are looking for the Mayor’s sea charts… Yes, that makes sense. We did take them when we stole the Key to the City. But when we hid in the Labyrinth Coast there came a strong wind that blew away the sea chart. I’ve seen that the winds are still playing with that chart. I have seen it still blowing round out there when were out smuggling. We haven’t had any luck catching it but maybe you will as you have a horse. It is on the small islands along the Labyrinth Coast. If you catch the charts of course you can do whatever you want with them.

Objectives: Ride to the Labyrinth Coast and catch the three sea charts that are blowing around in the wind. Return them to Klaus.

In Goldenleaf Forest there is a special leaf that is fantastic for making our special prizes with. I have everything else we need but the leaves, so they are the last thing we need… But we need a LOT of them Collect twenty for me if you can.

The forest lies in the deepest valley between the mountain and the Golden Road. Most of the leaves can be found in the western part of the forest and will be lying on the ground or blowing around in the air.

You can take the road into the valley from the east side and head all the way towards the other end of it. There you’ll find the leaves on the ground and blowing in the breeze. Goldenhills Valley is a very special place. It isn’t just a myth that snow spirits and other dangerous creatures sneak around over there during the winters… That is why they lock the gate. For the last few years it has been relatively safe, but we have carefully guarded the area just to be sure.

In the eastern part of the valley, there is a cottage and a crop owned by Justin’s grandfather. That’s right, old Jasper that you met before.

Farther down in the western part of the valley you will find Cape West fishing village… There is a very nice barn there for your horse around there. I’ve never been there myself, but I’m sure you will find some nice friends to get into some new trouble with there.

Things to Do at the Pumpkin Farm

Broken Sprinklers

Darn it! The sprinkler system isn’t working. I strongly suspect it is because there are so many holes in the hoses as they have been unused for so many years. With so any holes no water is making it to the actual sprinklers.

Take this waterproofing tape and fix the hoses and we’ll see if that gets the sprinklers going.

Check the Horse Jumps

Ghost Dust

As I’m sure you know, we use pumpkins for the big annual Halloween festival. People carve scary and fun faces into the pumpkins, put lights in them, and have them as decorations. According to tradition, the pumpkins keep evil spirits away from your home.

I have found a way to make them more… How should I put it… Ghost-like? As the pumpkins are growing, I fertilize them with ghost dust!

Ghost dust is left behind in the glittering trails the snow spirits leave as they pass through here in the winter. Ghost dust is spread all over the grasslands here in Goldenhills Valley, so it’s pretty easy to find.

Find a bunch of ghost dust and spread it over the pumpkins. Come back to me when you are done.

Objectives: Look for small piles of ghost dust in the grasslands around Jasper’s pumpkin farm. When you have found four piles, use them on the pumpkins in the pumpkin field, then return to Jasper.

The ghost dust can be found in the gully across the road from the farm, as well as up on the hill to the north of the farm.

Collect four piles of it, put it on the marked pumpkins in the field, then return to Jasper.

The Riding Woodsman

Aha, the old jumps should be repairable, but we will be needing more wood. Maybe you have seen the four old trees that have died around the house? Take my saw that is on the porch steps and cut down the four dead trees. Then you can pull them back here with your strong horse.

Objectives: Take Jasper’s saw that is on the porch steps. Use the saw to cut down the four dead trees around the house. Bring the logs back to Jasper.

Rewards: 65 Jorvik Shillings, 30 XP

You have to be dismounted to use the saw. Once the tree is felled, click on it to pick up the log, and it will be placed on the back of your horse. When you have collected the logs from the four trees, return to Jasper.

Fix the Old Horse Jumps

Where are the Wolves?

There are things happening here Rita! I have found out that there is a pack of wolves that are aggressive with people in the area north of Eastglade. The wolves are normally not dangerous to people, but if there is a pack of them, you can be sure they will be a little more brave and perhaps scare people away if people intrude on their territory.

Can you ride up to Shadowy Hills just northwest of here? You only need to follow the road north towards the Norther Gate.

See if you can find any wolves and report back your findings to me please.

I have lots of dog treats! People give Techno so many treats that I have to take most of them away so that he doesn’t get a stomach ache! Here is a big bag that should definitely be enough for a whole pack of wolves.

Give one to a wolf that doesn’t seem too angry and see how it reacts, I think it will probably work quite well. If not we can hope that Summerblaze can ride away quickly…

The Mystery of the Southern Iron Gate

You wonder why the gate stayed locked, even after the winter was over? I also wondered that myself. I’ve seen all the riders gathered outside the gate who wanted to ride into Goldenhills Valley. There were also a lot of transports that had to turn back. What a mess that was.

But I know who you should ask about it… And that would be Mayor Klaus in Cape West Fishing Village. Klaus is responsible for the Key to the City that opens the gate. You’ll find your way to him by riding as far west as possible. Follow the Golden Road, but don’t ride into Goldenleaf Forest. It is tough to find a way out of the west end of the forest.

Objectives: Follow the Golden Road west to Cape West Fishing Village and find Mayor Klaus.

Rewards: 25 Jorvik Shillings, 60 XP

Following the road into the village, cross the big bridge and go straight up the stairs into the center of the village. You will find Klaus standing there.

Klaus’s Explanation

So this is what happened. In the winter I always store the Key to the City in an iron-bound chest that I keep under my bed. As you know we keep the gate locked n the wintertime to keep the winter spirits out of Silverglade so they don’t scare anyone down there. They are actually quite dangerous and frightening. Every spring we unlock the gate again… But this year… The key was GONE!

One day I suddenly noticed that the chest was missing, and had been stolen! The only clue I could find was shoe prints the thief left behind in their hurry. The really strange thing about it was there were only shoe prints from a left shoe. No right foot prints at all! Very strange.

Along the Missing Tracks

We found the same footprint from a left shoe along the beach south of the bridge to the mainland. We tried to follow the prints to look for more clues in the Labyrinth Shore but we didn’t find any and the prints ended at the edge of the sand. It is easy to get lost there just so you know, so it is possible we missed something.

If you can, it would be great if you could have a look and see if you find anything… But I’m worried it is pointless.

Objectives: Look for the clues along the southern beach and in the Labyrinth Shore, right beside the bridge to the mainland. If you find anything, tell Mayor Klaus.

Take the bridge out of the village, and turn to the right to go down onto the beach. The footprints are down on that beach. Follow them along the beach and into the trail through the water. When you have found a clue, return to Mayor Klaus.

Is there a stables here on the coast? Of course there is. I’m sure you have noticed that Jorvik is full of stables and we are not so uncivilized as to not have one of our own. Goldenleaf Stables is a very, very old stables that was founded a long time ago and used to breed and raise warhorses for the old Jorvik Navy. It is hard to believe but Cape West Fishing Village used to be a powerful fort that guarded the route and protected trade ships from pirates and other enemies.

Things are a little different nowadays. We are a lot more peaceful and love to have visitors and host travelers. We haven’t had many visitors this spring after the long winter so all news of the world outside is very welcome…

It is good to know that our stables and the famous Jorvik stables farther south are the farthest west stables on Jorvik.
